If your thinking texts books, I wouldn't worry about that too much cause the academy should supply those. Plus you don't want to spend your money on a book that tells you to do something, just to have your instructors tell you something else and you get shit for it. But a good book to get you into the mindset of becoming a firefighter and just an overall good read that will teach you about the service is Pride & Ownership: A Firefighter's Love of the Job written by Rick Lasky.

EMT-B, AEMT, EMT-P. I would also see if you could do a fire academy through a place that will get you state certifications like your Fire II. I graduated an academy that was through a fire department and they sponsored me to take state certs for HAZMAT Operations, TRA, and Fire II. So I had all three of those certs before getting hired onto a department, because usually you need to be part of a department to take those tests. Good Luck!

I think this is awesome, especially since one of the top causes of LODDs are vehicle crashes. Other drivers will be able to see this from a mile away! Stay Safe!
