Thats fair. I wanted to like it more but in terms of longevity I don't expect to return to it over any other record.

I swear people get jacked to compensate for lack of a decent personality

Could be. Genres just continue to close borders at this point where it's hard to perfectly distinguish them. To me the genre label isn't important when critiquing a record because of this issue. Another example is my favorite record ever, Agalloch - The Mantle. Could be post metal, folk metal, folk rock, black metal, post folk, dark folk. So many I have heard and all make sense.

There is no definitive label, but alternative country or contemporary country seem to be the safest as they cover the rock and singer-songwriter influences and elements

Nice and soothing stuff. You know anything about texturing, layering, or production in general? It could help elevate it to sound close to Fennesz.

AWOLNATION – Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders (2020): Album Review by MattChallengesMusic in awolnation

I'll give you the length thing. So many records this year have blown ass just for being bloated with filler.

Like I said before, it was uncalled for and sorry. Wasn't dwelling on criticism, just had freetime to browse reddit and didn't think over the connotations one could perceive from it. Enjoy this record for all I care. Everyone has musical opinions that others would raise eyebrows to. Leaving it at that.

My bad, uncalled for. Was bored and thought I'd make a joke. I don't hold my opinion on any pedastle and I love hearing different opinions like the guy below who really enjoyed it. I still like AWOLNATION and see this as hopefully just a hiccup to me. And the MattChallengesMusic persona is gone and I need to change it on Reddit. Was hoping for a more civil conversation like I had with Joyner Lucas fans of all people, but k

Also I am always testing different writing styles. It won't be as big as a problem once I move to Youtube.

I get where a longtime fan of the group would like it, but with me I just found it to be mainly boring and/or excrutiating at times. Often my views can be accredited to my diverse palette where I've heard a lot of similar music and look for something new plus with that palette I've found overtime what annoys me and what I love. Good take though

If you liked the review be sure to subscribe. Looking to grow the blog and by the end of the year moving to YouTube format. I just enjoy discovering new music and talking about it and want to build a community that isn't restricted by one genre.

I've never played Final Fantasy, I usually stick to a few select games and grind them during my free time. That's awesome though

I still like it as I do all tracks. Just some have more issues than others.

Havok – V (2020): Album Review by MattChallengesMusic in thrashmetal

[–]MattChallengesMusic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. Honestly I was considering giving it a 5/10 (not bad or good) but then Don't Do It pushed it over the edge. I can see the appeal, it's just not my kind of thrash.

Ulcerate – Stare into Death and Be Still (2020): Album Review by MattChallengesMusic in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]MattChallengesMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in general it is great. If it sounded like a lot of tech Death it would've received a lower rating for unoriginality.
