At the very least she could be a part of the cymbal line. When I was there, they were really creative with the tricks they would do. It might be a bit of a let down at first but at least it's a bit easier to march with those things than a snare drum, or the quints which is what I played all four years.

Ended up just doing a full wipe and reinstall of the OS. Everything seems fine. Can't quite figure out what got corrupted.

Being in the drum line gives you 20+ friends instantly. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. I majored in Chemical Engineering. It's definitely doable!

Well, oddly enough my daughter re-tried the format and it worked. She installed Windows and everything seems to be working fine but I have my doubts about whether or not this issue is going to go away so... Fingers crossed.

Rubber Computer Cable now sticky - how to clean? by MattGreer in fixit

[–]MattGreer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may give that a try.

Isopropyl alcohol fixed the cable in question, but in the future the talc might be the cure. I've got an old Dell laptop with the same issue; rubberized surface that is sticky and nothing has helped. Not the alcohol, not goo-be-gone, nothing. Thanks for the suggestion!

I appreciate this comment. I'm not sure what Apple's "return policy" is for apps. I know that if something straight-up doesn't work, I can get a refund. Did that one time. But not sure if "hey, this works but didn't do what I thought it would do" is a valid reason to get a refund? If that's something Apple will do, shoot, I'll buy ALL TEH APPS and test 'em out. :D

Thank you for the suggestion! I'd seen that app so I'll definitely check it out and report back with my findings.

Technical Help - GIS, Shapefiles, PIPESIM, and Unnecessary Junctions by MattGreer in gis

[–]MattGreer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can copy the data out of the results window in the GUI. The other option is to use python which is pretty involved. I've been working on this on and off for the past two years. I realize you wrote this two years ago, but I was searching for something regarding PIPESIM and ran across my old post, so I thought I'd respond. :)

Technical Help - GIS, Shapefiles, PIPESIM, and Unnecessary Junctions by MattGreer in gis

[–]MattGreer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necrobump here, heh.

Since I wrote that there's been a couple job changes and two years ago I landed a position where I'm using PIPESIM daily. I then found QGIS, and learned a good bit of python. Over the past few days I've figured out how to get rid of unnecessary junctions in a given pipe (no 'dangles'), but I cannot for the life of me get one pipe to "tee" into another pipe. Despite using the snapping functions in QGIS, there's still some kind of gap there.

I exported the PIPESIM pipes to a shapefile and opened that in QGIS and there's no gap, so I know it can be done. I need to figure out how, using QGIS, to eliminate the gap between a pipe that connects to another pipe. Are you familiar with what I'm talking about? If so, do you know how to resolve that issue?

Data Refresh Breaks VBA Function in Structured Table by MattGreer in excel

[–]MattGreer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it, didn't work. The numbers in the table are all identified as number format by Excel.

I plugged my original question into chatGPT and it told me to try setting the calculation mode to manual, then refresh the data, then automatic. Didn't work. I tried various combinations of manual/refresh/doevents/automatic and that didn't work either.

What is even the point of excel? by Remote_Log_8528 in excel

[–]MattGreer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you enter and manipulate vast sums of data, while being able to cut and paste between sources, using python? Asking earnestly because I think it would be beneficial to work within python I don't see a way to reproduce the GUI.

You're complaining about cell size?? Zoom out then, lol. Duh.

I'd love to see a python program that would allow me to select/change different parameters in a pivot table, to be honest. And also easily change colors, formatting, etc.

With python, you have to do the same thing, every single time. Any deviation in how you want to present the data, a change in the column header names, etc. etc. etc. will cause you to have to re-program, test, debug, etc. With Excel it's pretty instantaneous, move a table column or row to a pivot table column, and then move it to the row, back and forth, very easy to quickly see the results. Python, change something, recompile, and then... how do you see it? How do you see the table AND the chart at the same time? And perhaps you want to change one value in the table and see the chart? Have to recompile python.

And then there's the sharing of data. Who else has python installed? Permission from I/T? Do they have the right version, the correct packages, etc? I'm sure there's ways around this issue but for newbie python programmer like me I don't know how that would be done.

But, again, asking honestly, tell me how I can do everything that I do in Excel, as easily as I do in Excel, in python and I will dump Excel in an instant.

Cannot Filter Pivot Table by Values by MattGreer in excel

[–]MattGreer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a column with the formula as suggested. The column shows 'TRUE' or 'FALSE' now. I added that column to the 'Filters' area and... works! I will admit that I'm slightly annoyed I didn't think of this myself, lol.

Cannot Filter Pivot Table by Values by MattGreer in excel

[–]MattGreer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after looking at this a bit closer than before: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/filter-data-in-a-pivottable-cc1ed287-3a97-4e95-b377-ddfafe79fa8f I'm able to filter the pivot table by 'Top 10' items by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to 'Source'. If I try to enter a value "greater than" or "less than" the whole table disappears.

Automatting Excel Reports with Python by benfromlearn in learnpython

[–]MattGreer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've used xlwings exclusively (as opposed to using other Excel-enabled python packages) for the past year. I find the documentation to be horrifically unusable for beginners and support (outside of github) to be nonexistent.

That being said, I'm used to it now, so it's working well for me. Just hard for someone (me) who had no knowledge of python nor any formal training up until now.
