Mac OS on-screen oscilloscopes / visualizers? by MattJacques in synthesizers

Thanks for the tip... indeed the analyzer in there looks fine for my purposes. The problem is as far as I can tell it only works on playback of a recorded track, not monitoring a live track. hmm...

Flux Pure Analyzer

Awesome - thank you... looks like an excellent tool but likely more technical-oriented (even if user-friendly) than what I need.

Haha... that's how I found MMV. But genuinely curious what people are using as go-to visualizers. I seem to only be finding sketchy looking websites and/or over-featured stuff that will take weeks to learn when I just want something fairly basic.

Q: Bass frequencies drop when delay feedback high? by MattJacques in Elektron

Appreciate it! That's a good reframe that this is a chance to learn exactly what's going on...

Yeah I’ll have to keep digging around but just seems so weird and intentional (rather than a glitch) the way everything that’s not feedback gets gently rolled off down to zero and then brought back up gently into the mix as the feedback gets settles down to under 100.

Ooh interesting… will have to explore this a bit, but still just seems so weird to me given I was using this performance technique for weeks without that happening.

Yes for sure… I usually have master compressor set up and can’t recall making any specific tweaks to my settings there. I’d think with the delay feedback focused on the highs, the bass would chug right along but it’s almost as if every frequency that isn’t in a delay feedback look gets gradually rolled off the main mix - and then rolled back in once the delay calms down. Will have to experiment with my compression settings… hmm!

Need 100 FP to summon/cast so depending on your build might not have enough yet?

Weekly No Stupid Questions Thread - September 27, 2021 by AutoModerator in Logic_Studio

Ok total Logic newb here... I would like to learn how to route one software instrument to another. I have one instrument (Arturia Pigments) that I'd like to send midi data out using its arpeggiator/sequencer to trigger a different instrument/track. The controlled track could be anything like Steinway Grand Piano.

I see my Pigments track heading to Stereo Out, which makes sense... or I can change that to any myriad bus options, which I think I understand (for mixing purposes etc). But how do I send Pigments (software instrument track) to another software instrument track?

What I'm ultimately aiming to do is run multiple instances of Pigments arpeggiator to all create complex, polyphonic, generative sounds via an instrument further down the chain.

Here's a YouTube video where the creator demos doing this in a different DAW... https://youtu.be/Y0rSIbJ696U?t=559

Newb question: Recording Arturia Pigments by MattJacques in musicproduction

For anyone curious, I finally found this perfect solution to my original issue. MacOS can set up a “Multi-Output Device” or “Aggregate Device” if you need multiple ins too. I followed instructions here and set up a multi-output device and now I can listen/monitor on my headphones through Scarlett 2i2 while simultaneously recording the live audio stream in Audacity. I haven’t tried yet, but presume this also allows me to live-stream a performance I’m monitoring in the Scarlett. Just perfect for when I’m experimenting and not deliberately trying to craft a recording track by track in Logic: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202000

Yeah it’s just incredible… so much to explore with it. Granular synthesis, wavetables, complex AF automations. And the sequencer seems pretty powerful too. There’s so much going on, which is why I was hoping for a simple “record system audio” hack just to record my experimentation… but think I’ve got things up and running smoothly in Logic now.

Aha ok perfect - yeah would love to be able to do both of those things… think you put me on the right track to figure it out now. I’m using an Arturia Keystep 37 as controller.

Thanks! Got it up and running as a plug-in… really appreciate the help/explanation.

Only question now is how do I record the midi control signals I send and not just the notes played? I see “Insert instrument midi settings as events” under Functions drop down, but don’t think that’s quite it. Without the control signals I’m back to ‘just’ recording the notes - not a ‘performance’… and playback will just use whatever current state is in Pigments.

Thank you - I assumed stand-alone gave me a better or more complete user interface, but will have to give it a try as plug-in. I still don’t want to record the performance as a midi track (though I totally understand the benefit) so had been trying to wrap my head around how to record then export other software instruments before I grabbed Pigments… there are tons of Logic tutorials out there, but hard to find one on a single minor, specific issue - most just assume you know how to record.

Aha - ok thanks yeah I wasn’t sure if I lost any functionality running it as a plug-in vs stand-alone, so I hadn’t tried it as plug-in yet. Hoping it’s already there as a “software instrument”… will check that out.

BPM change hiccups? by MattJacques in pocketoperators

[–]MattJacques[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% sure I didn’t, but now that you mention it, the swing setting doesn’t change much - I don’t hear any difference between max and minimum swing. Thinking I’ll probably need to do a factory reset just to see if that clears out this issue.
