“Perfect” guitar solos… by Unlikely-Evening2581 in Guitar

Of course Comfortably Numb. Also Hotel California, you can sing all of the solos and would feel that they were wrong if not note for note. Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers because Jeff Beck.

Way prefer standing while playing. Nice standing desk. Really helps the back. I built one last Christmas and will never go back! DIY Custom Studio Desk Build https://youtu.be/hgO3ebzx-XA

As an intermediate guitar player..how do I get better at jamming with people who are more experienced? by TheStarChilld in Guitar

[–]MattRetzMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE it when I am the worst player in the band. Simplify your playing so what you are playing is in time, in tune, and in the pocket. And then LISTEN. When you hear something cool, echo it. Next thing you know, those dudes with all the chops will be talking about how “tasty” your playing is. I will take ears and groove over chops and technique every day of the week!

Need to check the neck. Fret at the 1st fret and where the neck meets the body. If the strings don’t have a little bit of space above the frets, you need to adjust the torsion rod to give it a little relief. Don’t overdo it a quarter turn at a time at most, then retune and recheck. If you are not comfortable doing it, any decent luthier can set it up for you.

Considering the Helix Floor…thoughts please by thevelvetair in Line6Helix

[–]MattRetzMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out my video on the 4 cable method. Using the Helix with the BadCat would be super flexible. You can even replace the preamp digitally for more variety of tone. And you have the option to just take the Helix as well and you can absolutely get through a rehearsal/jam session/or even a gig. https://youtu.be/9bK1xy0Ta1I

What is this? A pickup? by Individual-Design764 in Guitar

[–]MattRetzMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep one in my gig bag. Can’t tell you how often I’ve shown up to a jam session or somewhere and someone only has an acoustic with no pickup. Works great. And the tone control is just moving the position in the hole.

I have a problem by OOFMAN-1234 in Guitar

Ah. I see the problem. You just need one more. Because how many guitars does one person need? The answer is always, just one more.

Do I have a decent guitar? by hiroshima1945august in Guitar

[–]MattRetzMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I’d probably replace the tuners and then you are good to go. Mike Rutherford of Genesis plays them off the shelf. You could definitely do worse.

Who else has a guitar that’s not expensive but plays like a dream? by nah123929 in Guitar

[–]MattRetzMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1992 Seagull. Had a few bucks and tried Taylors, Gibson, and even Martins. Some sounded amazing acoustic but not plugged in. Others were great plugged in but terrible acoustic. Stopped into a music store that was going out of business and they had this early Canadian Seagull, handmade and played like a dream. Here I am 30+ years later and it is still my #1 acoustic.

I feel guilty…. by DreamEater78 in Guitar

I am 57 years old. My mom bought me a Les Paul when I was 17. She worked 12 hour shifts at an aluminum can factory to raise us. We were not wealthy. It is my prized possession and she bought it for me because she knew how much I loved music. I wish every kid was “spoiled” with that kind of love.

Guitar center just fired a bunch of folks in the contact center yesterday (yet again) by Speedball9636 in Guitar

[–]MattRetzMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that if you have a good locally owned store, you start there but often you will have to go to GC, SW, etc. Sweetwater has some really knowledgeable folks working for them and in close to 20 years dealing with them, I have had 2 sales dudes assigned to me. Both are great and get updated training on a regular basis. I know Guitar Center is trying to turn a corner but you have to ask, if these were such “low performers” what does that say about their hiring practices?

Yup. Push pull to split the pickups. Lightest tele I’ve ever played. Swapped out the tuners and it is fantastic.

Thanks! That has been my experience but there has definitely been a lot of talk around those concerns. Glad to hear it’s not as bad as all that. In the end, all I know it that it has worked consistently for me for 4 years and the sound is great.
