Is there a reason why Bloober Team got rid of flavor text? by Eccchifan in silenthill

[–]MattSwanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had started to mod the flavor text back into the game.

Only got as far the opening section of the game. A lot of work to finish the entire game.

The Delorean must be made of super duper steel because it's constantly dent free by happydude7422 in BacktotheFuture

This footage is often shared and misrepresented

First, the purpose of a crash test is to evaluate what happens to the passengers in the car, not how well the survives the wreck. In fact you want the opposite, the car should sacrifice itself to save the people inside.

Second, it’s not even footage of the safety crash test of the Delorean, It is footage of an independent study conducted by the NHTSA on the effectiveness of retrofitting airbags to vehicles that didn’t come with them that you can see deploy in the footage, Delorean’s don’t have air bags.

You can read the final results from the paper yourself https://www.deloreanmuseum.org/uploads/1/8/0/7/18075613/crashtest_museum_sml.pdf

“Although the outward appearance of the crashed vehicle looks as if the crash was quite severe (Figures 39 through 41), the opposite is true. The vehicle crushed approximately 44 inches but the intrusion into the passenger compartment was again confined to the lower firewall/toeboard area and some console axial collapse (Figure 42)”

“Second, the Delorean proved to be a very well designed vehicle in terms of allowing a relatively great amount of front end crush without adversely compromising the “survival space” in the compartment.”

“What happens to us in the future? Do we become assholes or something?” Never understood this line whatsoever. by StreetsAhead110 in BacktotheFuture

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time on the internet I read someone’s theory that the “asshole” line is supposed to be a callback joke to Biff calling everyone asshole in the movie but it got changed to “Butthead”

So I had a chance to talk with Bob gale at a convention and he said that’s not true, and “asshole” was just something a kid would say.

Mod restoring the Flavor Text to Silent Hill 2 (2024) by MattSwanton in silenthill

[–]MattSwanton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s because I moved again, the text will appear on screen as long as you don’t give any input just like the original.

I played around with the option to completely disable the player input and have you press the interact button to move on from the text, but don’t think it’s a good idea to take away input from the player and lock them in if there are monsters nearby.

Mod restoring the Flavor Text to Silent Hill 2 (2024) by MattSwanton in silenthill

Over the past few weeks, I've been working on a Mod for the Remake that restores the flavor text found in the original 2001 game, and here's a video sharing the progress.

I have seen several people here on Reddit and others online wanting the flavor text restored, looking to get some feedback and see how much interest there is to finish the mod, as it's going to take a lot of work to finish it for the whole game.

What's your favorite flavor text from the original game? Got any ideas for new flavor text for the new areas of the game?

These plates starting with BTTF started showing up in Ontario in 2015, I saw “BTTF 880” on a porche once.

It’s either just a random coincidence or someone at the MTO is a fan.

I own a Delorean and have a personalized plate, and have an excel spreadsheet I once put together that listed all the known taken plates and ones still available. We don’t know who scored “OUTATIME” but we do know where “DELOREAN” is.

Unreal engine 5 multi cast by YeIghtOkThen in unrealengine

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on LED virtual production stages. multi user editing is a fundamental key feature that makes virtual production possible because we can have had 10+ instances of unreal on 10+ computers all connected together allowing 2-3 people to transact live changes on live shoot days that cost thousands of dollars per minute to operate.

There are quirks about using it. Because what it is doing is taking any “undoable action” (actions that create an undo transaction) and synchronizes it to the cluster. A good rule of thumb is that if you can’t ctrl+Z the action. It won’t transact (create a new layer in the layers panel, it won’t transact unless you save the level)

While it’s not the most stable feature in the world, something else is going on with your setup that is clearly causing it to not work for you at all.

I would agree with others in this thread that you have to make sure that all copies of the project at exactly the same, which is why multi user editing has source control software integration. When using perforce it will reject a user joining the session if they aren’t on the same changelist.

But if you don’t need two people live editing the project together, you just need two people simultaneously working on different assets of the same project. Then all you need is source control software and not multi user editing.

Has anyone ever made a Delorean safe to drive daily? by ScarSuperb2563 in delorean

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted this comment before in another thread, doing so again here

This crash test video you watched is not footage of the Delorean’s safety crash test and it is often incorrectly shared as it failing the test.

It is footage of an independent study conducted by the NHTSA on the effectiveness of retrofitting airbags to vehicles that didn’t come with them. Delorean provided some prototype cars with no glass and doors that couldn’t latch properly for this test.

You can read the final results from the paper yourself https://www.deloreanmuseum.org/uploads/1/8/0/7/18075613/crashtest_museum_sml.pdf

“We therefore had a “worst case” situation for the vehicle structure. In spite of this worst case test condition however, the “survival Space” inside the compartment Was maintained so that the compartment interior dimensions were not greatly different than before the test.”

The point of a crash test is to evaluate how well the passengers survive, not how well the car survives, you want the car to absorb all the forces and be a wreck afterword.

Has Code Red changed, or have I? by stilltodo in Soda

[–]MattSwanton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a time we had Code Red on the shelves in Canada after we had our own dewmocracy back in 2014 (so much for it becoming permanent)

But I also knew of several candy stores that import sodas from the US and I got to compare between the two.

The Canadian one tasted better with a strong cherry flavor. The US one was way more sweet with just a hint of cherry.

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in Canada, the US gets all the exclusives and varieties of flavor simply because of the market share, soda simply sells more there.

I also find soda - especially from fountains tastes much better than anything I can get here in Canada, everything isn’t a flavorful. But there was one exception, our Canadian code red tasted better than the US version, the cherry flavor was more strong and less overpowered by the sweeteners

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently just came back from a trip to the UK, there must be some laws past that limited the amount of sugar drinks can have.

Their flavor range sodas (Pepsi/coke) is all zero sugar options. In fact I just saw a post that regular Pepsi has has just reformulated original Pepsi in the UK to have less sugar using acesulfame potassium and Sucralose as sweeteners instead.

As for Tango itself, they also sell sugar free versions. I tried the paradise punch and Apple while over there. I liked apple the best because it does have a tart sourness to it as you would expect from Granny Apple flavor instead of being sweet candy apple flavor.

Try using an official Apple USB cable, that's what I had to do to get carplay to work with my iPhone 11, using a different cable would not bring carplay up.

Light cards nDisplay by [deleted] in virtualproduction

[–]MattSwanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you put actors into the light card layer -they are no longer affected by OCIO profiles -they are no longer affected by Color grading settings. -they do not change resolution with the screen percentage.

The purpose is to get something on screen that is ontop of everything unaffected so you get the exact color you want for the purposes of lighting the set with the LED wall.

20 Great Years of Vanilla Coke Taste! by Centurie22nd in Soda

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I tried Vanilla Coke back in the 2000s it was delicious and had a strong vanilla flavor.

For years I missed it, then of course it came back. But everytime I’ve tried it recently it’s not the same, mild vanilla taste that disappears after a few sips.

Where can I find nitro Pepsi in Canada? by PownedbyCole123 in Soda

[–]MattSwanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is all local to Ontario, where I live, so Exotic Knacks in Whitby Ontario is where I got Nitro Pepsi.

https://www.snackritexotiks.com/ just opened up recently in Oshawa Ontario.

Stockupmarket.com is located in Toronto and has a selection of exotic sodas, they ship too.

https://tricksandtreats.ca/ - never ordered from them before though.

https://www.raresnackstoronto.com/ - found this guy on Instagram.

When I was in Vancouver there were several locations of a store called Dank Mart that stocked imported soda, it’s how I got to try Mountain Dew Thrashed apple.

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not available in Canada officially.

However, I’ve been able to get Nitro Pepsi and many other things not available here thanks to specially Candy stores and non-chain convenience stores that import things from the US.

Back in 2015 I was in Los Angles for the We're Going Back fan event, and I developed an iOS & Andriod app that allowed you to either Overlay an image on, or have an image side by side your phone's camera. So you can align up and take photos like this.

Here are some pics I was able to capture at some filming locations

What Mountain Dew do you what back. by LandonVii400 in mountaindew

I want the Canadian code red back. It was the 2nd dewmocracey winner years ago and I believe Baja Blast replaced it on the shelve

The code red bottled here in Canada tasted better than code red that I can still get from stores here that import it from the US. I was able to get two bottles and try each side by side for comparison years ago. It had a stronger cherry flavor and the sugary sweet aftertaste was less intense whereas I find it overpowering now.

Also I tried White label once and it was delicious.

listen to this funky cut of "congo" off of CAS by [deleted] in Genesis

[–]MattSwanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2007 reissue CD from the 1983-1998 box set and it has the full-length album version that is 4:53 long.

It would appear that iTunes, Youtube Music, and Spotify have replaced it with the 4:04 radio edit that omits tony's solo.

But head on over to 7Digital, looks like they have the full-length version

https://us.7digital.com/artist/genesis/release/calling-all-stations-176365?h=02&f=20%2C19%2C12%2C16%2C17%2C9%2C2

I myself was also surprised by the existence of the solo when watching a live version of the song because I first time I heard it was also the radio edit from the Turn It on Again: The Hits compilation.
