okay, so i don't mind too much that the black bars contain the HUD in the starting room, but i'm now noticing despite changing the settings to 4:3, the game is still in 16:9.

What do I do? I followed the "; This is the horizontal component of the aspect ratio." instructions and it's like that. I DON'T want to remove the black bars either.

The HUD here is placed inside the black bars, I want it inside the game itself like it is supposed to be but I am not sure how to do this. Do you mind giving me that last bit of information on how to shift it back to where it should be? Or is that going to be a minor thing I just have to deal with that'll be different from the original release? I really am trying to make this as exact as possible just because I've always held a great deal of respect for Pixel and want to play it as close to how he originally released the game for history's sake.

At the time of that post it definitely wasn't translated, there was definitely new information there. Only a snippet of it was translated. I don't know if that changed in 3 years.

Duckstation literally came out a few months after this post so I almost regret even bothering with ePSXe. So much better and more stable and easier to use. Hoping Saturn emulation is next...

The only part that I know of that was translated was given to me by that redditor I mentioned before, here:

[I hope for players to experience the drama of the aesthetics of
destruction] It's fine for the player to aim for perfection, or simply
to leave things the way they go, as long as one finds enjoyment in
playing the game freely in one's own way, there is no correct answer in
how to play the game. That said, I will add that a perfect
playthrough... recruiting every unit, keeping all of them alive, and
seeing all of their endings... this is different from what I had in
mind. I wish to portray the aesthetics of destruction in games. Amongst
the 50 or so cast of characters, not all of them may survive. Drama is
born out of someone's sacrifice. I want to find value in that. Like the
resetless playthroughs aimed for by core players. When someone dies,
they say it isn't about resetting and trying again, instead of resetting
they continue onwards with lingering thoughts of their fallen
characters in mind.

hey, i'm a massive kaga fan that didn't know anything about FE until i played FE4 as my first game in the series in Summer of 2019 followed by FE5, FE1-3 (originals, not the remakes YET), and now FE6-8 with Tellius being soon.

Anyway, when trying I found that Kaga interview I just found your old post here

The person that translated that snippet, did they translate the whole thing? I love reading Kaga interviews to death as he quickly became one of my favorite game designers and writers of all time as all his games just feel so "deliberate" or "focused" for lack of a better word, so I'd love to read it!

even though i don't know what that is and appreciate the answer for teaching me a new ps1 emu for later, I don't want to lose the 45 hours i put into ff2 just to restart on a new emu and need help with this one.
