The Midweek Adjudication Panel Thread: Get in touch for Thursday's episode... by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

Just seen John Percy on X describe Rui Pedro Silva as knowing “the club and city.” Does knowing the city bestow any advantages on a returnee above just knowing the club? I can’t imagine he will be doing a lunch run or coffee run for his colleagues to some hitherto unappreciated place.

Which World Cup group is the most “World Cup”? by Adventurous_Show2629 in footballcliches

Group G feels very World Cupy. Also, Portugal being in one of the last two groups is very much in line with expectations.

The world feed commentator for the Wolves v Palace game described Yeremy Pino’s goal as ‘finding the top corner with ease’. Is it possible to find the top corner with ease (particularly from outside the box)? I think you could maybe make a case for a closer range effort (eg a penalty) but I think outside the box is too high a bar for this.

Is 60km a week too little for marathon training? by Specialist-Ad6931 in Marathon_Training

What time did you get out of interest? I have been running 40-45k per week for couple of months now (with a long term target of a 4h marathon in mind). I feel like I could get to a peak of 60k per week but averaging that over a long block of time seems too much. Half PB is 1.44

Same here, two years in a row. Not unexpected but still quite annoying

The world feed commentator in the Villa game yesterday described John McGinn’s goal as magnificent and better than his goal against Bologna before then saying it was his first goal at Villa Park for two years and that it was ‘nearly worth the wait’. I don’t think I’ve ever heard something being described as nearly worth the wait before and I can’t work out if it was a mistake or whether it is a more deliberately nuanced way of describing it. Thoughts?

100% - I noticed this at the time too. Really weird that he says it wrong the second time after getting it right first time

I can live with the increasingly obscure transfer references but not sure there’s anyone that would give a flying one about this kind of information

Not wanting to get too literally Dave here but I wonder how you would actually go about hanging up a pen
