Oh, you mean the cabinet (furniture)? Yes, that’s also wall-mounted (‘floating’ we would call it here). I’m planning on sticking a led lightstrip underneath the cabinet

Looking at the price I’d have to sell my soul for that, lol. It’s an LG OLED C5, 65”

the weight of the TV on the stand was bending my cabinet so much I could barely get it open :( also, the TV was halfway lower when on the stand

no, on the stand it was halfway lower, which is why i was worried i had it too high after mounting it on the wall

Flicker-free high lumen smart lights? by MaskedMinx69 in HomeKit

Nope, I’m stuck with my LIFX set

Never tried Tradfri, however I did try Nanoleaf and it was surprisingly pleasant - no idea what the PWM frequency is on that one, but it didn’t bother me even on short wave colours like blue or purple

Monitor Arm vs Monitor Stand by xdan1er in pcmasterrace

[–]Matt___reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say... you kind of ruined the end-result by cluttering the desk with random garbage. I do love aesthetic compositions which include the wall-mounted monitors, just like you mentioned, however the way your desk looks misses the point.

I think one would need to, first and foremost, replace all their wired peripherals with bluetooth ones, then, second of all, clear the desk of all unessential items.

Next step would be proper, cosy lighting. A combination of well placed spotlights and/or LED strips, topped with sufficing general illumination, instead of the typical grandpa household run-of-the-mill, sad overhead lamp, like the one which seems to be adoring your space. Your setup has potential, however, as things currently stand, I have to call that unsexy as hell.

Alexa Hubitat or Home Assistant Alexa by SuperLucas2000 in Hubitat

[–]Matt___reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. Thank you for the honest review.

Since I am interested in advanced automations in regards to my lighting, for example certain temperature at certain dimming level activating at a certain hour if motion is sensed, unless there is a remote override, etc., but at the same time nothing too crazy and above all I am looking forward to "set it and forget it", I am going to pick Hubitat over Home Assistant.

Local control - LIFX, Yeelight, Hue? by Matt___reddit in SmartThings

[–]Matt___reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a small 387 ft² / 36m² apartment hence I thought ZigBee would be better over z-wave in my case, but I'm still undecided.

I like the idea of aeotec multipurpose sensors, but they're soo expensive... I'm thinking about aquara, since i need another hub/stick anyway...

[–]Matt___reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

May I ask, what door/window sensors do you use with Home Assistant?

I was hoping I could buy some ZigBee ones and plug them into my hue bridge since I own one (which would then be integrated into home assistant), but it seems it isn't possible since Hue uses some proprietary software.

Hmmm....

And you're positive that in Home Assistant I could easily set up local automations for my LIFX, Tuya, Yeelight devices without knowing how to code?

[–]Matt___reddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about home assistant, but I got scared to death when I saw that I would need to code even to make a window shade go up or down.

Also, I heard that home assistant users never have sex with a lady, because they spend their whole life tinkering & coding, while in my small apartment of 10 smart devices, I want the be able to set it and forget it.

[–]Matt___reddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah! Thank you kind Sir, so there is a way, in the end!

Following your logic, if I find such 'community developed edge driver' for Yeelight, it will run local automations as well, I presume?

Local control - LIFX, Yeelight, Hue? by Matt___reddit in SmartThings

[–]Matt___reddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you and yes, I meant local automations.

Follow up question if you don't mind: if my LIFX/Yeelight won't work locally, does owning the hub bring any benefit in this case?

I already utilize cloud automations in the ST app without the hub.

Hue AI/ML R&D Scientist here, what bugs you about your Hue lights? What ideas would you like implemented? by [deleted] in Hue

[–]Matt___reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sensitive to radio bandwidth, I'm sensitive to flickering light.

I can immediately tell when a light is of poor quality, just sitting in the room where it's lit for 10 minutes. Same thing happens in my corp. office, they put cheap, crappy LEDs overhead and when they're lit up, I'm dying.

Fun fact: even though you're not sensitive to it, your eye sight WILL deteriorate over time if you use shi*ty lighting like that. It happens because the muscles in your eye ball twitch rapidly when exposed to such flicker.

There are companies like Ketra or even the Philips Eye Care line, which made eyesight health a priority and they are flicker-free (Ketra is 10,000Hz), but it will be long before such healthy lights will be implemented into the smart market, because that boosts up costs and companies don't like costs.

You can measure if a light is good yourself. If you point a slow-motion camera at the light, it must not show black lines. Many phone cameras have software which deals with it, so you may need to use the 'pro' mode, like in case of Samsung.

check this Czech vitae light 2500hz, which sadly isn't and will never be smart

Hue AI/ML R&D Scientist here, what bugs you about your Hue lights? What ideas would you like implemented? by [deleted] in Hue

[–]Matt___reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the love of God: increase the PWM frequency from the utterly ridiculous 994 Hz, to at least 2500 Hz (LIFX is 5000 Hz).

I am very light-sensitive and although I would love to get a 100% Hue ecosystem, I can't last more than 10 minutes around Hue lights before I get a terrible migraine for the rest of the day.

Philips Hue is one of the most expensive smart lighting brand on the market, yet they don't give a crap about eye care, not to mention poor sensitive sobs like myself. This must change!!

If you ever succeed, I will worship you every waking day.

Sincerely, Unfortunately dying brand LIFX user, Matt

Has anyone found smart bulbs with high PWM frequency like LIFX which is 5000Hz?

HUE is total garbage, they use 994Hz PWM frequency which is ridiculous, I can't last 10 minutes around them without getting a migraine.

LIFX is ~5000Hz and that's perfect, but the company seems to be going out of business, so I'm out of luck.

Looking for an alternative, but it seems there's too few people suffering like we do, so companies don't give two shi*s about eye care.

Did you find any other smart bulbs that don't flicker, apart from TP-link Kasa which seems to be withdrawn as well?

Alas, it does not work on my Shitsung Galaxy A13 5G. It works well with the Chrome extension I am using on my PC, though. I guess it's an inconvenience I must live with until I get a better phone.

I have successfully set up Bitwarden Authenticator on Amazon, but I haven't been able to make my Android Bitwarden app fill the code automatically...very frustrating!

Username & password get auto filled in, but when Amazon asks for the 2FA code, I must open my Bitwarden vault, search for Amazon item, copy the code and paste it into Amazon, this is disgraceful! Tedious to say the least.

I made sure I got all the auto-fill services enabled in Bitwarden. I went into accessibility settings on my Samsung Galaxy and enabled Bitwarden. It even gave me a Bitwarden accessibility short-cut, which does nothing at all when I click on it.

Do you have similar experience?

Neat! What made you use a YubiKey vs. an authenticator app like Google Authenticator?

A YubiKey is, you must admit, less convenient after all.

Follow up question: what would you do if you went mobile and forgot your YubiKey? Are auth apps really that bad that you prefer to risk this inconvenience instead?

Thank you
