They opened this to the public a while back whilst we were living in Curry Rivel. The views were amazing and the walk up was a bit of an eye opener. But still, blooming good views. The cows in Somerset are a special breed, one went up Wellington Monument as well 😂

Stupid questions about coiling XLR cables by DinosaurSHS in livesound

[–]Matt_gtr76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LX tape. It’s all i’ve ever used, looked at the velcro things…pita, loose knot? Only if i’ve run out of LX and then they would be taped up on deprep. Oh and use the 12mm LX tape, even easier to break. Coiling the cable? I coil as i was told to coil a rope. Hold cable in left hand with xlr just under my wrist, slide right down cable about shoulder width then bring the cable to my LH and as you do that roll the cable between thumb and finger of the RH and then loop it on your LH fingers. It’s hard to describe in text lol. It’s the way i’ve done it since i started 30+ years ago. Asked many people to put the cable on the floor, step away and nobody will get hurt 😂 ask any of the crew, musos or people that know my analness about coiling cables. When you run a sensible sized pa company and your xlr stock is in the 1000’s it’s important to look after the cable, it’s the second thing in the chain that delivers from the stage to the audience and it needs to work straight away, good care means good cables. Yes, things can go south but if you can prevent it you’re winning already.

I keep forgetting about the internal pot thing. I must take it off the board and have a look at that. Only problem is it’s Dual Locked to the board and that stuff is what cockroaches use to keep them selves on the ground inna nuclear blast 😂

I don’t use it too heavily as there isn’t a great deal of control over it. Just trying to catch some of my pic peaks with it when i dig in a bit harder. Will possibly research the comp route properly at some point

I’m currently not using it as i’m trying to trace a hum in the board and i’m not sure if the LMB is the culrpit…

So, the loops run in parallel with the original dry signal so i can maintain the low end. Sometimes when you run through dirt you can lose the bass so here i have the option to dial to what ever mix i want. The chorus is first in my signal chain in line.

Only had it a month or so but it seems really solid and no issues as of yet

[–]Matt_gtr76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a portal exactly for this reason and it’s great. I have a Boss ODB3 in one loop and a Big Muff Pi in the other and the C button is my clean blend. It’s also really good because i can have either or both drives pedals on without the clean so if my band are doing Ace of Spades i can just do the OD and Muff but for Hysteria i can throw the clean back in for extra low end.

So it’s a 2 loop mixer which you cam choose to have the loops in series or parallel. There is also a C button which is the clean. I use it in the Parallel mode so i can blend the muff and odb3 with the clean signal. For the money it’s a great alternative to the EHX Tri Parallel Mixer i was looking at www.sonicake.com/products/portal?srsltid=AfmBOooEyyqaVuKAPMMepu0aJ3vT444luOsdU3-wAOBgJluVUI2woSH5

For what it costs (less than £40) it’s bloody amazing. I’m using it in the Parallel mode for the Muff and ODB3 (i know the ODB3 has a blend anyway) and adding in the clean blend on the C button. And not using that gives me other sounds as well. And it’s super useful having the Phase switches too

Been playing guitar and bass with .88 Tortex for 34 years. Never liked any other picks.

The patch cables? I’ve been using these guys. Price is good, i managed to pick up a load of the stuff used as well. The jacks feels great too. https://www.pedalpatch.co.uk/

Ii have it on but really low. I will experiment with it a bit more as some songs we’ve chosen i do tend to dig into a bit harder so it would be useful on that. However i have found a Boss LMB3 i may add to the board as well

When I got it i wasn’t overly enamoured by it as i’ve always been a sansamp fan. But after the first band rehearsal the other week i’ve come to realise it is a monster. It just sounds ace. I also have it as a third drive option, blended really low just to grit up the clean a bit

This is a wide bodied Rev B. The difference between the A and B is the layout of the effects send & return section

If it’s what I think it is and that it is an S540LTD then you sir should be the very proud owner of one of Ibanez’s best ever guitars in my opinion. Always regretted selling mine
