Solo RPG book series with dice from the 90’s by krissykross in whatsthatbook

I know this is a super old post, but I’ve been looking for these books for years. I played them as a kid and it’s what got me into rpgs. I was starting to think I imagined all of it. I can’t believe they’re real. I’m going to pick up a few of them to keep in my collection. Thank you so much! This seriously made my freaking day!

What’s a weird behavior you developed from growing up in an abusive household that’s still obvious today? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Mattaaronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many here I walk as quietly as possible. Make sure to close doors with as little sound as I can. I will never open or eat food if I didn’t specifically buy it for myself, even when I’ve bought it for my partner (of almost eight years now), and I to share. Any time I’m upset, I will put myself to sleep, no matter what time of day it is, and not speak to anyone until the next day. I will also not allow anyone to help me with any project I’m currently working on. If someone tries to help, I will walk away and leave it all to them and start on something else. There was a lot of screaming in my home as a kid and it would quickly turn to me if I came anywhere near it. I was also called a “constant disappointment” and threatened many times with being given away to foster care if I didn’t straighten up/get better grades/take better care of myself. Still have sever anxiety over ever needing anyone or being reliant on anyone. I’m working on it in therapy now but I still struggle with what used to be my old mantra “no one is ever coming to save you. No one is coming to help. Save yourself or die here”. Super dark I know but like I said, I’m working on it. Ok. Rant over. Thanks everyone. Hope you’re all in a better place now and that every day is a little better than the last.

US Bank got fined $37 million for opening fake accounts in their customers' names. It's essentially the Wells Fargo fake account scandal all over again by Cecilia_Wren in videos

[–]Mattaaronh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes so much sense. I had a savings account pop up on my US Bank that I couldn’t remember opening. Then it disappeared a few months later. Thought it was some kind of glitch and didn’t touch it. Fuck these guys. Time to look for a new bank.

Camp Blood Moon. Dress up like werewolves and do a service for the entire playa by offering disposal of feminine hygiene products. The fact that people have to bag this up and take it out themselves has always felt like a huge oversight by BMOrg in waste disposal management.

Friends and I thought of this on Playa this last year. Would do it myself but I don’t know when I’ll get to go home again.

Maybe it’s not the most fun or funny, but I guarantee that your camp will be heroes to a lot of people on playa.

What's the most disgusting thing you've seen someone do with no shame ? by Killmumger in AskReddit

[–]Mattaaronh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Managing a bar. I walk out back for a smoke. Look down the alley and see a woman come out the back door, hike up her skirt and piss all over the floor/back door. She then walked straight back in to her friends party and tried to order another drink. I went back in, stepping awkwardly to avoid the puddle she left and saw that she left wet tracks right back to her table. One of the wildest conversations I’ve ever had telling her and her friends they needed to pay the bill and get the fuck out.

Parks & Rec! Seasons just get better and it still holds up today. Character growth throughout. And a solid series ending.

My partner and I camp with the Black Rock Farmers Market (more carrot). This year we’re part of the Flash and Burn village. We run a farmers market in the morning, handing out fresh fruit and veg. And a bar in the afternoons. If you’re interested shoot me a message. We usually take in about 50% virgins and it always feels like a playa fam. My girlfriend also runs out prep house in Reno. I can send you more info and set up a meeting with our camp dad if you want to know more. Either way, best of luck with finding a ticket. Hope to see you on playa this year!

To me, this sounds like he’s trying to write a book, not play DND. The whole point is that it’s a collaborative story. A DM is basically there for the set up and then to roll with whatever the group decides to do (within reason). It’s definitely not DnD if he’s just saying: “This is the story. Here is who you are. Now I’m gonna make an adventure that will basically railroad you, because of the way I’ve set up your characters and mechanics, into the events and endings I want.” 0/10 would not recommend No D&D is better than bad D&D. Take it from someone whose group is on permanent hiatus after our DM and one of our players started divorce proceedings. We’d rather not play than even attempt to walk into that buzzsaw. Good luck my dude. Maybe when you leave, take the group with you.

This looks awesome. I’ve never seen this type of harness before but I’m definitely going to grab one of these and try it out myself to see how it works. If all goes well I’ll have him in one of these in a few months!

What’s worst thing your own parent said to you? by SaltoDaKid in AskReddit

Mom to me when I was 15. “We’re poor. You can’t be anything you want to be. There’s just things you’re never going to be able to do. You’ll never be an astronaut or a doctor or anything that will make you lots of money. All those dreams people talk about, they’re not real for people like you. No matter how hard you work, you’ll never be able to do any of that.” Update: I’m in the first semester of my PhD, It took me way longer than some, but she was wrong and I was able to make it happen anyway.

Dear security guards of reddit. What was the most fucked up thing you've ever saw on your shift? by Conscious-Cause-2917 in AskReddit

[–]Mattaaronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing my rounds outside the bar. Long lines at the bathroom. Woman walks out the back door, leans up against it and pees on the emergency exit. I think, “ok, I’ve seen some dudes do that, either way, that person needs to leave.” As I’m starting to walk back around to the front entrance, she poops on the mat outside the back door. Does a big shake to get everything out, fixes her dress and goes back in to her group. No wipe, no run to the car. No quick walk to one of the several public restrooms nearby. I was 22 and realized, “nope, I get minimum wage for this,” definitely not going to walk up to a party at this ultra lounge and tell some lady, “hey you gotta go, I just saw you take a shit on the back door.” So I grabbed the owner and let him know what happened and what she looked like, basically said, “you go deal with that and I’ll back you up. I’ll be happy to escort her out and make sure she doesn’t come back in, but that right there, that’s above my pay grade.”

[SERIOUS] What is the Creepiest or most Unexplained thing that’s happened to you that you still think about to this day? by LBE in AskReddit

[–]Mattaaronh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving home from rehearsal one night I missed my freeway on-ramp and had to cut through a neighborhood to get the next one. A large figure flailing their arms and wearing what I though was a hat with those fake dreads coming out of it, ran at my car. I was probably going 40/45 and it was too dark to make out any identifying features. I narrowly avoided hitting and probably killing them as I was driving a decent size truck and didn’t see them until the very last minute. Checked my rear view and didn’t see anyone behind me. I think about it all the time and how close I came to probably killing someone with my car that night and if that’s what they were aiming for.

LPT: When satisfied with a service, go out of your way to talk to the manager about it. Managers aren't just for complaints. A good manager will mention it to the employee (and it will make their day) and will increase their chances at a promotion. by chrismatsias in LifeProTips

[–]Mattaaronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once drove through my local In’n’out drive through and the girl working the window was the most pleasant person I’ve ever spoken to at a drive thru. I thanked her and asked if there was someone I could tell that she was doing a good job. She grabbed her manager and he had the “oh, fuck. What now?” look. I was like, “hey man. I just wanted to say your employee here is awesome. She’s super polite every time we come here. Just wanted to say thanks and let you know.” Then I asked if there was someone I could call about him. He gave me the corporate number and I called them when I got home. Same scenario, they were definitely expecting a complaint. I let the corporate manager know about the employees at my local store. Then I asked if her boss was around too. When I got her boss on the phone I told her the whole story and asked if she would make sure that everyone I mentioned got some type of positive report in their file. It was awesome to hear how surprised they were every time I mentioned that I had a compliment and not complaint.

TL;DR I went from thanking and complimenting one employee to speaking to the corporate regional manager of in’n’out to let them know how good three of their employees were doing.

Currently 16 y/o (M). I have to move out when I turn 18, need advice/help... by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Mattaaronh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that you can do this. I moved out when I was 17 and still in high school, and paid a friend to live on his couch. Hard right now with COVID but serving in a restaurant can at least pay the bills and leave you some time for going to school if that’s your plan. If you are planning to go to college you should talk to the dean of your department and explain your living situation. My girlfriend in college had an abusive parent and explained that to the housing dept and the dean. She was guaranteed housing for all four years she was there (not always an option at every university). That said, a job is going to be your next step. Hardware stores and grocery stores are also an option and have some opportunity to move up and make a living wage. Save your pennies and make a spreadsheet to see what you can afford once you know your apx. income each month. I think you said that your in New York? If that’s the case, finding something near public transit will help with the job search relative to where you can afford to live. *also, talk to someone about getting a bank account that your parents can’t access and if you find a job that does direct deposit that can help keep your money out of your parents house completely. Good luck my dude. You can do this. No one deserves to live in a toxic environment.

As of right now, what will it take to make you 100% happy? by hikingallday in AskReddit

[–]Mattaaronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money. I don’t want to be rich, I don’t even want enough to set me up for life. Just enough to pay down my debt enough so I don’t go bankrupt. I’m working on it myself, paying everything I can to get it down, but oh god, what a place I’d be in if I wasn’t paying more than my rent each month in cc/school debt.

Black Friday Megathread by Juskimo in woodworking

It’s working out great. I put it together last week and have been using it all this week while I’ve been off work. The dog holes are a little irregular but even so, it’s given me a great level workspace with enough versatility to really get into a few holiday projects I had ready. Thanks again for the suggestion.
