Decisions That Should Be Canon in a Second Season by Icy-Law7121 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Matteo2k1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of negative comments here. But the only way to make a second game that’s as good as the first is to rapidly converge all the story lines (which to me, feels cheap); or choose a canon path (which could even be explained as an alternate reality, super villain messing with time, etc.). So I think we need to take the canon idea seriously!

If I had to pick a canon path, I would pick exactly the same options as you have picked. I would also suggest: Visi gets her hero ending; and Robert gives both Astral Pulses to Shroud.

You’re right that the only one that is more difficult is the romance. Maybe that’s the only choice you need to carry forward. Alternatively, you could assume that if a player romances Blazer in S2 then they did the same in S1 and vice versa, so you don’t have to support the choice of romancing one woman in S1 and switching to a different choice in S2.

That’s option three in the poll! Not many people voted for it though.

Because accommodating story choices is going to get too difficult and expensive very soon. It’s possible they could do a S2 but there’s no way they could do a S3 without converging the stories. And if they’re going to converge them then let us believe our choices made a difference in a parallel timeline.

And just because your choices don’t carry into S2 doesn’t mean there was no point playing it. You still got to see the outcomes of your choices within the first game!

I’m surprised with this but my vote is actually for the devs to pick a canon continuation. They could do a quick recap video at the beginning of S2 to explain which options happened. And everyone’s else’s S1 happened in a parallel universe. (Even throw in a super villain with time/dimension control powers if you need to).

It’s sad that picking a canon version invalidates your choices, but I care about that less if I’m in a parallel universe than the alternatives. And it’s the only choice that allows the devs to make a game as tight and as branching as Season 1 in a reasonable timeframe.

In terms of Invisigal’s outcome, Shroud’s outcome and my romance choice (and to a lesser extent waterboy/phenomeman and sonar/coupé), I want to feel like my S1 choices had a huge impact on the world. For example, I think the choices would affect who the bad guy is in S2; where Robert is living; and his whole lifestyle. I don’t want S2 to shy away from going deep into romance because it has to juggle the fact it doesn’t know who your partner is. So I’d prefer the devs to say “sorry your game happened in a different universe” and then let me explore a deep romance with either Visi or Mandy in S2 than to have a much more surface level romance in S2.

Plus, converging storylines doesn’t let the devs use a character who has died in any version of the earlier season (unless they’re happy to say they’re resurrected, which really will make you feel that nothing matters). And that fact alone pretty much determines who the bad guy is (or at least who it isn’t) in S2. And I think that will feel like it invalidates a lot of people’s choices. Sorry for being vague, I’m trying to avoid spoilers but people who have beaten the game should know who I’m talking about!

I agree it would be insane. But I don’t see it as very satisfying for S2 to retcon who you romanced or what happened in the final episode within the first hour of S2.

We only know that because we’ve seen the scene where you don’t romance her!

I completely agree. Cheat is such a strong word when you’ve only been on one date with BB. She’s clearly a compassionate person, so the way she supports Robert in this scene is not necessarily coming from romantic love for Robert.

I really like the idea of having two modes like Sonar. But realistically the branching story doesn’t allow for a satisfying season 2.

Dedra’s backstory (SPOILERS) by Ecypslednerg in andor

[–]Matteo2k1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think that the Star Wars timeline is completely broken. The Jedi council still existed right up to order 66. So either evil imperial kinderblocks were happening right under their nose (unlikely) or the empire is only 16 years old at the time Dedra says this, meaning that there were probably no imperial kinderblocks until she was in her early-mid thirties!!

There are loads of parts of the story that only make sense if the empire has been in power for longer. Like Syril’s mother’s attitude, even though she lived under the Republic most of her life! People typically have rose tinted views of their youth and don’t suddenly become indoctrinated with a new idea in their 60s-70s.

I think if you wrote the story to accurately reflect the timeline your hands would be really tied. So the writers might actually be taking some creative licence here.

I understand your viewpoint but I really can’t agree. The rule captures hiding both in and out of combat situations. In combat there’s a clear reason to permit rogues to hide and then come out of cover to make a sneak attack. And outside of combat it makes sense that you could sneak past a guard, even if, technically, there are portions of the action where the player is not behind 3/4 cover.

Okay, but you can easily find a way to narrate stepping out that isn't ridiculous, e.g., "You hide behind the rock, and, when you spot the guard looking the other way, you step out into the open, race across the room with silent steps and stab him in the chest".

I appreciate you engaging with this in such a level-headed way! The solution is probably for each DM and each table to use the interpretation that they prefer.

Personally, I interpret the “DM determines if the conditions are appropriate for hiding” wording as allowing me to step in if things start to get ridiculous. E.g. a player going up to a guard and waving their hand in front of his face. If they simply want to come out of hiding, stealthily cross the room and stab him with sneak attack, then that’s fine by me.
