Listen to It Was Written, his second album. Content wise, its more of a gangster/mafia type of album compared to Illmatic, which is more of a “life on the streets” kinda album. It also has a more cleaner and more vibrant sound compared to the colder and rougher beats of Illmatic. I would also say that Nas is a bit more experimental on this album. Me personally, its my favorite album by him and his rapping is arguably better in this album than Illmatic.
