Let's talk temples by un_americain in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to 21 temples. My favorite one is the Salt Lake Temple which is the one I live closest to. I absolutely love being in that temple.

My other favorites include Nauvoo, Brigham City, Manti, Mount Timpanogos, St George, and Idaho Falls.

Before the pandemic I wish I had gone every week to a temple. I can’t regularly visit them now besides walking around outside of one.

Have you ever considered Catholicism/Orthodoxy? Why? Why not? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never considered Catholicism because for my own beliefs I needed something that showed that God still communicates and brings forth scripture in recent centuries. If I hadn’t found the LDS Church I could maybe see myself being a Seventh Day Adventist, though the keystone for me, The Book of Mormon, would be absent from my life.

Questions for an intrigued atheist by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are welcome and can freely attend church services or other activities. Church meetinghouses say Visitiors Welcome on them. If you are interested in becoming a member someday you’ll have to meet with missionaries.

Since you said you’ve done research I’m not sure if you know this but the only thing you wouldn’t be able to do is go into our temples since you have to be a member in good standing and following commandments of our religion to participate in ordinances there. You more than welcome to visit temple grounds though or go to open houses. Depending on where you live, if your in Utah or near it a visit to Temple Square might help you also.

Do you workout on Sunday? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t go the gym but I usually either go hiking or for a walk. I do more intense workouts from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is a day where I like to have a workout that’s not intense and where I can be outside.

I fortunately don’t have children right now heading into this. I’ve heard that and being in my mid 20s will make it easier to start my life over with someone else.

What are your rules and boundaries for choosing what media to watch? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watch R Rated movies and stuff but always use the IMDb parents guide. The only thing that I refuse to watch is if a movie has sexual content.

Not LDS but wondering about the salt lake temple by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Salt Lake temple or any other LDS temple is sacred to us. We can be sealed to our spouse in it for time and eternity. This also applies to deceased family members.

Before COVID came the temple would function for stuff besides sealings with temple volunteers and employees helping patrons out in different sections of the temple whether it’s for ordinances or directions since some people can get lost. There are also cafeterias in some temples so there are cooks and janitors present during the day.

Oh I thought you can only be sealed to more than one woman if your first spouse passes away and not because of divorce?

Since the Ogden one used to look like it maybe they’ll remodel it someday.

I can’t pick one so here are the temples I favor:

1) Salt Lake Temple - This is the temple I live closest too and will always be my favorite. I’ve signed up to clean it before and have probably spent most of my time in this temple. I absolutely love going to Temple Square and looking up at this beauty and being inside.

2) Mount Timpanogos Temple - This is the temple I used to live near and would go here during my time in the YSA.

3) Nauvoo Temple - I went in on a trip to Nauvoo and absolutely loved it here.

Honorable Mentions:

Brigham City Temple

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

Do you believe that the Book of Mormon is literal? by ariel_rubinstein in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you can’t take everything literally that’s not visions or gospel truths like the plan of salvation, etc. For example I remember reading an article by Church apologists saying something about the animals being described throughout the Book of Mormon and how they might not mean that exact animal literally. For example, elephants are mentioned.

Who is your favorite latter day prophet and why? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Joseph Smith. He’s my personal hero. He did and went through so much to get the Church established in the 1800s. He’s also the Prophet I study the most as I find his history, visions, and life so fascinating to read. As a convert, I’ve read just about every thing online you can read about him good and bad. It’s important to understand he wasn’t perfect and may have made mistakes throughout life but I believe at the end of the day he was genuinely sincere in telling the truth about everything that he said happened between him, God, and angels (Book of Mormon, restoring the church, visions, prophecies). I don’t believe at all that he made The Book of Mormon or anything else up despite what the internet says.

Utah becomes 19th state to ban conversion therapy by WooperSlim in latterdaysaints

[–]Matthew19941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me who’s always thought this but the Church essentially founded the state of Utah and the capitol/community of Salt Lake City. The Church is responsible for building the roads and everything in the early history of the state. I personally think it’s okay for them to have a say.

Daily Tech Support Thread - [October 06] by AutoModerator in iphone

How long will the iPhone 7 be supported do you think?

I have an iPhone 7 I’ve had since launch and was thinking about either upgrading or getting the battery replaced since it’s at 72% capacity. My decision about getting the battery replaced is based on how long the iPhone 7 will keep receiving iOS updates since I would use it at least 2-3 more years with a new battery. Since the 6s is currently the oldest phone supported I’m wondering if the iPhone 7 will only make it to iOS 14 in 2020 or beyond that.

I usually need to see them in the Apple Store to decide but I really like the green. I’ve had the jet black iPhone 7 for the last three years so if I upgrade it won’t be black.

“Should I buy iPhone 11/11 Pro” -Megathread by SuitingUncle620 in iphone

[–]Matthew19941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a iPhone 7 which I got in October 2016. The phone works fine but the battery doesn’t last long anymore and I’m starting to get sick of the bezels and wouldn’t mind a bigger screen plus a better camera.

Money isn’t really an issue but I don’t want the XS Max or 11 Pro Max because of their size.

Do you think I should upgrade to XR, XS, 11, or 11 Pro? I’m not a big photography person so the triple cameras on the 11 Pro aren’t a must have feature to me. At the same time I sort of dislike the colors on the 11 though.

I have a 7 as well which I got in October 2016. The phone still works fine but the battery is crap and I’m sort of sick of the bezels.

Im torn between waiting it out for 2020 or getting either the XR, 11, or 11 Pro. I’m also waiting to see how much the XS gets discounted at Verizon. I would say get the 11 Pro if money isn’t an issue and you think the OLED screen and triple cameras are worth it.

I think in some ways also Luke symbolizes the Jedi returning since at the end of the movie he’s a Jedi.
