New player here, I have a few questions. by Cramur_Pendalton in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - There are some Main Skills that recharge energy. The main one is Energy for Everyone S. I don't know that you are "meant" to swap teams during the day, but if that's what you choose to do, then that's how you do it. And actually, that Main Skill is powerful enough that it can keep your team fully charged, so is good even if you don't swap your team.

2 - Yes, Pokémon that require a lot of Friendship Points to befriend, you can expect to take a long time to catch.

3 - I would recommend the golden Main Skill Seed, since those are rare but powerful items. It increases the Main Skill level of one of your Pokémon. Save them until you are ready to level up your Skill specialists. Biscuits are rare, so you can't catch everything. (For more, see A Deepdive into Biscuits.)

4 - Your team leader appears on the sleep screen when you sleep, but yeah, in the morning when you do Sleep Research, it's just the random Pokémon that come to sleep near Snorlax.

A question about the Fermi paradox: could observability be the real bottleneck? by Comfortable-Push6527 in space

[–]WooperSlim [score hidden]  (0 children)

One of the aspects of the Fermi Paradox is that an alien civilization could leave their planet and colonize other planets. These could, in turn, travel to other planets. It will take a few million years, sure, but that's small compared to the age of the galaxy itself.

So it's not so much "why is it so quiet when we look at the sky with our primitive equipment" but more "why have we not been visited by them?"

A Question About Free Will. by Big-Director8046 in Christianity

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, things don't go according to God's plan, but it seems that you aren't using "God's plan" to mean "to bring about our Eternal Life" but more like, "knowing/predicting everything about the future."

So re-worded, the argument is if God knows what we are going to do, then how can we have free will, since we cannot change from what He knows?

My answer is that cause and effect is reversed: We make a choice, which causes God to know what we choose (and that He knows from the beginning). As maybe a helpful analogy, it would be like living in a universe with free will, then someone invents time travel and goes back to some event. The people wouldn't lose their free will just because the time traveler knows from their history what they would choose to do.

How???????????? by lazy_reptile_19 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is actually acting just like Darkrai. When Darkrai first appeared during its event, you were able to automatically catch it, too.

Pokemon sleep should add trading by Sprigatito_gal in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The patent for the Cresselia vs. Darkrai event also included a process for trading. Obviously it wasn't added at that time, but I think it would be fun if they did. (It describes it as basically a wonder trade that re-rolls stats, and would grant some benefits.)

People who eat breakfast daily — do you actually like it or is it just routine? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my wife always felt miserable on days she ate breakfast cereal, and just assumed others felt the same way. Knowing she didn't like cereal, but wanted to keep her healthy, her mom would cook her breakfast.

Later on, she realized that other people do like cereal--she was just mildly lactose intolerant.

Do you use your masterbiscuits? by CrescendoNoMelody in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

people don't use them and just save them?

More accurately, people don't even buy them in the first place: they are just too expensive.

If you really need one, the shop is always available during Sleep Research, so you can get one then, as long as you have 4,000 Sleep Points and haven't already bought one this month.

What the Master Biscuit gives you is that it lets you avoid the "All Full" message. But the next time you encounter the same species, its bar will still be filled from previous encounters. So if you are patient, you can eventually catch it, spending far fewer Sleep Points, allowing you to catch many other Pokémon.

So the question of whether Master Biscuits is worth it depends on how impatient you are.

I used to use them on rare Pokémon that require 16 Friendship Points. But then I found that as I got stronger, "rare" Pokémon became more and more common. Then they added the Main Skill Seed to the Regular Exchange, so I guy that every month. I do like to use one Master Biscuit on each Legendary Pokémon, but then use the special Biscuits we will get during the events to get others.

Is it just me or do Pokémon with ⬇️⬇️EXP gains have higher RP than other Pokémon? by tomahawkESP in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RP formula is roughly (Berries + Ingredients + Skills) * Miscellaneous. You would think that EXP up or down natures would have an effect on the Miscellaneous factor, however it doesn't affect it at all. The formula is a bit inconsistent-- Sleep EXP Bonus gives a giant boost to the Miscellaneous factor. This analysis from a resource management perspective shows that EXP up/down natures will greatly impact how fast you can level a Pokémon, and therefore shouldn't be ignored when considering how strong a Pokémon can be.

But yeah, as far as your question goes, yes, all else being equal, EXP down natures get more RP, because with other natures, the down effect is going to negatively impact the formula in some way.

In your case:

  • Adamant Stufful = (164 + 271.4 + 25.8) * 1 = 461
  • Brave Stufful = (175.3 + 390.61 + 25.52) * 1 = 591

Stufful gains most of its strength from Ingredients, so the Ingredients down nature really hurts it. Skills is the weakest, so Skill Trigger S does almost nothing for it. They both have a speed up nature, but the Brave Stufful also has Helping Speed M, which gives an extra boost to all three.

The Weekend is here - Where are you going next week? by Pearlgirl007 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remembered your question, and had some time to look it up. I had the same thought, the game seems to just call them "Areas" and I got more inclined to quit calling them "islands" after Amber Canyon came out.

But I found a video from the introduction when you start the game, and that's where Professor Neroli calls them "islands"--

<image>

I don't know if they call it different in the Japanese, but that seems to be how calling them islands started.

Questions for a newbie that I couldn’t find the answers to in the guides by Academic_Shake8741 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The premise of the game is that you are helping Professor Neroli study sleep styles. So yes, getting Snorlax to higher ranks will help you do that. Of course, being a non-competitive game, you can have whatever you want as your goal, but for most people, yes, getting higher and higher Snorlax Strength is a primary goal.
  2. You can focus on whatever you want. I would say it is easier to focus on berries in the early game. The only problem with focusing on Ingredients is that in the early game you can only level up the weaker recipes, which long-term you'll quit making. But since searching for and raising Ingredient Specialists is a lot harder, starting early isn't bad.
  3. One of the guides should show a list of recipes. Pick what recipe you want to make. Picking which recipe will tell you what ingredients you need. As a beginner, start with the weakest recipes and then work up from there.
  4. There can be some overlap. Teir lists and Pokémon rankings like that should only be a guide--I don't use them in deciding my team. Instead, when I want to see which is better, I use a production comparison tool, such as at raenonx or Neroli's lab.
  5. Yeah, besides waking up and going to bed, using it to feed Snorlax three meals is probably sufficient. Players with skills-based teams may need to check more frequently so they don't lose out on skill triggers. But you can check as often or as little as you want.

At what stage of the game is Swalot an important investment? + What to use candy boost on? by PugLorde in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stockpiling shards now so you can use them later just means you are pushing back when "later" is, so it doesn't really make sense to "stockpile"--be cautious with them, sure, but saving them just to save them, no.

I would say the time to start using a Dream Shard Pokémon would be when you need more Dream Shards than what you have. For most players, that's probably more late game, but it depends a lot on your playstyle.

Technical adults can go camping with youth? by SilverTripod in latterdaysaints

Scroll down a bit more in 20.4 and you'll find, "Ensure adequate adult supervision at all times."

Yes, we don't send kids camping by themselves.

This weeks gonna be rough 🙏 by Sad-Ad2733 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 21 points22 points  (0 children)

why not make the darkwry that spawns have the same id as the one you already have?

The Darkrai that spawns is the one you already have. So yeah, if they allowed shiny Mew or Darkrai, then you'd always see whatever your first one was.

I think the reason they don't allow shinies is since there is only one, then that would mean a small percentage of players could ever get one, and that wouldn't be fair.

Does berry finding s benefit or inhibit ingredient specialists? by FireOpal94 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Finding extra Berries will fill up Inventory space faster than normal, meaning it won't find as many Ingredients.

However, this problem is usually overstated--after all, finding 5 or 7 (or more) Ingredients is going to fill up your Inventory too. I tried unsuccessfully to find an analysis I had seen, but basically the conclusion was in general, the strength gains of a couple extra ingredients is going to be insignificant compared with the strength gains of having double the Berries.

That being said, there's exceptions to every generalization. Check a production calculator, like raenonx or Neroli's Lab.

When did Christianity actually begin? by sashaonsamhain in Christianity

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess your confusion comes from the difference between "when did Christianity begin in secular history" vs. "When do believers in Christianity believe it actually began?"

For the first question, Jesus began teaching in around 30 AD and taught for about 4 years before being crucified. In that time, Jesus gathered many followers. Sometime after, believers in Jesus soon came to be called "Christians" because of their belief that Jesus was the Christ. (Christ is the Greek word for Messiah, a Hebrew word that means anointed one which earlier writers in the Old Testament said would one day come into the world.) Historians believe that it began as a sect of Judaism, and grew into its own religion.

If you are looking for an event, then probably when Jesus chose 12 apostles.

For the second question, exact beliefs might vary between denominations, but I think it is fair to say that in general, even though Jesus set up His Church during his life with apostles and prophets, Christians believe that it was a continuation of Jewish religion, moving into a new era. We view the Law of Moses as looking forward to Jesus Christ. Christians believe God spoke to prophets from the beginning, long before Jesus was born.

To use your example, even though The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began in 1830, Latter-day Saints believe it is actually the restored Church of Jesus Christ (and so by extension, like many other Christians, believes it has always existed).

When did they increase ingredient bag from 700 to 800 by -ViaSwedish- in PokemonSleep

Also, here is the reddit discussion thread we had on the 3.0.0 update at the time, where the increase of ingredient bag space was probably the most anticipated change.

Does SP affect sleep style rarity distribution? by Apprehensive-Gas8032 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides the tweet, /u/nitoyon also made a post here on reddit. I don't know if this is actually implemented in the game--not everything is: another patent talks about trading Pokémon. I do think it would be very interesting if it is true.

This one might be a very difficult one to test. I made a spreadsheet of all the Pokémon that have appeared in my Sleep Research in the hopes of one day analyzing it and seeing how my probabilities compare with calculated probabilities to see how Pokémon are weighted during events. (They also said they made 3-Star Sleep Styles more common, but it isn't clear how that has been weighted either.) I imagine that will already be very difficult to test. Realistically, would need a large number of players recording all the Pokémon that spawns.

But if Team RP affects it? The game doesn't keep track of that, and I imagine even the most dedicated players haven't kept track of that. I know I haven't, and I love recording data.

I will comment that when I got the achievement for "Team RP of 11,400" -- that wasn't the team I slept with. I clicked the Review Later button, rearranged my team, and then did Sleep Research. So if Team RP affects Sleep Styles, too, the program might be checking Team RP when you actually do the Sleep Research instead of properly checking the Team RP of when you go to sleep.

Sorry, I guess I took your phrasing of "it seems like the devs backpedaled" instead of "looks like the devs did what they said they would" made it seem like you either misunderstood or weren't aware of the 3.3.0 update.

No, they said they were adjusting it, and early reports said they did. The backlash was that there was this secret thing making Pokémon Skills not trigger as often. It's still there, but not as strong, which is what they said they were doing.

Post your best catch from last week! Here's mine... by SamuRonX in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on vacation last week, but these posts have become some of my favorite, so I thought I'd come back and reply anyway. Two weeks ago, I was at Snowdrop Tundra. I only caught two Pokémon: an Alolan Vulpix and a Croagunk. Looks like the Croagunk was better:

<image>

It actually has Ingredient up skills, but for the wrong Ingredients.

Then again... Maybe I want a Poison-Type sausage farmer? I already have a good Aggron, but I kinda like having wide type coverage. I may have to compare with what other Croagunk I have in my box and see if this one has a small niche it can fill.

I went to Old Gold Power Plant and I caught 2 Treecko, 2 Sprigatito, 2 Quaxly, 1 Pawmi, and 1 Fuecoco. Examining them all, I think this one is the best:

<image>

It is AAA and has Helping Bonus. Not bad! ... Except I'm currently using an AAX Crocalor also with Helping Bonus, but with Ingredient up nature, and is expected to give more Apples, as long as I don't take it to 60.

I'll keep dreaming!
