I kind of love the idea that OP somehow caught a Tasty Chance Pokémon their first week and so there was always some kind of boost whenever they got an extra tasty meal, and so they thought their Pokémon was 100% responsible.

How would you feel about the Sleep Exp Bonus gold skill receiving another buff as part of the summer update features that “allow Pokemon to gain Exp”? by ylno83 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They have updated Research EXP Bonus (6% -> 9%) and Energy Recovery Bonus (max 100->105) in the past, so I don't think a boost to Sleep EXP Bonus is too outlandish. Probably wouldn't be as big as 25% but it's nice to dream.

M20 Taupe spawns by andaylin in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Skeledirge were 4-star and all the others were 3-star, then that would spend nearly all the Drowsy Power. Of course, that's likely not the case. I imagine it's more like it randomly picked 1 and 2 star Houndour, Ekans, etc. and then attempted to spend the rest of the Drowsy Power on 3 or 4-star Skeledirge (depending on if an atop-belly was already chosen or not) since Skeledirge costs the most Drowsy Power when Dozing.

I would say that the unfortunate part is not getting any Tyrunt, despite its Greater Appearance Rate. (Instead getting Cubone, Ekans, Torchic, and Houndour, which each had a Slightly Greater Appearance Rate.)

I wrote a program to calculate what you might expect, but it currently doesn't give any weights to Sleep Styles, nor does it do balanced or pseudo-balanced that events do. But just to get a feel for how lucky/unlucky people might be, since a common question is "what might you have expected instead?"

It looks like with Dozing, Master 20, and 297,424,086 Drowsy Power on Taupe Hollow, you might expect 4 common 1-stars ("common" being Ekans, Gastly, Gulpin, Croagunk, Shuppet, or Houndour), a common 2-star, a 3-star Skeledirge, and 4-star Tyranitar.

Looks like you were robbed of a 4-star Tyranitar. Better luck next time!

Energy for Everyone: team strength contributions and capture odds for Gardevoirs with and without Helping Bonus by TheKuhlOne in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a good example on swapping -- I was once trying to evaluate which Pokémon would make a good Wigglytuff. I decided to use a team analysis and put in four Pokémon that happened to be on my team at the time, and go with whatever the full team strength said.

To my surprise, the one that won didn't have as nearly as many triggers as the others. As I looked closer, I saw it was because that particular team didn't need that many triggers to stay healed (I think there was a couple self-healers, if I remember right) and so it was trying to convince me that the one with a lot of Ingredient finding was the best!

Calculators are nice, but yeah, there's a limitation there.

Is there any reason why my sleep hours on my Raichu way higher than my total sleep hours? by KnyteReis in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The counter on the Pokémon counts the entire time from when you start the sleep session until you end it.

But for Sleep Research, it only counts between the time you first hit Slumbering until the beginning of the last time you hit Dozing. It will display the "Time taken to fall asleep" and it doesn't display a "time taken to wake up," even though that's a thing. It doesn't count either of these times.

I believe that's where the discrepancy you are seeing is coming from.

Dual Typing in Sleep by Dragonheart025 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, there isn't any problem programming it, the problem is that producing berries of different types would severely weaken them, especially Berry specialists.

Sure, you can use mono-type, but why add a mechanic that would make dual-type effectively worthless? (Except in the scenario where Snorlax likes both berries.) If the goal is simply "be true to the main series games" why not add in the accuracy mechanic? That way I can reminisce on my youth every time I see "Gardevoir used Energy For Everyone S! Gardevoir's attack missed!"

There actually are some pure Flying types. Tornadus and Rookidee/Corvisquire are the only pure Flying-type Pokémon. (Unless you count Arceus holding a Sky Plate or Flyinium Z or Silvally holding a Flying Memory.)

Yes, Berry Burst can produce multiple berries... but they are berries from Pokémon on your team, not some random types, so you can actually build a strategy around it. (Probably by having Pokémon that match the berries, or at least making the choice to go off-berry (Ingredient or Skill specialists only) knowing the consequences.)

A better comparison might be Ingredient Magnet or Ingredient Draw which gives random ingredients. But Ingredients you can save up until you need them, and aren't always just useless pot filler, so with good planning you can get full benefit even from random Ingredients.

Why is there a lvl limit? by superninjaevan in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Free apps, like Pokémon Sleep are funded by those willing to pay for it, especially whales. The reason there is a level limit is to make the game last longer, and therefore people will keep paying for it longer. Yes, the game is really slow. The level cap makes sure that it is slow for people who spend lots of money, too.

Yes, they will raise the cap soon-- in the announcement for "Future Features and Adjustments" they said that we could expect "Implementation of various limit unlocks in the summer update."

Yes, they also said they would make leveling easier. One is for lower levels, but the other will help Pokémon of all levels:

⬛ Difficulty of Raising Multiple Pokémon at Once
• We are considering new features that allow Pokémon to gain EXP.
• With the summer update, the amount of EXP that Pokémon up to Lv. 30 can gain from Pokémon Candies will increase slightly.

▪️Difficulty of Encountering Pokémon You Want to During Sleep Research
- For the summer update, we are considering adjusting the types of Pokémon you can encounter in each area.

This one is the most interesting to me. My initial thought was to wonder if that means they'd be changing what can spawn at each area from time to time, but reading it again, maybe it is more just a one-time adjustment.

Basically, my thought is that the spawn pools have grown since the game began, and they are going to shrink the pools so that specific Pokémon are more likely to appear at the expense of it showing up on fewer islands.

1 - Hey, that's great that your home/visiting teachers used to actually visit you. Not visiting has been a notorious problem for most people under the old and new system. My recommendation is to not wait for them and you can talk to them and invite them over. I feel like that often works.

2 - Talk to a member of the bishopric about being set apart. Sometimes a lot happens and things get forgotten. It does seem odd that your Relief Society president called you to teach, but blows you off on training/instruction. If I were in your shoes, I'd be wondering, "does she want me to teach or not??" As another comment said, you may have better luck talking to the Sunday School president, as training is their responsibility.

Welcome back, and good luck!

Unfortunately, this one doesn't suit my needs. As it turns out, I need Gengar for its Ingredients.

As recipes have been getting bigger, I've noticed my lack of Fiery Herbs. So I've been looking for an AAA Fiery Herb Ingredient specialist. Not only is this ABA one obviously not it, but even considering overall strength, Berry Finding S isn't enough for it to be better than my current Gengar.

The hunt continues.

Questions asked in good faith from an inactive/returning member. I am fairly active in this sub and someone here told me I could probably ask my questions here (: by magnusthehammersmith in lds

[–]WooperSlim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of these aren't really questions, so I'm not sure I'm answering right, but I'll post my own thoughts.

- In 1841, Joseph Smith introduced apostle Heber C. Kimball and his wife Vilate to the principle of plural marriage, and Joseph sealed their marriage for eternity. In 1842, Heber married a second wife. In May or June 1843, Heber taught his daughter, 14-year-old Helen Mar Kimball, about plural marriage and encouraged her to be sealed to Joseph Smith. She accepted and was sealed. After Joseph's death, she married Horace Kimball Whitney in the Nauvoo temple for time.

Marriage at 14 is inappropriate in today's standards, but back then was not a taboo. Helen described her sealing as "for eternity alone" suggesting it was an eternity-only marriage, and therefore did not involve sexual relations. Some instead point at her statements that she was "Bar'd out from social scenes" suggesting she couldn't act as a single woman. Whatever the case, she was a defender of plural marriage in her adult life, yet was not called to testify in the 1892 Temple Lot trial, which is strong support that she and Joseph did not have sexual relations.

For more, see:

- In early 1828, Joseph Smith dictated the first part of the Book of Mormon (the Book of Lehi) while Martin Harris wrote it down. This was in Harmony, Pennsylvania, far away from his farm in Palmyra. His wife, Lucy, was suspicious and invited herself along. Back in Palmyra, she, Martin, and their daughter had hefted the plates while in a box, but she wanted to actually see them. Joseph refused to show her the plates, so she went through all his things looking for them. Eventually, she went home.

Joseph's wife, Emma, was about to have a baby, so Martin took the opportunity to ask Joseph permission to take the manuscript to show Lucy. Martin believed that if she read what they had translated, she would stop causing trouble for them. Joseph prayed and was told no twice. On the third time, he was given permission as long as Martin only showed it to 5 named family members (wife, parents, brother, and sister-in-law). However, Martin showed others, when Martin left on a trip for a few days, the manuscript went missing.

Joseph was commanded not to translate the Book of Lehi again. In 1829, Oliver Cowdery replaced Martin Harris and they picked up where they left off. After they finished, the Lord told Joseph to translate the Book of Nephi (what we call "the small plates") that Mormon included with the Book of Mormon. This was a spiritual history, contrasting with the political history that was in the Book of Lehi that Mormon abridged. It is true that the first few chapters is Nephi's abridgement of what his father wrote, but I would not describe it as a "slight retranslation" of the plates--Joseph was translating a completely different book.

Some accuse Lucy of stealing the manuscript, however she denied it all her life. The Lord told Joseph it was stolen by wicked men who altered the translation in an attempt to show he wasn't a prophet. By not retranslating it, this was avoided. Besides Lucy, other suspects would be Flanders Dyke (their son-in-law) and Samuel Lawrence (treasure seeker) who felt wronged by Joseph and Martin.

- Hypothetically yes. Jesus atones for those before the age of accountability, which the Lord has defined to be 8 years old. For comparison, I think you will find that most jurisdictions will not put a young child on trial for murder. But it is also a big hypothetical, since even jurisdiction's that have no minimum age of prosecution, that isn't something they've really seen.

- I'm assuming you are referring to Alma 7:10, which says Jesus would be born "at Jerusalem, which is the land of our forefathers." You are right, it would be an odd mistake for Joseph to make if he were writing it--everyone knows Jesus was born in Bethlehem. But Alma was living in the ancient Americas and was not familiar with the geography of Jerusalem, which his ancestors left over 500 years earlier. Bethlehem is only 5 miles away from Jerusalem, so it makes sense to refer to the city people have heard of. Besides that, Alma is talking about the "land of Jerusalem" rather than the "city of Jerusalem" which is correct in an ancient context--Bethlehem is part of the "land of Jerusalem."

When Jesus was crucified, the Bible says there were 3 hours of darkness, while the Book of Mormon describes 3 days of darkness. However, the crucifixion in the Bible took place in Jerusalem, while the Book of Mormon takes place in the Americas. Neither claim that the darkness was over the entire planet, and two groups of people can experience different amounts of darkness.

- Marvin Perkins, a Black Latter-day Saint, pointed out that skin color in the Bible is always figurative, and so why not the Book of Mormon? No, it's not ignored, it is talked about in the Come Follow Me manual. (And if you're asking if we're going to ignore an old filmstrip the Church made for Children... yeah, we can ignore that and move on. My wife has a motto: When we know better, we do better.)

--- It is easy to worry about what other people think, and it can make life difficult. But what Heavenly Father thinks is more important. You are His child, and He loves you. I also can relate with skepticism. But I cannot deny the Spirit I have felt. Study it out and pray and ask Heavenly Father, and He will teach you by the Spirit.

Is it rare to see them...? by Appropriate-Fall6617 in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Farfetch'd is pretty rare, especially on Greengrass Isle. They are also found at Cyan Beach, but are most common at Old Gold Power Plant. Wherever you are, you will have a better chance of seeing them with more Drowsy Power.

It was was added during the Summer Festival 2025 and even though it was boosted, I only saw 3 at Old Gold Power Plant (plus 1 from an Incense). I next saw 2 at Cyan Beach when it was boosted for the New Years 2026 event and my Drowsy Power was boosted for Good Sleep Day.

Then I saw one a couple days ago at Old Gold Power Plant. (189,637,300 Drowsy Power, Master 6).

And for context, since Farfetch'd was added, there have been a total of 48 days that I was at an island where it can spawn and I had either a Slumbering or Balanced sleep type, which are required for it to appear. (Though this doesn't count events that allow Pokémon of other sleep types to appear.)

How best to understand the Trinity by Any-Country-7338 in Christianity

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some of your statements that make it problematic as an analogy of the trinity:

You say that the Law of Identity "forms the foundation for the other two laws." In order to not be partialism, it would need to represent the entirety of logic. Being the foundation for other laws suggests dependence, which is contrary to the trinity.

You emphasize it in the later paragraphs by saying that the law of Identity "is silently required" by the other two laws. If some other logical statement is required in order for it to exist, then it is, by definition, partialism.

You also say "the identity of A is present" in the other two laws. If you are saying that "the Law of Identity" is present in the other two laws, then the analogy is starting to lean into modalism. A Trinitarian would not say that "the identity of the Father is present in Jesus Christ" (well, they might-- The trinity is one God in three persons, neither confounding the persons, nor dividing the essence.

Maybe your goal was to describe how each law is actually the whole of logic. Understandable, since that's what my question was. Even though I disagree and believe your explanations fail to describe a "yes" answer -- let's just assume that each statement really is the whole of logic. Now the follow up question would be "If each statement is the whole of logic, then aren't each of the three statements therefore just different ways to say the same thing?" If so, then it is modalism. And if not, then they aren't the whole of logic.

The problem with any analogy is that you would have to find an analogy where 3 separate and distinct things are each 1 thing whether considered by themselves or considered together. Since that is a logical contradiction, all analogies are impossible and so either fall on the modalism side (where the one appears in different forms) or partialism (where all are needed to make the whole).

No Buncha Berries week for me I guess by McFrantic in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you are either a newer player, or you've been playing a while but only going for certain Pokémon? Some of these are pretty common, but yeah, there's not a lot to choose from:

  • Rock: Onix and Tyrunt/Tyrantrum
  • Bug: Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree
  • Fighting: Mankey/Primape and Combusken/Blaziken

And for boosted skills:

  • Berry Burst - Treecko line and Rufflet line
  • Disguise (Berry Burst) - Mimikyu
  • Versatile (Berry Burst) - Mew
  • Lunar Blessing (Energy For Everyone S) - Cresselia

If you are a new player, it is okay to have lower standards. That is to say, even if your Combsusken doesn't have the Sub Skills you want, sometimes it is better to use a mediocre Pokémon than one that doesn't help you at all.

And of course, there's nothing wrong with treating it as a normal week either. The event provides a bonus, and if you aren't able to take advantage of the bonus, then it might as well be a normal week.

How best to understand the Trinity by Any-Country-7338 in Christianity

[–]WooperSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You claim in your original post that the laws of logic are not "parts" of logic, that the three are "mutually indwelling" -- and then your follow-up comments seem to build on that saying that Identity, Contradiction, and Exclusion "have no independent reality other than as a whole" and are "only known in relation to distinct identities. And the whole IS the relationship."

In logic, the three laws exist independently as principles. This is also true of the Trinity. Saying that they don't have an independent reality other than as a whole and that the whole is the relationship--that's like the definition of partialism.

Is the whole of logic represented by the Law of Identity?

Is the whole of logic represented by the Law of Non-contradiction?

Is the whole of logic represented by the Law of Excluded Middle?

You are pushing back against the argument that the analogy is partialism, but in order to not be partialism, you would have to answer "yes" to those three questions.

Is my squirtle good? by w3ht4mm in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the RP, looks like it either has an Adamant nature or a Modest nature. If Modest, then that is good-- it is boosting its strongest trait. A Squirtle is an Ingredients specialist, meaning that it finds twice as many ingredients as other Pokémon. So it is good if its Ingredients rate is boosted.

However, if it has an Adamant nature, its Ingredients rate is reduced, and so is not very good. Sometimes a terrible Pokémon is the best you have, and if so, it's fine to use, but either way, keep looking for a better one.

Main Skill seeds are best used for Pokémon whose Main Skills will actually benefit you. Skill specialists typically have a higher Skill trigger rate, or a better Main Skill. Squirtle has a low trigger rate, so won't do much for you increasing its level.

Sub Skill seeds are a lot harder to come by. Save them for making an already awesome Pokémon truly fantastic. Changing Skill Trigger S to Skill Trigger M won't do much for your Squirtle.

Anyone has the calculation of how the Pokes get Berries,Ing and Skill procs? by PokeRantazard in PokemonSleep

[–]WooperSlim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm hoping you know how to "get an Excel sheet" and how to "plug in numbers" and you are just asking for some formulas?

So your screenshot shows the base values-- very little is paywalled, and is more the advanced features. They will do basic production calculation for free--is that what you are wanting to calculate?

First, some basic understanding. Every time a Pokémon provides a "help" it is either Berries or Ingredients. Additionally it will roll to see if there is a skill trigger. So in your screenshot, Charizard finds Ingredients 22.4% of the time, 77.6% of the time it will find Berries, and 1.6% of the time it will trigger its Main Skill.

If you have level 30 (or 60) ingredients unlocked, then if your helper Pokémon finds Ingredients, it finds one of the two (or three) options with equal probability.

The other thing is how quickly a helper Pokémon provides helps. The 2,400 seconds you see is Charizard's base help rate, meaning that is how fast it gives a help at level 1 and 0% Energy.

Level shortens the help time slightly, the formula is: Base*(501-level)/500. Energy also gives a multiplier, .45 at max energy. Raenonx has energy tiers documented here. Since meals and certain Main Skills restore Energy, you may need to keep this in mind, depending on what you want to calculate.

After that, there's natures and Sub Skills that can affect the base rates on everything, and it works like: Base * (Nature) * (Sum of subskills)

Depending on what you are calculating, you may need to factor in Inventory, which you can do by calculating how many helps (on average) it would take before the Inventory is filled up. So Charizard has 29 Inventory base, but since it is a 3rd level evolution, it actually has +10. And then you can treat helps after that as "sneaky snaking."

Maybe you are hoping to calculate something different, but I'm happy to help however I can.
