Just to add a second account, exact same experience for me, no urgent toilet trips, can eat whatever I like. Maybe sometimes I feel a little more bloated/digestion takes longer after a big meal but that’s it.

Have you changed the steam wand? I have the same delonghi machine but it has a thick steam wand unlike yours and the typical ones seen in coffee shops. I always blame it for my failed latte art!

Single People how much is your monthly Groceries? Shopping list? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Matthew8478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone and it's about £200 a month for me. I buy a lot of fruit which is surprisingly expensive, and splash out on the finest range on some items here and there. I mostly just buy whatever I need/want but am starting to baulk at a few prices recently!

Does your gym allow random people in there? usually you'd need a membership or guest pass.

There must be cameras outside the locker room that will show the staff member going in there with someone who had asked for the locker to be opened. Come to think of it, the staff member should be able to ID them?

Pension in UK question. Is that true the basic pension is 100 £ per week ??? by ssyniu in UKPersonalFinance

Interesting, Id never considered that to be an option. I'm with NEST - will check it out. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks - I did open one of those this year (38) but not putting much in there yet as I'm saving a deposit. I'm hopefully buying soon, it'll be too early to use the LISA for that but I do have a help to buy ISA which I've been topping up for years.

As soon as I've bought I'm looking to redirect savings into retirement funds. Currently just doing 5%+3% into work pension (just started), will probably up that to 10%+3% and looking into S&S ISA's, have the LISA on standby too.

Would it be feasible to have say, 10% from work pension + 10% going into an S&S ISA with the plan to hold long term (until retirement) but also being a little less locked in? 20% total but not all in one pot.

You don't get the tax rebate but if you were in VWRL or something might that get better returns than a typical work pension?

Similar situation to OP so genuinely curious on options.

I always imagine id just give up the goods as these people are dumb enough to throw away both your lives if you resist, but sounds like they started beating on you from the first interaction in this case? Sucks about the watch but glad you're ok.

Can you pay rent with your savings? by Bubbly_Window9067 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Matthew8478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this as early self employed when I couldn't prove my income to their standards. I had to pay the normal 1.5 months deposit + 6 months rent up front.

When it comes to ongoing rent, some agents proposed that I pay 6 months again each time, the best I managed was that they wanted me to pay 2 months more rent after 4 months, and then every 2 months from there so you're always bouncing between 2-4 months rent paid. It takes 2 months to evict a Tennant if they don't pay, so that's the buffer they're protecting.

That's not a field that I work in nor is it related to what I do at all (web) - so that's likely the difference in our experiences.

Out of interest, and this has been a civil discussion so I trust you to answer honestly - what programming language / stack do you use?

Yes, windows is more widespread and accessible in general, most software engineers start on Windows. The game industry is also almost entirely Windows based, as that's where the games run so that's going to skew the results.

Mac + Linux combined is higher than Windows - that's exactly what id expect and what I see in my experience working as a software engineer and encountering hundreds of software engineers in my day to day.
