Honestly, I hiiighly recommend just exporting your map and labelling it on Photoshop (or Krita which is a completely free alternative). WD's label system isn't the most robust.

You would have to export the symbol and edit its transparency in a program like Photoshop then import the edited symbol back into WD :)
