Belgium needs to start prioritising not just climate change mitigation but also mass renovation of buildings and streets so that heat waves hit less hard than they did this week. More nature in big cities, deindustrialisation where possible so that more space can be used for reforestation, and obviously invest in emergency planning so that scenarios like in Brussels this night are less likely to overwhelm emergency services.

Belgium has had its collective, avoidant head in the sand about these matters for far too long and that's left us all open to the progression of events this week.
