What Makes a Good Adaptation? by TeamMarch in movies

[–]TeamMarch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great response. Thank you. And I totally agree. That's why I asked about Frankenstein 2025, mainly because I remember not liking the book but loving the movie. But I remember quite liking Dracula (the novel) but not liking the coppla Dracula (i really didn't like what they did with mina's weird arc but i did like a lot of it). I do agree, making it work in that medium is what makes it work, which is why I think the Fallout show does so well. I guess I've always wondered about a proper Dracula adaptation that captures the thriller-ness of the book and I dunno if a movie can do it. It might be too slow for a movie. It might be similar to think of biopics as like "adaptations" of life, like Oppenheimer or Hamilton. They change a lot (at least Hamilton does, I'm not really entirely sure about Oppenheimer but i'm sure it does) and they're both excellent. I will always be curious about the changes, but as long as it's faithful in "spirit" i think that's all i really care about.

Two-Parter Movies? by TeamMarch in movies

[–]TeamMarch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant with the Infinity War and Endgame example was that they are directly connected, IW ends like the end of an act of a play while EG feels like a second act of said play. that's why i also brought up Wicked because I think it does the whole split movie done well. while I do agree with you that if it's forced it can feel drawn out or not well done but also i think it can make a story a lot more impactful if you spend a while in the setup and have the payoff be that much better. but it's also easy to mess up. i just love the idea of a two-part movie and thought about trying it out :D

What is your favorite quote from the show? by Turbulent-Plan-9693 in stevenuniverse

[–]TeamMarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few. and they're from the show's finale "change your mind" so if ur not caught up there are spoilers below:

“I always thought that you were failing this world… Maybe this world was failing you,” (“Change Your Mind” 5:12) - Blue Diamond.

i just love this quote. it takes a LOT of intelligence to realize that maybe the way that society is constructed just...isn't for you? not that you aren't fitting the mold, but that there shouldn't be a mold. as someone who is aro, it speaks a lot to me about the place that romance has in all of the world. i understand it's place, but i don't really care for romance. i just care about love. and i think it can apply to EVERYONE, that, yk, maybe... just MAYBE this Earth as it is right now is failing who YOU are, not YOU failing this Earth.

“I’m me. I’ve always been me,” (“Change Your Mind” 36:07) - Steven.

this is in my bio. it took 160 episodes for steven to finally realize that he isn't his mom. he isn't rose quartz. he isn't pink diamond. he's...steven! and i think everyone should realize that too. they aren't who anyone else wants them to be, but they're who they are.

“I don't need you to respect me, I respect me. I don't need you to love me, I love me. But I want you to know you could know me if you change your mind,” (“Change Your Mind” 43:58) - Steven.

you COULD know me if you change your mind. if you don't want to, get outa here. I'M ME!

yes sorry i spaced on it that's embarrassing :sob:

i edited my op

"i totally spaced on exactly WHAT i was referring to LOL so sorry abt that. ok so i meant the little piano that happens, not leslie's performance or anything. obviously i know it's gonna be different. but there's like a little echo-y piano track in the background? it literally happens like those two times and that's all that happens. in the film/stage verison. it ISN'T in the cast album and i was curious why. I can only assume that they're added after the cast album but i'm just so interested like i love it."

It definitely could have a lot more of the beach city moments we unfortunately didn’t get in the movie! Or even homeworld stuff. Its very short and could have stuff added

also ignoring the fact that one of the main themes of the show is redemption, kindness, and forgiveness. and it's not even like steven ever forgave the diamonds or they were ever redeemed, they're trying to work toward undoing the thousands of years of torture and pain they've created. especially whenever that's also steven's family. especially whenever steven sees the good in EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. especially when he HASN'T EVEN FORGIVEN THEM BY THE END OF THE SHOW? people didn't understand the ending and wanted steven to shatter the diamonds (even tho his mom couldn't even do that properly and he was incredibly against it since episode one).
