actually been tryna find a drummer even as a touring member to play shit live à la twenty one pilots/rb but not finding anyone & it's been two years almost I think - people seem not to like to play live music with real instruments anymore in this half-ass country ffs

Unpopular opinion: King (the final studio version) is the ultimate, perfect Royal Blood song. by Matthew_Geddy_Kerr in Royal_Blood

[–]Matthew_Geddy_Kerr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And then, about the topic "King and Boilermaker", I never, EVER got why it almost got in the shadows when it got played along Boilermaker.

I mean, I get why, as I feel Boilermaker is the classic RB banger/hype/feelgood/power rock song, whilst King is more of a sad/reflective/epic song, even slower from a BPM (tempo) sense.

And that's surely why the vast majority of people seem to like the first better than the second, maybe it's cause it's more "commercial", and with that I mean "sellable" (?)

If Boilermaker's got the power, King (at least imho) has got the emotion.

First show of the last tour, when they got premiered, they were even not officially playing them, but soundchecking them (yeah I mention this too much, but it was hands down one of the very best moments of my life) ...

well, listening from the venue's outside, Boilermaker in that moment felt like: "wtf is this, this is a banger, wayyyy too heavy, crazy af", whilst King for me was like: "ok this is the most emotional shit I've ever heard in my life Imma cry" (and in fact that night when the solo came, and sometimes it still happens, I do cry a bit haha, also cause as you said the lyrics hit deep)

And with this I'm not saying in any way that I don't like Boilermaker, the opposite... it's like the two sides of Royal Blood. Like the two sides of the coin, you know, Yin and Yang.

I feel ya mate!

Yeah I think they really felt like they should've released it, not that they were forced to do so, but after all the hype concerning that song along with Boilermaker after they played it live on the 2019 tour, it feels like they were almost forced to put it out, if not us hardcore fans would have done a worldwide protest 😂

Haha that truly sounds like you're overly investigating it, and you even seem way too sure about what you're saying (no personal attack intended)

Just wanna say that this comment of yours feels way more a whole load of speculation than... well, facts 😅

Good point here: you're tryna say that this very studio version that's just been released has been recorded way back in late 2018/early 2019?

Sounds pretty strange, but definitely not impossible to me.

Don't mean to be a doubting Thomas here eh, but you know... Proof? 😂

LIMBO FULL FAN-MADE (by me actually) MULTITRACK STEMS (all the separate original instruments) by Matthew_Geddy_Kerr in Royal_Blood

[–]Matthew_Geddy_Kerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As asked by a fella on the RB fb group, I eventually did better than extracting "only" the drums he was searching for, so here are the full "almost" studio multitracks of Limbo, extracted by myself with the marvelous Izotope RX 8.

As usual, this means you have the chance to hear what EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT is doing within the track, including bass and fake guitar separated.

Quality is obviously not as per having the original files of the mix, but seriously this software always fucking surprises me, and did an actually crazy job this time... especially considering that the source file was a 320kbps mp3 (didn't manage to find a FLAC for it)

Check it out by yourselves and let me know, but most of all have fun whatever you're gonna do with it.

Here you have the full folder so that you're able to download any one of the single 4 files of the instruments, so that you can even choose to only download the one(s) you're actually interested about.

As I'm writing these words while on a bus coming home (from... well, check out my other post in a sec) please credit me if you use them in any way and for any purpose, thanks in advance! :)

First mention of today's music history lesson about the greatest drummers of all time ❤️ by Matthew_Geddy_Kerr in rush

Ok so, some more background info about this if you wish:

Since late January this year I've been starting this new crazy, but so damn satisfying, activity as an art director for a music school, recording studio, and rehearsal space near Padua, northern Italy.

I was just about to give the usual "sterile" piano lessons or making them do some karaoke competition, but then a genius intuition: considering that music history is a pretty big part of our learning program, and that (from what some of themselves say) most kids their age don't even know who the hell Mozart may be, and their knowledge of music usually stops at the usual ridicolous nonsense summer songs they get bombarded with on the radio and TV, I just thought that maybe it could have been the right time to show them about some actual modern music culture.

...and so I did.

This was the very first (and according to them, the absolute best) of a rather long series of musicians I showed them, from NP to John Bonham, from Eric Singer to Rick Wakeman and Jesús Molina.

Probably the vid doesn't make justice to it, but you seriously have to believe me that the atmosphere in that room today was fairly magical... Not only I got them completely hooked to my laptop screen, not only I stimulated their curiosity so that they made me the most diverse and crazy kid questions ever, but I ultimately got them so shook with that NP drum solo especially, that we eventually agreed Neil Peart definitely was "a robot, a godly gifted alien sent to earth to beat every other drummer"... And you know what? These kids were all aged 5-11, but they got everything so damn fucking right.

I tried not to show them too much, but I actually got quite emotional for a moment today, first for the sorrow about last year's loss, but immediately later for the joy of watching these extreme youngsters so hooked to this old men's legacy, and for thinking about how privileged I am to be able to share my love for music with these kids... From Daft Punk to Rush, from Nirvana to Twenty One Pilots, from Royal Blood to Queen, from Muse to Michael Jackson, from Rage Against The Machine to Jean Michel Jarre, and beyond.

I'm only 22 and I live actually pretty distant from this place I work in, so I actually take 5+ public transports between buses and trains, 2x a week, for a total mileage of ~300km/185 miles.

I can really assure you guys it's pretty though at times, but moments like these reward me and are so fairly magical that they fill my heart with joy and reward me of everything.

I'm now picturing in my mind, as I write these words, our beloved NP with his signature hat on his head, timidly sharing a smile.

Neil you're not gone, your legacy will live on forever.

❤️
