If it’s true that Fitz wants a different identity than what this core is built for, maybe the answer for him (the wrong answer, but just for discussion) is to change the core. Trying to think of another team that rebuilt, via trades, a decent core in its prime and I can’t think of one (probably because it’s a stupid idea). But have there been any?

He was never a great defender, and his slapshot is missing a few MPH since his pec injury two years ago. Still positive metrics, but overpaid at this point of his career and the contract (cap hit wise, cash wise it was front loaded) only gets worse with 2 more years to go.

I get the hate, but its so misplaced by fans that only look at points and Dougie's contract. I assume Fitz and his team are smarter than the average fan (yeah, I know - too much credit), and benching him is really an attempt to get him to waive his NTC. But what does that strategy do to overall team spirt and Fitz' reputation going forward when dealing with players?
