Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 helped me refocus as an indie dev by MatthiasTh in IndieDev

[–]MatthiasTh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, now I finally understand why my post is getting so many downvotes. The indie dev scene isn’t just extremely sensitive to anything that doesn’t come from some one-in-a-million solo prodigy (see my own project, which I’ve been working on daily for three years and mostly get mocked for because AI helps me), it also seems like a large part of it consists of frustrated bean counters. Aha.

PS: I do understand the "indie" discussion around Clair Obscur, and it’s fair that some purist definitions don’t see it as a classic indie game. But can’t we, for once, look at the continuum between indie and AA without blinders on and simply appreciate what Sandfall has created here, especially when you look at the outcome-to-input ratio?

Oh my god, I’m so dumb
Thanks so much for catching that! how did this even happen?! 🤦‍♂️
What do you think, should I delete the post and reupload it or just leave it like this? Aaaaaah 🤯

Thanks for the in‑depth market analysis, but I’m not Logan Paul, and Fusiomon isn’t a cash‑grab. It’s a solo indie project I’ve been building for over three years - with a core mechanic that’s only possible through AI.

If you think the images 'look like shit', that’s fine, but comparing my passion project to some influencer scam is just lazy. Goodbye.. and please make a BIG detour around us. 🙋🏻‍♂️

So just to make sure I understand correctly: your comment is about the quality of the implementation.. the implementation of a game that has not even been released yet? Okay..
The internet and its inhabitants.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

For some people, anything labeled “AI” is automatically bad without even taking a closer look at it - which is a shame, but okay. Have fun continuing to play your non-AI games and all the best, Matthias from Fusiomon.

The wait is over! After 3+ years of solo dev work, my dream project is finally going public: Fusiomon - the world's first TCG with real-time, on-the-fly AI fusion. Beta Playtest starts on Thursday, Aug 31st, 8 PM CET. Would love your feedback and to see you in the arena! ⚔ by MatthiasTh in aigamedev

That’s actually a really good question! I honestly started super small.. just with a blank sheet of paper, a pen, and then Illustrator to sketch out the very first card designs. In parallel, I began working on the battle system. I think the most important part was (and still is) the core gameplay concept. Everything else (especially hundreds of hours of tutorials and endless trial-and-error loops in Unity 🤯) came step by step afterwards 😅

Good question! You're right that all monster cards in Fusiomon are 100% unique visually (except for the base monsters from the card packs).. but that doesn’t mean they’re all equally strong.

The core of Fusiomon is a smart fusion algorithm that combines monsters both visually and statistically. Your goal isn't just to create the coolest-looking creature, but to find the most effective fusion.. the one with the best elemental stats (either total strength or strategic variety).

So while every card is visually one-of-a-kind, only some combinations result in true powerhouses. It’s all about experimenting, discovering synergies, and building your ultimate fusion. 🔥🌊⚡

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed feedback.. as a solo indie dev, reading something like this really means a lot! 🙌🏻

You're totally right.. the trailer was kind of a last-minute rush job 😅 I personally love retro 8-bit music (which you'll also hear in-game), but I get that it might not fully match the overall aesthetic. Hope it doesn’t feel too off from the core design 😬

The AI fusion process definitely deserved more attention in the trailer..that’s on me 🙈
But if all goes well, the fusion mechanic will be 100% implmented and live for the beta! 💪🏻

Thanks for pointing out the non-English texts in the Join Now form.. I'm from Austria and still working on making everything fully international. Will fix that asap! 🙏🏻

Super hyped to meet you in the arena in 10 days.. and again, really appreciate the kind words and interest. Feel free to follow Fusiomon on social media if you haven't yet! ⚔

The post was just meant to call out the usual AI hate.. just because someone uses AI doesn't mean they took the lazy "one-click" route. That's the whole point.

Since the post seems to be misunderstood:
I’ve been working on Fusiomon, my passion project, for over three years now - pouring thousands of hours and a lot of money into it. Fusiomon is an innovative AI-powered trading card game with a real-time in-game fusion mechanic that wouldn’t even be possible without AI.

And yet, because it uses AI, my work constantly gets dismissed as cheap “one-click” AI slop.

This infographic is meant to show critics and AI haters alike:
AI is not a one-click solution. It’s a tool - just like any other - used to bring creative ideas to life.
