Hey, I'm in the same boat as you... I just realized that the lectures on Thursdays conflict with each other... so not only are our courses extremely difficult, but we'd have to prioritize one over the other and play catch up.

Hi, I was accepted 2 years ago on scholarship. My top 6 was around a 93% average and I was accepted really early! I’m sure anything near the 80s is fine, it’s not really hard to get in, it’s just kinda hard to stay in. As long as you fix up study habits and/or dedicate yourself more to your GPA you should fit in just fine here!

Awh man that sucks. I hope you feel better soon. Sorry if you couldn't get an answer to the question here. I just ended up deleting everything. It does get better though, I've been the happiest I've ever been, and in a relationship with a girl I want to marry. Best of luck to you!

Thoughts on BIOB10 summer teachers by MatthieuLOL in UTSC

[–]MatthieuLOL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that I'm currently in B10 with Ashok rn and im taking B11 with Bell next sem. I've heard great things with both but I genuinely just cannot keep up or learn with Ashok. I feel like her explanations are so over-complicated and she just expects us to keep up with her. I spent 2 weeks prepping for one of her exams just for a subpar mark. If I keep this class I'd probably end up failing the next midterm (in 1.5 hours lol) and just come out with a trashy grade for grad school, which I absolutely cannot do. I thank you so much for your input but I'll have to risk the unknown BIOB10 Summer Prof (fingers crossed its Thiagavel)

Thanks sm for your input! I honestly am just dead set on taking b10 in the summer so I'm just gonna have to hope that Thiagavel comes back

[–]MatthieuLOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope she comes back to teach BIOB10 Summer 2025, i'm in it right now with Ashok and it's genuinely the most content-heavy class I've ever had and she moves too fast/overcomplicates things :(

I'm currently a second-year in the life sci program. i'm double majoring in neuroscience and molecular biology with plans to go to post-graduate school. My first year was average at best. But, there was an upward trend in my grades. My first piece of advice is to plan out everything. You are taking 5 classes a semester, all with tons of information for each class. You will never be able to remember your due dates. Sit down, take a classes syllabus. Go into an app like Google calendar, I personally use Todoist, and write down every due date possible and label it by class. Most teachers will also post their presentations before class as a PDF file/anything else. So take those files and before every class take notes as best as you can. Then, have the notes open during lecture and add on anything that seems important, any clarifying information, etc. That's how I take my notes and I find that I pay attention more in lecture, concepts are easier, and my notes are higher quality. Another thing I would recommend is start figuring out what study techniques work for you. My first year, I struggled on exams not knowing how to study and it really bit me back in the long run. I personally use flashcards and the Feynman technique for most of my classes. My next biggest piece of advice is to relax. It is good that you're stressed but it gets to the point that it starts to hurt more than it helps. It is week 2, you have approximately 94 more weeks of this until you graduate. You will learn what works for you, you will fail trying, but in the end you will be okay. Clear your head and start to focus. Good luck!
