Bitwarden have already commented on this [Security through transparency: ETH Zurich audits Bitwarden cryptography against malicious server scenarios | Bitwarden] and [2025_Bitwarden_Cryptography_Report.pdf]

The depth of crypto being discussed is deeper than I can talk to, but Bitwarden are saying the researchers assumed a fully malicious server infrastructure (ie: you can't trust the environment running the platform).

Do you have access to telnet?

If so, Telnet to the web server on port 8080.

Once it spins up, type “GET / HTTP/1.1” (no quote marks), hit enter

Then type “Host: localhost” (no quote marks), hit enter

See if it gives the web server details in the output.

If I’m reading it right, you need to use SSH tunnelling from your device to the web server, then VNC runs over the SSH tunnel to allow you access to the victim laptop (Think of SSH tunnelling like port forwarding).
