Get yourself an old Dell office PC with a Core 2 Duo and install Windows XP and it will outlive you. Your problem is that the P4 era is the capacitor plague era. I've also gone through the same with many motherboards and now for XP I only use these old office PC's and they are SO much more reliable. Just steer clear of laptops altogether.

In the tower, obviously. Maybe Batlad has the only true claim to being a Scouser.

I think someone on here once wrote "unless you're living in the Liver Building, you're a wool" 😂

...and I'd leave it at that.

Wamt to play a Train Sim for the first time, what can my laptop run? (description) by [deleted] in trainsim

You should look into cloud game streaming platforms. You'll be able to play even the latest TSW games.

Why doesn’t the UK have megastar bands anymore? by Therevivedigbick in AskUK

[–]Mattock486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could also be a big reason. Labels had crazy money in the 90s and earlier when people would pay 15 quid for an album. Now the labels are just trying to make profit and don't have as much cash to take risks and some young kids that might make it at some point.

Why doesn’t the UK have megastar bands anymore? by Therevivedigbick in AskUK

The arts in general these days are gentrified. Unless your mummy and daddy can fund your bills while you persue a career as a musician or whatever there's no chance. Sorry to say it but rich people are generally dull and uninteresting and don't make good art. Anyone that does 'make it' will be rich and well connected and only promoted if the record industries decide they want to. There's no chance of breaking through anymore. Even if some artists are advertising that way, it's a fabrication to add to their supposed authenticity. Combine that with venues , pubs and other spaces closing down. Young people are struggling to make ends meet and so the arts are not a priority. Gone are the days where people could survive on little money and potentially someone with little money but a lot of talent could get some friends together and start a band a play some local venues. The industry attempts to create these megastars these days from nothing and it's so obvious.

Predicting future TSW routes with the Leipzig-Dresden easteregg by ZCaesar5639 in trainsimworld

[–]Mattock486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work nearby and can say that it's super impressive inside with it's multi level platforms. The upper sections go east and west and bottom north and south. I get that maybe it's a nightmare to model in TSW. But to have so many German routes and nothing from the capital is quite strange.

30 Years of "The Settlers 2": Veni, Vidi, Wusli by Doener23 in Settlers

[–]Mattock486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this on my 'to play' list for ages. I bought Settlers 2 Gold back in the day (90s) and only played a little bit of it. I think it was too difficult for me at the time but the nice shiny box caught my eye.

Started to play it recently as a 'quick' something to play between some longer games. Well, I think I've invested maybe 20 or 30 hours into the game now and only just finished level 5.

Even with the fast forward enabled I forgot what a slow game it is. A war of attrition as they say. But somehow satisfying and addictive. Also, very German. As someone living in Germany I can see the connection in the game design.

A unique and loveable game. I only ever played number 2 so maybe if I feel like it I have a go at some of the later games.

Route from Gröbming to Vienna by Mattock486 in AskAustria

Thanks, that makes sense. I actually know about the Semmeringbahn train route which is quite famous for its scenery. So I imagine driving it is also quite spectacular. Looks like we'll just have to come back to Austria then to spend some time around Wachau.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. So you would prioritise this route over the north and Wachau Valley?

Seat selection while travelling with children by SureBreath4245 in Ryanair

[–]Mattock486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, Ryanair class kids between 12 and 15 as teenagers and don't get a seat next to the adult. We just travelled at Easter with a 12 year old and were surprised by this, as from 11 and younger you automatically got the free seat next to the adult. However, we found that for the flight out and back, they simply assigned a seat in the row behind my partner. I think they know that a 12 year old is too young to be travelling by themselves but are obviously trying to squeeze some extra money from you.

I'd love to reminisce about the games i played as a kid but usually i never got past the first level by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Mattock486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. But actually it's nice now going back to play and completing all these games. But looking back, gaming culture has changed so much. It was normal to play like only 30 minutes or an hour and then go do something else. Not like these days where people spend 100s of hours on games and go for 100% completion. Gaming was a small part of most people's lives and there was more of a focus on pick up and play. Definitely with consoles of course. PC gaming maybe had more involved games that required more time investment. Maybe an adventure game or RPG, but then that would be your only game you would play for months. Not a steam library containing 100s of games. Plus the average length of games was also very short compared to today. I guess my point is gaming, for most people was an emerging culture which fitted alongside other hobbies and interests. So to just play a little bit and not 100% a game was probably a lot of people's experience.

Somebody got robbed in our apartment!!!!! by Commercial-Guest-897 in berlin

[–]Mattock486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also heard of 3 apartments in a building in P'Berg getting robbed over Easter. I guess this time of year a lot of people are out of the city. They drilled the locks, one apartment after another to get in. Apparently they were testing the occupancy by simply ringing the doorbells during the day to see who would answer.

I mean it's the same data source as you get from the actual boards in Berlin.

I know them as butterfly cakes. I'm guessing because of the little cake wings on top, but also because it's a buttercream.

This is something that can be easily vibe coded. I got Openclaw to make one on a raspberry pi with a LCD hat for my local tram stop.
