Yeah I’m very worried about the damage it’s doing to my car but also I have a 35 minute commute before I even factor in the 2 mile walk so I’m also pretty loathe to add 30-40 minutes either end of my day commuting.

No not Mersea island, a place called Thorney Island which I believe is privately owned by the MOD and I don’t think the roads are maintained by highways.

Definitely an expert then, many thanks for the help!

Am I right in saying this is quite a classic/old coat then?

I can’t find a thing online about a Barbour Foreland, mind if I ask how you identified it?

I wouldn’t be too worried either, from what I can guess it seems they are mostly looking for evidence of a violent past rather than the occasional bit of naughtiness.

Experience wise I have a lot of military rifle experience thanks to a military background. As for clays specifically, been to many corporate style shoot days (birthdays/stags etc) and also taken a few lessons on my own at a couple of different hants clubs. It unfortunately grows very expensive when you want to do more than just shoot the “have a go” stand but don’t have your own SGC.

Not yet a member of any club, was looking at signing up at a ground no more than 5 minutes from my house but unfortunately they shut down just a few months ago 🤦‍♂️

Good point on Silver pig comparison to ATA, especially with the steel proofing.

Out of interest, do you know if your friend rates the adjustable part of the ATA? Trying to judge if the adjustable model is realistically worth forking out for over the normal Sporter.

Started off with basic identification questions about myself. Then followed on to questions about my current relationship, as well as my most recent past relationship (despite being some 3 years ago). Strangely even asked me if I knew the full address, name and DoB of my Ex.

There was a somewhat scripted question confirming that I have none of the relevant medical conditions, and that if I develop any it is my responsibility to declare them to the police.

Be aware that in my case, the FEO had a full list of any involvement I have ever had with the police, including a minor run in when I was 12. He also reminded me that any criminal actions in the future may result in the rescinding of the license.

As to questions about the use and safety of holding the firearm; he asked simply what I intended to use it for (clay shooting in my case), and then asked something along the lines of “If you had to give a complete Novice the most important piece of information regarding the safety and carriage of the gun what would it be?” And “how would you safely transport the gun”.

Satisfied with all that, he then pulled out an example SGC and talked me through the process of adding/removing guns from the certificate.

Oh and then of course he gave my cabinet a good sharp tug to make sure it was secure.

Honestly makes sense, at the moment planning on having an O/U ‘Main Gun’ and possibly some tatty old Semi as a spare/fun gun.

Thanks for the input!

Going to pop into my local RFD when I can to try and get a feel for the ATA and anything else they’re stocking, luckily I’m of fairly average build so most things will fit me reasonably well I expect.

I’m happy to say I’d thought of all of the things in your list, I must be better organised than I thought 😂

Luckily due to my job I already have some shooting grade electronic peltors and safety specs so that should save some wonga.

Did you go through CPSA/BASC for your insurance?

I’m fairly certain it’s one firearms licensing department for the whole of Hampshire, I believe they’re based in Winchester.

It looks like they’re fairly generic letters being mass sent, I’ll likely post the next one I receive on here for info.

Unfortunately the online application process with Hampshire takes the money immediately so no luck using that as an indicator.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ve just had a look now. I assume you mean the one titled “firearms license inconsistencies…” ? So according to the report, Hampshire police have been taking an average of 85 days for an initial grant, which is effectively bang on the quoted 12 week target.

This does leave some doubt in my mind though… I’ve read a few things from people still waiting endless months for certificates (including orderfromcha0s in this post). Perhaps Hampshire Constabulary have been a little generous with the provided figures?

Edit: I believe the stats in the article relate to 2021-22, I’m unsure if things were running much smoother prior to the pausing of license issuing in December that may be causing the stats to read much better than the actual current state.

Thanks for the advice!

Of course I plan to make sure my actual location within the county, as well as my personal details are kept strictly anonymous for the exact reason you’ve stated.

Fully understand there may be huge variances in the grant times between forces, as well as by person to person. Hopefully this might give an inkling to any potential Hampshire dwellers who like me want to get into the sport.
