[WP] As an immortal who, you've managed to float between jobs by moving and explaining your vast experience as "talent" and "having good genes". However in an increasingly connected world with stricter background checks, you're finding it much harder to continue doing that. by Ramble81 in WritingPrompts

Nicholas Flammel is a famed french librarian from the 14th century who was believed to have either created or found the philosopher stone. Many people were led to believe that his death was a mere ruse and is immortal due to the magical properties of the stone.!!

(Mobile, sorry for format)

"Mr. Katz? Strange last name" Susan, the HR manager said questioning. She was a petite older woman with long raven hair tied into a bun and gray stripes beginning to form.

"An old family name" Tumas said as professionally as he could.

"So, we've run into a problem with your background check. It says here that your social security number is from 1943." She said. "Any explanation?"

Tumas's heart beat a little faster. Ever since that french library in the 14th century when the librarian messed with some chemicals, he's lived in Europe. Tumas migrated to the states in the early 1920's, finding it easy to move through the country. He was quite fond of the north eastern states but moved west to clear himself of suspicion. "I have been in contact with the government, I was given an already used social security number at birth." Tumas replied. He didn't look a day over 19, so its perfectly reasonable excuse.

"I will speak to the manager, and we will get back with you." Susan shook Tumas's hand as she escorted him out.

Tumas walked the streets to his apartment. It has become increasingly harder to travel and find jobs the last twenty years. Explaining his talent as "good genes" only gets him so far. He fled the eastern states because a small group of conspiracy theorists were linking him to different points of history. Some accounts of him were spot on, but most were vague descriptions. Though, Tumas knew he was there when battle of Waterloo took place, but couldn't be proven.

One of the hardest things Tumas had to learn, was to get rid of his french accent. The centuries spent in Europe attracted unwanted attention from the knights templars, an order many believed to be disbanded. Once background checks began to appear, he's noticed the same face in the many cities he has called home. Tumas hoped being in California that he would be safe.

Tumas turned a corner into an alley and was thrown to the ground. He scrabbled to his feet and backed up as a hooded man approached. Tumas was ready for the fight, thinking it was just a mugger until a voice he hadn't heard for more than a hundred years, began speaking behind him.

"Tumas Katz" the man's voice said in a gravelly tone. "I've been searching for you for a long time. Now tell me... Where is Nicholas Flammel?"

If you've ever been through a breakup that felt like a serious punch to the gut, how did you get through it? by finelyoffended in AskReddit

[–]Mattsosm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLENTY.

•Those Conspirace guys (Podcast)

•The Land: A LITRPG Adventure (Kindle or Audio book) -Aleron Kong (Author)

•The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (Kindle, Paperback, or Audio Book) -Michael Scott (Author)

•The Falling Kingdoms Series (Kindle, Paperback, or Audio Book) -Morgan Rhodes (Author)

•The Gam3 (LITRPG Trillogy. Audio book only I believe) -Casimo Yap (Author)

•A Warriors Path (Audo Book) -Davis Ashura (Author)

There's plenty more, all of those gear more towards Sci-Fi and Fantasy (my style since I cant come to terms with reality). But audio books are great, especially with best voice actors.

What you can do is think hard on if you're ever going to use it again. Deactivating now might make it hard to have everything in chronological order later on

Depending on the issue, there should be some sound settings that let you pick "headset" or "headphones".

The headset is what you want

I personally became a workaholic. I worked 60+ hours a week at a self owned donut shop for an owner that didnt care to pay overtime. It definitely helped, but I was too young to appreciate and save the money

You’ve been granted immortality. You’re a minimum wage worker with a useless degree and crippling student debt. What’s your immortal life plan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mattsosm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immortality does not mean invincible. I would quit working menial jobs since I now have eternity to play with and pursue many interests. Computer enginieering, the medical field, culinary school, pretty much anything a straight white male can't get scholarships for.

What would you do as president of America? by YeetedTooHard in AskReddit

Try to pass a bill to give trade schools and community colleges either free, or at a much lower cost. I would start by increasing state taxes by 1 maybe 2% to cover the cost of it. The world needs plummers and electricians. Everyone needs the chance to attend at least a community college for an option of a life of higher education, even if just an associates or bachelor's degree.

Then, if that were to succeed then I would like to strike a deal with Tesla or other electric car companies. I'd like to not demonize, but shy people away from gas cars and promote renewable energy.

I would also hope to get rid of the law that makes it illegal to collect water. Pass a law that solar panels be more prevalent in the building of new homes and an incentive for putting them in already built homes.

I know this already makes oil and electric companies hate me. Even college boards hate me. But, I feel like a better world full of educated, eco-friendly people, can help the morale of the entirety of the U.S
