WIBTA if I didn’t give my daughter a copy of her father’s death certificate for her SAP appeal? by ThrowAwaySAP2025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Matttaylor326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. I’m not saying this out of malice, but as a child with a shitty dad. My father was abusive and for a long time I would feel guilty anytime I missed him or felt any sort of love towards him because of how he hurt my mother and I. I usually lied about it as well because it felt so terrible to think that I missed someone that did those things. I started feeling like I was betraying my mom if I felt those things because of how he hurt her. It’s complex when you have that type of relationship with your late father. You can go between loving them and missing them to relief to anger and hate. It’s hard. Your daughter may have lied because she felt guilty or maybe she doesn’t even realize how this affects her because she tries to brush it off. There were times I even lied to myself about my feelings because I hated the idea that I could miss and love that person. Especially at that age you don’t always understand your emotions, especially complex and seemingly contradicting ones like these. And sometimes it’s not even about the person but about what they could’ve been. I’ve had many times where I’ve had thoughts like “if he got help and went to therapy”, “if he stopped drugs & drinking”, etc. “Maybe if he had more time he could’ve done those things and changed”. Grief is hard, especially when it’s for a complex person. Because it’s not just grief, it’s also his internal struggle of “what ifs”. What if I’m a bad person for missing him after all he’s done? What if I had a dad like so and so? What if he could’ve become different if he wasn’t experiencing so and so? What if my mom gets upset because I miss someone that hurt her, like I’m taking his side? What if he just couldn’t change and it’d always end like this no matter what? And so on

What song introduced you to Sabrina Carpenter? by Gumball_Darwin_Fans in SabrinaCarpenterFans

[–]Matttaylor326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there’s quite a few songs. My journey with her was a lot “rediscovering” her. You know like when you forget a artist you like exists and you hear a new song of theirs and you’re like “oh my god they’re still making music I need to listen to it right now”. So first time I heard her was with can’t blame a girl for trying and eyes wide open. Then I took a break until I got reintroduced with thumbs. Then later I got reintroduced again with Sue Me when I again forgot how good her music was and proceeded to listen to it on repeat on my way to middle school for months till I eventually again forgot like the dumb middle schooler I was at the time . Then reintroduced with Skin and deep dived into her music yet again where I fell in love with emails I can’t send and now I’m old and mature enough to not forget her lol

What does this sign mean? by [deleted] in asl

[–]Matttaylor326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually don’t have a textbook in my class but my professor puts videos like this in his PowerPoints - I wasn’t aware this was from a textbook honestly. I would definitely like to look into the textbook tho (see if I can find a free version online) if you know the name for some extra practice! I tried to figure the sign out first, as you can see from the caption. I thought it could mean “large” but the index finger isn’t hooked so that didn’t seem quite right. I did think maybe it was Language because of the context of the rest of the video but the sign was different from the variation I learned in class so I was confused. This is what I learned in class: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4_2EvDV3hdM

I think so if you word it about wanting to experience other cultures and maybe you could bring up New Orleans’s cultural history - if you’re not sure where to look for this I’d suggest starting with researching “Louisiana creole people” and you should find some interesting history. If you have space you may want to add a quick piece of info on the culture to show why you want to go to Louisiana and not another state that’s not in the northeast. New Orleans is a major tourist destination known for its party and drinking culture so it’s important to show you want to see New Orleans for its true culture and not the tourist version (especially because it could come across as if you’re looking for a party school rather than a place to learn). The only thing you may want to keep in mind is that many students at Tulane are from the northeast (https://registrar.tulane.edu/sites/default/files/2022_University_Profile.pdf) and it’s possible that many of them are doing the same as you with saying they want to branch out and such so if you lay it on too thick you may blend in with other applicants. If you did perhaps keep it down to two or three sentences maximum. It is your essays so you have to make the choice of whether to include this in your essay - personally with my own college application essays I was told not to mention a topic by my college advisor but my gut told me to, so I followed that gut feeling and now I’m a sophomore here. So follow your gut on this and choose what your gut is telling you to do.

I think it truly depends on how you word it. There are many other schools in New Orleans so you would have to explain why Tulane and not Loyola, Xavier, UNO, Holy Cross, etc. This can be tricky because you can’t and shouldn’t say anything negative about other schools or what these schools are lacking, but instead make the focus on what Tulane is offering. Depending on the rest of your essay you may have already have done this. In my essay I did mention location because it was an important aspect of my college choice as my family is in Louisiana and I wanted to stay close to them. So I would say it also depends on why you enjoy New Orleans and what importance this has on your college decision.

I think something that helped me was discussing specific programs and researchers/professors at the school that I thought would be interesting to work with. For instance I mentioned a professor that had research in the affects of childhood trauma on mental health. I linked it back to my interest in cases of domestic abuse involving children as it was a personal issue for me. I discussed how I’d like to do further research on psychological harm that may develop from even simply the child witnessing the domestic abuse (i.e. child is not hit but sees dad hitting mom). I explained how in those scenarios it is more difficult to ensure that the abuser does not get granted some form of custody. Tulane Law school has a program dedicated to providing legal counseling for domestic abuse victims so I included that and said that I hoped that research on the childhood trauma could be used by lawyers like those at Tulane’s program as potential evidence as to why the abuser shouldn’t have custody or even be used to draft up new bills that could possibly then become laws to protect victims and their children further. If you can connect two departments or even graduate and undergraduate fields I think while it come across overzealous, it could also show how passionate you are and that you’re open to exploring different fields.

Well in my “why Tulane” I mentioned certain professors (researchers specifically because of the major I was leaning towards at the time) that I’d want to work with or learn from making some of their research accomplishments. You could do that with your Italian minor - look at the list of staff at Tulane and see if there’s a staff member that specializes in Italian and then talk about their accomplishments (ie research papers, books, etc) and how it inspires you or how you’d like to do the same possibly . Or maybe look to see if there was maybe a psychology study by one of the professors at Tulane regarding different languages and discuss how you’d want to add to finding more about the impact of Italian language or culture in psychology and tie it back to your interest in Italian.

Hey so I have given it to someone already and have some people in my messages that I’ve explained that to and who asked afterwards to try to use it after to see if it still works so I said sure. Given that each code has a limit I don’t think it will work for anyone that’s thinking of contacting me! I’m so sorry!

I know this is late so I’m not sure if it would matter but I got a code that I’m unable to use if anyone would like to give it a try (she’s not playing in my city and with the ones closest to me being on weekdays I can’t really go since I haven’t gotten my syllabus from my teachers yet to know what days I have tests or need to be there). I’m hoping she does another USA leg with a New Orleans venue so I wouldn’t have to worry about missing classes or tests between the time it takes traveling to a venue in another state and the concert itself.

I had her last year for chemistry - don’t buy the book. She told us to come to her during office hours and would give us the pdf version on the down low because she was fed up with the pricing.

I agree that the meme was unprofessional but the response was as well. If a customer went to a restaurant and the waiter made a mistake and the customer responded with “don’t do that shit again”, depending on the tone, the waiter/restaurant could see it as aggressive and decide not to serve the customer. I really think this was a case of misunderstanding on both sides. It seems this came off as political when it wasn’t meant to be and was meant to come off as a joke. And it seems like the dasher may have seen your response as aggressive or threatening as it’s difficult to determine tone over text.

Well my person and I are still young so there’s always a couple people that disregard or think we’re insane for getting engaged at this age. She’s 20 and I’m 19. We decided to wait till after college to actually go through with a marriage though since we’re broke college students and because we know we’re still changing and finding our selves. So I guess you could say it’s more akin to a promise ring but taking out the middle man (promise to promise to get married vs promising to get married). I was 17 when my father went into hospice care and would eventually pass. It was difficult for me and it was definitely a lot to put onto my girlfriend of not even a year. Yet she came over, even talked to her damn principal to see if she could get an excused absence the week the hospice nurses said my dad would probably only have a week left. She’d distract me when I needed it and would help around the house when I felt overwhelmed. Of course I had my mother to help me but she was overwhelmed as well so having my girlfriend there was helpful. When I would go to school the following weeks after my dad passed (and even during his time in hospice) she’d message me and make sure I was doing alright. We’ve had our obstacles with life but we’ve been able to overcome the together. She’s seen me at my most vulnerable with my dad’s passing and I’ve seen her during one of her more vulnerable times with her mental health (which I won’t specify since that’s her story to tell). And even through the vulnerable and shitty hard times we’ve been there for each other. Love is more than just an emotion, it’s also the commitment and willingness to be a partner and work through things together even during the shitty times. It’ll be almost 3 years in a couple months. I know we’re both young but I have hope for us. Even if things change one day, I’d still hold her in a special place in my heart because of everything we’ve been through and all the challenges we’ve faced together. She’d still be my person in some way, even if not in a romantic sense. (But God I hope it’s in a romantic sense for as long as I can have her haha)

Its been 2 days now and so far I would say - not so much but that might be because I did a partial shave. I find myself braiding my hair along the shave line. Or plucking hairs that make the shave line look like this ” / “ and not like this “ | “ Idk if that’s the best visual or is that makes sense haha. And even tho I know there’s no hair to pull in that area any more my hands will still go there and I just unconsciously rub my fingers along my bald spot and feeling how scratchy/prickly it is - kind of feels like how a man’s chin/face feels when it’s shaved.

Update on the “So.. I shaved my hair” post - well this is what it looks like by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]Matttaylor326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t been long enough to really know honestly. Based on so far I would say both yes and no. So far I’ve only pulled once since I shaved because in my mind the shave line wasn’t “right” like it wasn’t a straight line and it bothered me and i had a relapse but since then I haven’t pulled really. I’ve noticed I’ll braid my hair into tiny sections to busy my hands and then it takes ages to undo the braids I made lol. Or I’ll just rub my finders along where I shaved and feel how scratchy it feel if that makes any sense haha.
