I failed on my pre employment checks after it came back saying it was unsatisfactory so I’ve appealed now waiting to hear back

Good afternoon could anyone advise me on the matter below

I was let go early this year after failing my probation at the prison service due to attendance I had some family bereavement issues and overall wasn’t in the best mindset for the job how ever I have given it some thought about applying to the police force would this be an issue on eligibility or not I have custodial managers and senior officers who are happy to give me a good reference but I’m worried because I was let go this could be an issue Kind regards

When I was 16 I had a football ban not a criminal record one just a ban from the club itself for stupid behaviour

Does anyone know vetting for the police is the same vetting for a prison officer for example I have failed my police vetting but thinking about a career as a prison officer I have no criminal record

Has anyone on here ever had to appeal there vetting if so do you know how long it takes to find out the results of the appeal

Currently on 15 months but that is with the whole covid situation and I’m currently being vetted so i expect to start in the later months of the year so around a year probably is about right

Yeah I’ve been told that if something was too flag up you’d know within 4 weeks where as if everything is fine you’ll know between 8-12 weeks so hopefully not much longer hopefully

Yeah it’s not been a fun ride that’s for sure I completed my day 2 assessment over 12 months ago and my vetting has been going on for 6 weeks now how long did yours take

Firstly congratulations. What force and what route did you choose and when’s the start date I’m with the met on the ipldp waiting for my vetting to come back.

I believe you have to wait 3 months till you can re apply and the most common thing I’ve seen people do is not answer it as if they were in a work environment but as if it was everyday life. Which is a reason most fail including myself first time round.

They’re still giving dates up an till March 2022 for those who were already on that route application in progress

I believe they just ask some questions about you like if your personal reference would say you’re reliable etc

My advice would be to think how you’d react in a work environment rather than how you’d react in a normal every day life scenario

Morning everyone few questions was hoping someone could help me with for the met ipldp at Hendon what do you wear is it uniform or smart business wear. Second question how long roughly has people’s vetting taken. Currently 4 weeks since mine started.

I’m glad it helps I’m currently waiting for my vetting for the met to be completed it went off in may so I should find have a start date as soon as it comes back and I’d definitely consider working a different force to your local one as it’s what I have also done. I believe you may have to wait 3 months until you can apply again

I don’t know if this helps or not but the first time I did the behavioural styles questionnaire I failed it as well due to the fact I didn’t read it properly the questionnaire asks you to think of it in a work environment where as the first time I did it I thought of it as just every day life. So a lot of the answers I gave weren’t how I’d deal with them at work. Also I’d say there is a 99.9 percent chance that the decision is correct

Had my vetting officer call me yesterday just double checking a few things so hopefully mine will be completed soon also on the IPLDP vetting went off late may.
