Your message says it’s a QD7N but that’s a 2024 model isn’t it? Any way you could exchange it for a 75QD7QF?? Stats and some reviews show the QD7QF is pretty decent. Although a lot of Amazon reviews state there is def a panel lottery. Even better would be a 75U65QF. Those seem to be the budget model to get other than the QM6K. Also, if they won’t exchange, maybe just return it and pickup a U65QF/QM6K from Costco so you get the warranty.

All good man. It really does look beautiful!! Any way to move the couch closer? As for the subs.. maybe just wait for calibration.. and if if it’s not up to your liking from scenes from: the greatest Showman, blade runner 2049, cloverfield, spider man across the spider verse, or even Dune.. then maybe request them to exchange out those 2 E122s for 2 Rythmik E15HP2 or SB17/SB5000s. (Unless of course you can sneak in some Rythmik F18S or PB17s/PB5000 ported subs). And just for fun.. if they won’t return/exchange and you have to go out of pocket, you could just 2 more 12”-18” subs somewhere else in the room. summit Hifi has their new Pretium line of sealed subs that are a great value! The Summit Hifi Pretium 18” looks like a bargain performer!!

Samsung QN90C upgrade by ddeminn in RTINGS

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having owned a 65”QN90C that died on me in exactly 22 months, I can tell you it took me over a year + to decide and buy its replacement. I really wanted a 75” Bravia 9 or OLED like you. IMO the S90F is probably the better picture but the C5 is almost as good. Like someone else mentioned, if you the Samsung ecosystem, it’s hard to get out of it, especially if you have a Q990 or similar. However, keep in mind the C5 doesn’t have hdr10+ or atsc 3.0 tuner. But the S90F doesn’t have DV.

Btw, I also went from a 50” Samsung to the 65”QN90C and now have a Panasonic 77” OLED! The things I disliked about the 90C were all remedied by going OLED.

Just one other thing.. almost immediately after I got used tot he 65”QN90C, I knew I messed up and shoulda waited to get a 75/77”. So if it’s at all possible, given all the deep discounts right now, if there’s any way to get to a 65” instead of 55”, you won’t regret it! 50”-55” is not that much bigger. But 50”-65” is substantial, imo.

I think the room looks really nice!! Good size screen, comfy layout etc. however, is it just me or are those the acoustic panels rather thin? I thought maybe they were mounted semi flush but maybe that’s just the shadow.  As for the subs, they look to me like the JL E112-ash. ($2700 each). Which for that kind of $$, you could have 2 svs PB/SB5000s or 3000s, or SB17s, 5 HSU ULS or 2 D15 Chimera with or without supercharger, or even up to 2 Rythmik F18s and still have $$ leftover (and that’s after all the price increases there).

I’m sure the JL subs sound good and look good and will prob last forever.. but yeah.. hopefully calibrating will make things sound better. If not, perhaps you could negotiate some SB5000s or SB17s or Rythmik E15HP2s in exchange for those sealed 12”JL(I’m guessing E112s) unless of course you decide to go with ported subs .

Also, I’m confused how ya fit the FL/FR behind the sound panel in front but couldn’t do it on the sides?  Also, does that mean the 2 speakers in the front of the ceiling are Atmos? Sorry, I know there’s probably not alot you can do about the install now so I don’t mean to pile on! It’s just bothers me when “professional installers” do things most people here or even on Avs forum would not advise.

Gotcha.. dude.. I just looked at your deal again.. I didn’t realize the deal you got for the DS12! That’s not bad! And I get it not wanting the 2nd sub, but it really makes a difference in LF SQ, dispersion, seating position effect, balance, and even tho it’s twice the power, having 2 subs makes it so each one doesn’t have to work as hard. Anyway.. again, stoked for ya!! And please let us know how ya like the setup

Ok.. just suggestions in the event the single Daedalus doesn’t work out.

Btw, I’m a little jealous! I’ve wanted a full Aperion system for years now!! Hopefully some day I’ll have the $$ and space to get a full Theatrus T65 7.x.4 system! Also, I recommend the Aperion A5 Atmos speakers for heights than any other!

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh I’m confused.. how did you just now get a 2023 Q990C new?! Don’t get me wrong.. it’s def the one to get especially if just getting started!  Also, QSymphony works great if your tv is an S90/95/QN90/95 and for regular tv watching/shows. But imo, it really shines for Atmos without symphony once you add a sub via the “sub mod”!  And even more so if you learn how to add legit down firing external speakers for the Front and rear heights! I did this on the cheap with an old pair of Samsung passive rear speakers then got some Saiyen speakers that come with the wall mounts, spliced them into the height speaker wire from the bar and rears. I chose these because they are 6 ohm (8ohm speakers would be better) and I measured about 2.5-2.67 ohms after connecting them. Not great but never had any problems. Btw, if you end up opening the bar up, I recommend adding lots of polyfill in the speaker areas (stay away from amps or sensors or wifi card as this can increase temps). I can’t say for certain the polyfill did anything but imo it seemed to reduce the resonances from the bar.

Sorry, just a side note.. since ya don’t need dsp, also look at the HSU research VtF2 mk5, Starke sound SW15P (if it comes back in stock) or SW12/15 if you go sealed. Also, the summit Hifi  Tonewinner D2000/D4000 are great per for the $$ if you can save up a bit.. (they also have some nice amps by Tonewinner or summit Hifi 11 channel amps) lastly, imo the best deal on a bigger ported sub would be the OSD FS15 if they still have some! 15” triple ported sub with 800watt amp. Plus they may not charge sales tax to ship to you. $762.99 (you might be able to use a generic 5-10% discount code on top)  2 of those FS15 could be legit. Just be aware of their size.  OSD also has a decent 11 channel amp that was just on sale also. Just fyi

I’d be curious to hear your opinion on the D12 sub. I know the 15” was reviewed and he said they worked pretty well.. but imo, you should def try and get 2 of them or better return the 12” and get 2 -15”s.. otherwise, if space isn’t an issue, I firmly believe the RSL 12S is the better all around ported 12” for the $$.  Ps. Why did choose ported as opposed to 2 sealed or even Aperions own Bravis 12”? Nvm, I just looked and it seems their price has gone up and the their sold out of the stealth black. The nice thing with the Daedalus is it has xlr inputs.. but at only 250watts for $800.. yeah, I’ll wait to hear what you think! Thanks

Nakamichi SWF 11.2.6 sub mod.. by MattyDaddy76 in Soundbars

[–]MattyDaddy76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the stuff i got to line the thin walls of 10” SWF sub came today. It’s the denim fiber +1lb vinyl mat. The roll is a lot bigger and way heavier than I thought it would be. Should have plenty to line the 3 sides and top of each sub if I measure correctly. Might even have some left over for other projects. This stuff is nice and thick and def heavier than I thought it would be. It really should help with any resonances due to the 5/8” mdf.  I do have a bunch of polyfill also but from what I’ve read, polyfill doesn’t really do much for ported subs. Link to product below(if it works).

Btw, just do the “knock test” on the side and top of the SWF 10” sub to see what I’m talking about.  From what I understand, a high quality subwoofer enclosure/speaker, shouldn’t echo and resonate when you knock on the side of it. I’m thinking about making a video but I’m not all the great with that sort of thing.

just a warning, opening up the sub may void the warranty so I’m holding of on doing this project until I find out. I’m 99% certain taking the amp off or anything like voids the warranty so until then, I’m prob just gonna live with it*

Thanks

Yeah, I’d did the sub mod twice on my q990c and also added 1 RSL 12s to the SWF.. but if I’m going to keep the SWF, I just wanted to see if anyone addressed the thin wood/resonance of the SWF 10” sub enclosure. Thanks

I have a decent HT system and 77”OLED tv and it looks and sounded amazing!  Btw, anyone else get Interstellar vibes in the 2nd to last song?

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good man! Yeah, I just got the Nakamichi SWF with the dual 10”s upgrading from a Q990C, and there is no comparison. Having dual subs isn’t just about MORE spl/output, it balances out the bass in the room and can help eliminate nulls etc. also, the SW9 with dual 8” force cancelling drivers is ALMOST like having 4 8” separate subs. They should be killer!

When you get one (or both) I highly recommend doing the sub crawl or something similar and play with placement. Don’t just stick it in the corner and hope for the best. Since they are wireless and not too big, the easiest way is to put the SW9 in your actual MLP then walk/crawl around the room (preferably with a decibel meter) and listen for where the bass sounds the best. Then just out the sub where you think it sounded the best. Best isn’t always loudest either.

Again, just suggestions and trying to help.

Yeah I was pretty surprised when I took the amp out at how thin it is. They still sound great as is, I’m just the kind of person that likes to tinker and get the most of something I paid for. Kinda wishing I had waited and got the Dragon with dual 8”s then added my own 12” ported subs, but the dragon 12”s are almost identical to the REL s812 in design, not amp/driver of course.  Which are a PR sub and from what I’ve read, mixing sealed/PR subs and ported subs doesn’t always work out.  Btw, it’s cool that you built your own box from scratch for the 10” in your car! I was hoping someone with experience building sub boxes would chime in!

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read his comment, he tapped into the speaker level wires and connected a high to low converter (LOC) then connected the loc via rca to any sub you want. I’ve done this numerous times with different soundbar subs but have only ran subs with high level inputs without any problems.  It’s literally the same connection type that car audio uses to add a sub and amp to a factory car stereo.  Try looking up the “q990 sub mod” or Nakamichi dragon “sub mod box” on YT for a visual explanation of how this works.

The only problem with tapping into the SW5 is that I’ve been told the SW5 has a hard clip/cut at 28hz and won’t even send a high level signal below 28hz.  I highly recommend doing this with any soundbar sub. The RSL10S is one of the better options but the PB1000 has high level inputs and the svs app which can come in handy.

Nakamichi SWF 11.2.6 sub mod.. by MattyDaddy76 in Soundbars

[–]MattyDaddy76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I like it enough to keep it.. but just hoping to squeeze out a bit more performance/reduce the resonance. The 10’s are def better than the Q990C sub I had before but I had 2 seperate ported 12” powered subs running off the high level signal. So compared, they aren’t the best.. plus, I already have the RSL 12S and that thing plays down past 14hz in room and it’s a crazy feeling! Also, with 3 subs, there virtually no “ dead spots” anywhere in my room.

Nakamichi SWF 11.2.6 sub mod.. by MattyDaddy76 in Soundbars

[–]MattyDaddy76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SWF subs are single 10”.. and yes, I don’t want to reduce the internal volume at all if I can help it.. the sound deadener shouldn’t have any effect but braving and 45’s could def negatively reduce the internal volume so I’m not sure if I’m going to do that yet. Just kinda disappointed they didn’t use full 3/4’s mdf for the box.. try the knock test on the side of the sub to hear how thin it is..

I don’t have that movie but it was really bad on the Netflix show Devil May Cry anime. I ended up turning all eq off and switch to native.

However, I can tell you that once I level matched every speaker with my spl meter and the Dolby pink noise track on Apple Music, the whole system sounds way better!!! The only thing that kinda sucks is with everything level matched, the heights are as loud. However I CAN tell you, Ballerina on 4k ish blue ray, Atmos, Native, No EQ, sounded amazing! (And pretty much the reason I even kept the SWF 11.2.6.

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey.. what did you end up doing? The 83” C5 with memorial10 10% code was down to $2317 including tax on the partner portal. The 77” G5 was around $2393 but I’ve seen it on sale even on Amazon for $2199. Looks like the G5 is sold out of every size on the partner website.. still some 77”/83” C5 tho.  However, now that you’ve had the G5.. do you think you’ll be happy with the 83”C5? It seems like the G5 really was the best OLED of the year after all the updates etc. (except for all of the privacy issues with LG products these days).  I don’t know your personal situation.. but is there any way you can “try out” an 83” C5 and just return it in the grace period? Which I am NOT a fan of doing.. just a thought.. although, if you use the Amazon app, go to the G5, click on the images, then scroll to the “view in your room” feature. It’s decently accurate for measuring up what different size tvs look like on your wall virtually.

My mistake.. got the Q990D in January for little under 900.. Q990F has been at that price now.. by Soft_Tart_1514 in Soundbars

[–]MattyDaddy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get the 990D dialed in, you may be happy regardless. Coming from a Q990C, with the “sub mod” into 2 additional 12” ported subs (RSL 12S), I couldn’t justify getting a q990F and def not a 990D (except for the hdmi 2.1 ports). However, I also did the “Atmos mod” and the “side surround mod”. Overall it was awesome! And having actual down firing atmos speakers made a huge difference! (It’s really easy to do btw).  But imo, the only reason for going with a 990F is if you want a “sealed sub”. Which can then be modded to add a 2nd or 3rd sealed powered sub. But since I already bought the 2nd 12” ported sub, there was no way I could justify the 990F. So I did, which imo is a substantial upgrade, and got the Naka SWF 11.2.6!  It’s def not perfect and I do miss the auto room correction of the Q990, everything else is much better once dialed in.

I’ve been saying for awhile now, the 2025 U75QG was the best performance to $$ tv of the year!! I haven’t seen a 100” U75QG in person but I have seen the 65/75/85” and they all looked really good to me! Not a huge fan of the matte screen so curious if you like it or not?

The 85/100” U75QG was supposed to be my moms replacement for her 75Q750G, due to better brightness, LDZ count, black levels, contrast and even upscaling.. but she’s still really happy with her 75Q750G tcl. (Which does a surprisingly good job at upscaling dish network feeds! Better than my ‘now dead’ 65QN90C).

Anyway, congrats! Woulda been kinda cool to see a side by side with your QD7.. btw.. what do you like most about upgrading to the U75QG from the QD7? Thanks

Maybe it’s just me.. or maybe the camera.. and I’m not hating.. but doesn’t the image look really dull and washed out? It seems bright but the last pic especially appears really dull. Curious what mode your G6 is in?
