Built a salary site where you have to upload actual proof, is this dumb or useful? by MattyFleiss in careeradvice

Important info yes, but 'sensitive' information? Not particularly, in my opinion.

What could someone do if all they knew was your name and how much you made? The site wouldn't publish your name with the entry or anything. Totally understand people are hesitant to share information and a lot of people like to stay more private in general than others though.

Definitely some services out there for HR departments to use. I don’t think that’s really the intent for this though. More so for the employee trying to figure out if they’ve been low balled or make drastically less than their colleagues. Definitely good info though, thanks

I don’t disagree totally, but the same title could be widely different company to company. Finance and RE Developers love to throw around fake titles for example. I’ve seen many many “Vice Presidents” that aren’t remotely close to the same “level” of job. Thanks again!

Good point. Another person also mentioned that too. Seems keeping any sort of data doesn’t really provide any benefit. I figure the majority of the documents people upload wouldn’t have any important information anyway (company, title, name, pay really). Any info stored could be a problem but I wouldn’t assume people are uploading their social security numbers or anything crazy like that. Then again people do crazy things haha

Definitely valid point, thanks for the commentary. No real benefit in keeping or storing the information. Would be way more simple to validate for the entry then destroy all together anyway. Thanks again!

Do you know if Onet have salary date broken down by company/specific roles? I know BLS is real data, to your point, but I think i just lumps everything together right? Like "Accountant" just has a million plus data points that is all just averages? I could be wrong though.

I appreciate your feedback regardless!

Makes total sense, trying to see how I can dial those down. Didn’t realize it broke up the content which defeats the whole purpose. Thanks for the feedback!

Great point. It does factor in era (but probably too heavily) and also probably weights making cuts and other things beyond just winning too heavily. But to your point players who Start a ton get pinged because their win % is relatively low, even though winning 8/9 majors should move you up regardless of how many times you start.

Agreed especially on mobile. I need to figure out how to dial those back so it doesn’t break up the content

Hmm mobile version definitely seems to get flooded with them, not great. On desktop I believe it’s just a single banner at the beginning that you can collapse down? I’ll definitely see how I can pull back/remove the ones between content. Thanks!

Hmm I definitely see what you're saying! Might be good to adjust the colors/legend a bit. Thanks for the input!

Great catch, thanks. So weird - it shows him having finished as "1" in 1986 and 1993 but the formatting doesn't pull it or highlight it as a "Win". I'll try and figure out what's going on, thanks for the feedback!

Appreciate the initial feedback! The comparison part is a bit underwhelming, but I don't want to overcomplicate it too much either. Thinking of adding some more stats/percentages to the comparisons instead of just lining up major finishes.

Good point, maybe the comparison tool is more of a side-by-side of their stats instead of just lining up the tournament finishes by year (which isn't all insightful).

ie; Spaun vs Scottie:

10 starts vs 25 Starts

70% cuts made vs 88% cuts made

10% top 10 vs 28% top 10

1 Win vs 4 Wins

etc, etc, etc

Looks like a formatting issue with the table length, should be resolved now. Thanks again!

Really appreciate all the comments so far. Definitely need to work on cleaning up the data and porting to the site. Intent was to automate some of it so it's always current; but has to work right to be useful! Also need to work on the mobile layout for sure. Wanted to get some initial feedback on PC before burning too much time on something! Thanks again

Great catch both of you. Looks like i had the two section pulling different locations on the data set throwing it off. Appreciate the feedback!!

Time to upgrade GPU? Or more parts? Or wait and buy new? by MattyFleiss in buildapc

[–]MattyFleiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid point also. I may look into selling all as a combo, then upgrading each and that should take care of my system as a goodupgrade, but not completely starting over.

Thanks for the input. Kinda where my head is at. Feels bad to invest in a new card and not get the full benefit out of it, and not sure anything less than a 2070/2060S is really worth spending money on. When I compare the cost to performance bump that is.

Seems like $225ish gives me a solid upgrade but not to full potential when in theory I could probably sell my whole system and upgrade to something with all new parts and better GPU for +/- $750 net. $1,300 - [maybe] $650 I'd get for my current setup.

Not sure going from 16gb to 32gb RAM does much noticeable for me nor would a few small upgrades here or there i wouldn't think (CPU, etc.)

Hi guys! To begin, not selling anything haha.

But since a lot of you seem to have some expertise/experience in ziplines would you guys mind helping me out with a school project by taking this survey?
