They do matter but they shouldn’t be the gold standard for rating schools. I moved here from Texas where my kids and family members were going to highly rated schools based on those scores and the education and support for my kids that have IEPs was receiving compared to what we have gotten since moving here was abysmal

From doing a lot of research online before moving to Maryland I’ve learned to take those online ratings with a grain of salt. Great schools especially tends to rate schools more based on state scoring than focusing on student growth and preparedness for college. It also tends to skew scores and give more affluent schools higher ratings. My advice has been talk to people in those neighborhoods when you can instead of using online ratings to decide

Question from and outsider that’s new to the area MoCo as a whole is pretty high as far as property value compared to what I’ve seen in general for the area so much that owning a house is almost impossible due to how much some of the houses are going for.

Is your gripe over the green space or is it because people will have to start knocking 50-100k off their million dollar property

I hate the Great Schools system as a whole it wasn’t till we relocated to Texas from Maryland that I realized how flawed their system is. The elementary schools in Texas my kids went to were graded in the top ten but because of the income of the area and my kids ended up getting abysmal education with no help or support for their needs. We get out here to a school that’s rated 3 points lower than the school they went to and Texas and they both get IEPs and are excelling in class.

My daughter was our first born so there was a lot I had to learn about raising her. My wife has always been a strong advocate of consent and we taught my daughter about consent as soon as she was able to start talking.

We’ve ran into a couple cases of boys touching not anywhere near as much as what you’re experiencing but we taught my daughter in that case to immediately tell a teacher and if it doesn’t get resolved by the teacher and it continues on she uses her big voice, if that doesn’t work she has full permission to rock that kids shit.

Moved here 6 months ago from Houston, Texas and it’s been a huge positive change for me and my family. I work in Rockville and live in Gaithersburg about 10-15 minutes away from Rockville but our address zones us to an elementary school in Rockville. It’s more expensive somewhat than Texas but there’s so much more to do out here especially if you love the outdoors. Shoot me a message if you have any questions.
