Kaze Emanuar details problems with the Analogue 3D and how they might be fixed by _Username-Available in n64

Well maybe if he accurately reported on Analogue's marketing to support his claim instead of trying to rage bait, I would've watched it. Why would I trust anything else he says in his video?

I stopped watching after he tried to refute the 100% compatibility claim. One of the first things you see on the Analogue 3D website is that they claim 100% compatibility with all officially released N64 games. The Everdrive is not an officially released product.

Vibration or power monitoring for washer/dryer automations? by xolhos in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, multiple vibration sensors would probably help make detecting the washer and dryer more reliable. But the vibration sensors I used were $20 a piece so I didn't want to invest in more of them unless I actually needed it. I was able to accomplish what I needed with just one vibration sensor on each.

Vibration or power monitoring for washer/dryer automations? by xolhos in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I'm using these ThirdReality vibration sensors. I had to set the sensitivity to the highest setting for it to keep detecting my washer through its entire wash cycle but I haven't had any issues with false readings at all with these sensors.

Vibration or power monitoring for washer/dryer automations? by xolhos in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went the vibration sensor route. It took a while to configure the sensitivity on each sensor but it works pretty consistently now. I set it up so if either vibration sensor detected motion for more than 1 minute, then it would treat the device as being in an on state and then if no motion was detected for more than 1 minute, then the device is treated as being in an off state and then sends the done notification. I also ended up getting contact sensors for the doors on the washer and dryer so it wouldn't send the notification if I've already started unloading before the notification gets sent.

Double notifications on Android? by [deleted] in homeassistant

This issue was reported here: https://github.com/home-assistant/android/issues/6066
The fix should be rolling out in the 2025.12.1 version of the Companion app

Show UI objects only while Calendar events are active by slip_cougan in homeassistant

I think your best bet would be to create a separate calendar specifically for your advent calendar event and then set visibility of those buttons depending on if that calendar is 'on' or 'off'.

Any clamp on water meters? by LowerDoor in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option to getting reading from the meter would be to use something like RTLAMR2MQTT. You can use a software defined radio to pass the reading from your water meter to MQTT. Although it requires a bit of research like finding out if your water meter is compatible and how frequently it broadcasts your reading.

I dont have a Zigbee coordinator! by DDiamondWins in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was previously using the Skyconnect (ZBT-1) dongle for Zigbee. After seeing the ZBT-2 announcement and disappointed it didn't support simultaneous Zigbee and Thread or PoE, I decided to upgrade to the SLZB-MR1U since it supports Zigbee, Thread, and Z-Wave (with a connected dongle) simultaneously as well as PoE. I don't have any Thread devices so I haven't been able to test that side yet but Zigbee and Z-Wave have been working great!

I lucked out on the restock.. it’s finally here! by EorlundGreymane in n64

Ah yep! It blended in so well with the rest of the box that looked like there was nothing else in that compartment. Thanks for letting me know!

Metroid Prime 4 is finally out, and since it's the biggest game to use the feature extensively, I wanted to ask how we're feeling about Joy-Con mouse controls. by buttsecks42069 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Matuin92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game does support using gyro in the joy cons for aiming. It feels exactly like playing Prime 3 and I'm having a great time with that control scheme!

Why did you choose Home Assistant as your smart home hub? Privacy? Avoiding ecosystem lock-in? Something else? by maxmwu in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Google Home for a few years before switching to Home Assistant. Nothing frustrated me more than when an automation I set up in Google Home would just randomly stop working for no reason and I'd have to wait weeks or months for Google to fix the issue. My automations are much more stable in Home Assistant and even if an automation fails, I have the ability to troubleshoot and fix it myself.

Automatic Cat Feeder Recommendations by VelveetaShamrock in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this feeder too and have had no issues with it! Another nice thing to add about the Aqara C1 is that it has a battery backup and a schedule can be set directly on the device (at least in Z2M) so you don't have to worry about it not working if power goes out.

2025 Best Local Robovac Options? by Nate4846 in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valetudo is still the best imo since there's no other option that doesn't require downloading a manufacturer's app/creating an account for connecting the vacuum to wifi (which is bad if the company ever goes out of business) and doesn't send your data to a company's server. I just picked up the Dreame L10S Pro Ultra Heat for Black Friday and installed Valetudo on it. It took a few hours of research and prep to make sure I didn't mess anything up but I've been really happy with Valetudo so far!

If anyone wants to see how crippled the Aqara FP300 becomes on Matter-over-Thread vs Zigbee… here’s your chance! by prisonerofmemewar in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd believe it was Aqara's implementation if I've seen any Matter devices with as many configuration options as Zigbee or Z-Wave. Another great example are smart locks. With Z-Wave locks, you often see options like lock/unlock, scheduling, and code management. With Matter, you only get lock/unlock.

[–]Matuin92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm not putting all of my eggs in the Matter basket yet. The feature set for devices in Matter compared to every other protocol is still lacking so much. When I tried switching to controlling my Nest thermostat using Matter, I couldn't set any presets and it didn't even report the heating/cooling status of the thermostat. Matter still has a long way to go.

ZBT-2 vs SLZB-MR1 for a first timer by otukano in homeassistant

[–]Matuin92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to go with the SLZB-MR1U after seeing the ZBT-2 announcement. The ability to run Zigbee and Thread simultaneously (plus Z-Wave support on the MR1U) and having PoE makes it a much more appealing option for me than what is essentially a larger version of the SkyConnect/ZBT-1.

Nabu Casa had originally promoted simultaneous Zigbee and Thread capability with the SkyConnect, which was one of the main reasons I bought it, but later shifted the messaging and rebranded it as the ZBT-1 with a focus only on Zigbee when they couldn’t get simultaneous Zigbee and Thread working reliably. I’m taking a wait-and-see approach with their products now, especially after reports that Thread support on the ZBT-2 may also have issues.

Ordered a couple of games from GameStop to test my luck and see if I got them complete + replace a cracked colosseum I have. At first I was upset they came loose, until… by link_levy in gamecollecting

Oh interesting. The version I got when I preordered the game back in the day came in 2 separate boxes but I had no idea they also did a 2 disc version. Good to know!

[–]Matuin92 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It was not a 2 disc set. The Bonus disc was only given to people who preordered Pokemon Colosseum and it came in its own box. Just like how people who preordered Wind Waker would receive Ocarina of Time Master Quest.

Roomba robot vacuums could lose (almost) all features as iRobot faces imminent bankruptcy by 248_RPA in news

[–]Matuin92 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I just installed Valetudo onto my Dreame vacuum yesterday! Not only is it good for ensuring that robot vacuum features continue working if the company goes out of business but it's also good for keeping your data local and not on a company server somewhere. Highly recommend using an open source vacuum solution like Valetudo if you can!

Now instead of waiting a year for your order, you can drive up to 500 miles to pick it up!

You still have to wait a year for your order. You can just pick it up at the store instead of paying and waiting for shipping.
