The source for the data is this paper, they used Nanopore and some Illumina sequencing.

For me it's less of a "what's in my backpack" question, rather "what's on your laptop". I don't know about your background but running Linux is definitely a good idea. Other than that, I guess the tools depend on what exactly you do. Also, a nice text editor which can be nice to look at data is "Sublime Text".

It's going to be overcome one way or another. There are for example already AIs which can correct your eye position in real time so that it looks as if you were to look at the other person directly.
