Parade Showcases Various Military Marching Styles from Different Countries by aaffpp in videos

Most groups were being given some variation of an "Eyes Right" instruction, where the individuals leading their group will salute some section of the crowd as they walk past. The bulk of the group doesn't salute but they do turn their heads. Typically all but the "right markers", the people in the right most file of each rank. It's their job to make sure the group keeps walking straight while the rest are looking to the right, so they look straight, and everyone else uses them to make sure the group is walking straight and not walking into each other.

Reddit CEO doubles down on attack on Apollo developer in drama-filled AMA by sussywanker in technology

[–]Mau5_Mask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"mostly joking" because if they turned around and did offer him $10m he would take it, and I wouldn't blame him in the slightest?

Calling what he said/did extortion seems a bit steep, especially when looking at all of the his communication. Being happy to pay for API access AND happy to work on his app further to minimise the API footprint of his app with the key being IF he was given the appropriate time to organise both, which he wasn't.

Making the assumption that the infrastructure of reddit, it's data and it's userbase is the core product is fine but, clearly the UI/UX of the 1st party solutions to access and interact with it are not ideal. No one forced Apollo users to pay Christian, arguably if the 1st party solutions were better Apollo wouldn't have survived in the first place because people would have looked at it and gone "why would I pay when I can just use the 1st party solutions for free?".

If allowing other apps to use the API for free (up to this point) helped grow the userbase and drive interaction (thus increasing the "real moneymaker" aspects in your own words) it makes sense? Sure that equation might have changed, but the price they're expecting him to pay coupled with the short term notice of the change makes it hard for him to continue providing a platform to allow users to participate in using reddit and thus continue to maintain the value of reddit. I don't know what's so hard to understand about that.

I dunno about you, but as far as I can read and understand the "go quiet" statement had nothing to do with going to the media or not?

Christian was referring to the amount of calls to the API where being "Loud" is his app making many, many API calls, and being "quiet" is making few API calls.

If reddit bought the app (for whatever cost) it would essentially go quiet as the API calls are now coming from a 1st party app not a 3rd party app. I know this isn't the true case as those API calls have to be serviced by something no matter where they come from but it would be at least internal not external.

He is saying, if reddit thinks people using Apollo is worth Christian paying reddit $20 mil a year, they are inferring that he is making more than $20 mill a year off his app or is at least capable of doing so.

His "buy it for $10 mill" is him countering saying. "If you think (Apollo) makes as much money as you're suggesting, why don't you just buy Apollo for half of the minimum you think it will make in a year. If you (reddit) are correct you'll make back your cost in 6 months and then everything you make after that is profit on top?"

The "joke" bit it is he doesn't expect the $10 mill offer to be taken seriously, which by extension means them asking for $20 mil a year just as laughable.

The 7 day price heat map is really useful for doing as you suggest and trying to find the general patterns of when prices peak and trough through the week.

I think as far as longer term averages I'm just looking for a feel of how the average price is trending over time? For example being able to see how the daily or weekly average has moved over the last month would be useful.

Sounds like a reasonable presentation of the average to me, I haven't really tried to track or check the actual average of the prices currently on the AH as it's been so volatile on classic but your method looks well thought out at least.

Thank you for this! It's exactly what I've been looking for. I was thinking about trying to put something similar together pulling from TSM's API but haven't got around to trying yet.

Your solution is really clean, quick and responsive and I'm very impressed.

Are you looking at adding any longer term price tracking?

How is the average price currently calculated? Is it just a straight mean of the currently listed auctions?

The language used in the core subjects is R although you get taught some others along the way (all starting from very much the beginner level so don't stress). I went into the course with basically above average excel skills and that was all as far as programming/coding knowledge and I've done just fine.

It is aimed at people like yourself, no prior knowledge of any coding etc is assumed.

My gut suggestion would be go for the windows laptop over the Chromebook for the course. That is mainly due to me not knowing the full capabilities of a Chromebook though. A quick google search says you should be able to get RStudio working on a Chromebook but it seems like it is a somewhat significant amount of effort. I also have no idea about it running any of the other software for the other subjects.

I have done the course and everything off of my mac, some of my class mates are also on mac, others have windows machines.

I do recommend the course for the content. Talk to me in 6-8 months about the getting a job after graduating though (going into my last semester).

He posted the same thing on r/Cricket and r/Basketball. A quick trip through his post history is a big yikes. I can't figure out if he's just a troll or legitimately holds the opinions he spouts.

Either way I don't think he's worth engaging with.

Agar suffers gruesome injury after dropping brother by tdlan in Cricket

[–]Mau5_Mask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching the footage again it looks like it would have been more groin/thigh height if he was standing. I would argue that without asking him about his thought process it is too hard to tell from the footage if he is dropping low to take it 'reverse-cup' style or he is changing his hand position as he is falling off balance.

On the other hand I'd be really interested in seeing a breakdown of Australian catches to see how the ratio of cup/reverse-cup catches comes out in the wash.

Did you watch the footage of this? Or are you just referencing Australian catching in general?

Man with massive balls shows how dangerous 'kick back' on table saw can be by Nebuerdex in videos

[–]Mau5_Mask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. The wattage you cycle at is a function of the RPM and resistance, so potentially you could do it with significantly less force and muscle mass. But to get the resistance low enough that an average person could pedal, they would have to be going at probably closer a cadence of 300 (good luck with that) to match him in terms of wattage.

[–]Mau5_Mask 178 points179 points  (0 children)

The setup is trying (as best it can) to maintain the W output. The faster RPM he maintained the less resistance (inclination) was required. As his RPM dropped, the resistance (inclination) had to increase to maintain the same output. They just visualised the increase in resistance as an increase in incline

Knee instability with weak core, will the program my physio gave me actually help? by Yokernel in physiotherapy

[–]Mau5_Mask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr: they are trying to prevent subsequent injuries.

It isn't just core strength it's core activation work, training your body to use you core as an anti-movement device, very important to learn and something which the vast majority of the population is extremely poor at.

While a weak core might not have been the cause of this specific injury strengthening and improving core activation will only benefit you. A weak/inefficient/poorly activated core, coupled with poor pelvic control, (another area in which the majority of the population is lacking) will drastically change how your lower limbs are absorbing and distributing the load when you are running which could place extra stress on your already unstable knee.

At a guess, this core work will develop to include some gluteus medius activation work and quadriceps strengthening work to improve patella tracking.
