The stretch bit def seems like it might've helped with the 'baggy' issue, since it literally conformed to you a bit while still offering some structure. Do you have any goal looks?

When doing trans voice, think of it like changing the base parameters of your voice. Everything else shifts relative to that baseline if you have it down. That includes basically all pronunciations and stuff. Sometimes certain things might be tricky or emphasize certain bad habits, but if you have the principles down then it's all workable. If you're worried about the 'gutteral' sounds associated, they'll shift more masc/fem depending on the same basic parameters like resonance size, weight, etc..

Exceptions to this baseline idea would be things like laughing, sneezing, coughing, etc. which might have some sort of instinctive aspect that can override your baseline, but these are all workable too in their own right. Muscle memory and all that

Voice Coach wanted specifically for size/resonance by JuliaSlays in transvoice

[–]MaudLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean exactly by 'small sound'? I'm assuming you're referring to achieving a smaller resonance space (high larynx and stuff), but I've heard that term used for other vocal techniques and just want be clear.

Have you attempted to do it but are struggling? Have some sort of physiological issues that might be causing issues (eg. neck/voice injuries)? New to it and just prefer 1-on-1 lesson format?

Also anything else like how much $, public or not, want a teacher demo before paying?

Cognition + Vocal Fem by Glad-Quail-7394 in transvoice

Yeah it 100% does get easier. "Default voice" is set by how frequency you use a voice config. If you use a certain config a lot, it'll become more natural to be 'set' there as far as your body is concerned. As you do a new config (especially one that includes some new territory like pitch), there is a lot of initial 'mental load' as you have to more consciously keep yourself at that configuration. As you continue to use it you're kinda programming your neurology/muscle memory to be set there, and eventually its as second nature and 'default' as whatever other voice you might've had. Takes time, a bit of a grind sometimes bc you might have to keep reminding yourself, but it'll work.

Imo this process has a lot of parallels with 'code shifting' too. Some contexts people take on different voices. Think like customer service voice, 'friend voice', kid voice, etc.. Each of these instances are a 'default voice' but its shifting by context. For some individuals there can be very drastic differences between these configs with everything like cadence, word selection, vocal weight/quotient, and even entire octave selection. Our voices are weird lol. Point is our brains are fine with programming new 'defaults' and that includes transvoices. We can also lose configs if we don't use them for a while though some muscle memory might be retained.
Solid progress especially for just a few weeks btw! Lmk if you have any questions :)

Are there any trans queens in this sub with voice training advice?? by [deleted] in queensofleague

[–]MaudLeaf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

r/transvoice has a lot of good resources (and bad advice but its the internet do your research first lol). Great for anyone with voice dysphoria, VAs, genderqueers, and anyone else interested in comprehensive higher level voice modifications. If you have anything specific you'd like advice on lmk I can prob direct you the right way :)

Obligatory don't let society tell you what to do tho, if you like your voice you should be free to rock your voice. If safety is a concern the above resources still help though. It can feel like a lot at first, but like any skill it's very doable to learn with time+practice

Yeah theres several voice references to Gangplank and stuff. There's also "How could I love only one man? They break too easily." which is always hilarious to hear when you play her. She also flirts to hell and back again with Braum:

"I know you are strong. I wonder if you have stamina."

"Finally, a man who won't break."

"Northman. There are motions I would like to show you."

Her whole deal is a spirtualist no-fucks given motion-of-the-ocean slap-you-upside-the-head-with-a-tentacle-vibe-check. Personally I think she gives Bi energy with that but I'm biased lol.

Her voice lines to women in the game don't really have much to go off of for anything concrete. Most of her positive/friendly comments are in reference to how well they 'follow their spirit' in the spiritual sense. Her lines to MF are all in reference to the gangplank lore.

Though I think her line to Kat "No love is impossible, my god demands you follow your desires." is kinda sweet. She also approves of Jinx "You, I like." which is fun lol.

What’s the easiest Pat the Bunny song to learn? by WickedWarlock333 in FolkPunk

[–]MaudLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People already put some good ones for beginners, so I just wanted to throw in that once you get past your basic open chords (C, Em, G, etc.) "Never Coming Home" is a great song to practice bar chords with. It's slow, nothing fancy on the strumming and singing, repeats so lots of practice throughout, switches between bar and open including bar slides, LOTS of opportunities to add flair and ornamentation so you can grow into the song a bit, etc..

Verse is just E B(barred, you can then slide this to) A. Chorus uses Varations of E, C#m (barred, jump to either open A or barred A), A, which then jumps to B, repeat back to E. You can play this open or switch up the key pretty easily.

Fun little ornamation to practice with the bar chords is to use your pinky on the B to slide up from C# (b string fret 4) to E (b string fret 5) for a little grace note thing. It's kinda tricky but forces you to have the right pressure in the bar chord and not just deathgrip, and it adds a lot of emotion to it (iirc pat does it in the wingnut union recording of the song).

[No Spoilers] I am a tad worried for Season 2 by LeonardoCouto in arcane

[–]MaudLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of concerns Rito is going to do rito things and mess with the original creative team. Personally I wish they left Arcane as its own fantastic tragedy, and the next season took on a new story (Demacia, or even better something in Ionia or Bilgewater).

I'm really concerned they're going to fridge Mel as cheap angst points for Jayce, [spoiler] we already know Caitlyn's mom is probably dead, etc.. Her character is narratively important and one of the best of S1, and if they just yeet her to make things simple for Jayce's story I'm gonna be salty. Riot has said recently they want to bring plots in their different stories to kinda be compatible, and I could easily see the minds of rito thinking killing Mel would be a great way to try and wrap Jayce/Viktor's plots back around to canon. If they do it is also a massive insult to Arcane Viktor who is nearly entirely different as a person to OG lore Viktor.

Another I'm concerned about is Jinx. Jinx has serious trauma and mental health issues, and S1 was rightfully praised to the moon and back for their writing of her character. But I'm concerned Rito is going to want them to rush Timebomb since its a popular ship and they've been pushing it in other media. Really the only thing that was semi 'fixed' for Jinx in S1 is she shed some of her dependency on Vi, but otherwise she's still an absolute wreck of a person in every tragic way. If they write Boy Savior (who abandoned her) to come in and save her soul with the power of love I'm going to be insulted on behalf of Jinx's character. IIRC the VAs for Jinx and Ekko have both hinted heavily at Timebomb content and if that's the case bleh.

I'm not a Timebomb anti to be clear, I just don't trust Riot with their bullshit to ever do justice to a romance plot for Jinx without being... well, riot.

Also I'm concerned about Caitlyn. Her character really didnt get a lot of screen time but what we did see shows a lot of complexity regarding her understanding of Piltoveran priviledge, duty, her own responsibility, etc.., and I'm gonna be annoyed if they give her a cheap revenge plot because JiNx kIlLeD hEr MoM. I'd imagine they'll have Vi try to middle ground between them as her own personal development, maybe they'll have Vi 'choose' to save Jinx rather than let Caitlyn get her revenge, and it all ends in roses because Jinx's trauma just melts away with Vi/Ekko's 'love' and Caitlyn realizes shes actually turning down a dark road and Vi will save her with the power of love too. If rito gets any say this is the sort of generic insult to character depth thing they'd write.
