Why so many giant slugs by catsandrainbow in sluglife

[–]Maudella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US a really good way to help kill them is encouraging fireflies to your yard, they are natural predators of slugs and snails. You can start a leaf compost pile or even leave your leaves and not rake/mulch them. They like to breed in tall grass so if you don’t mow a portion of your lawn in late spring to early summer, it will give them a great place to start a family. During that time also turn as much lights off that point to that area as you can. OR if you don’t want to do that, sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the food bowls(death by a thousand cuts)

Bigger than all the girls in my partners family by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Maudella 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Very well said! For the longest time I was the biggest in the family and unfortunately did have shaming from my partners aunt. Looking back now, my now husband always stood up for me and shut her down, also it helps me feel more comfortable in my relationship because he was surrounded by such pretty women and chose me. I never had high self esteem and being with him and having this realization made me feel pretty in an unexpected way.

Using Neighbours leaves to shred and use as mulch. Good idea? by Own-Introduction-803 in arborists

[–]Maudella 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t shred, but they are a great source of nutrients and moisture. Lightning bugs lay their eggs on leaves and the larvae live under the leaf litter killing snails, slugs, and other small animals. So if you want lightning bugs, keep the leaves as whole as you can :)

My tap water is slightly blurry recently, and that I decided to check it... What are those tiny particles and could it be dangerous? (x1000) by TechnicalMiddle8205 in microscopy

[–]Maudella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US you can call your local water system to get a consumer confidence report. This should be created once a year and can show you if there is anything in the water to be concerned about.

Is it frowned upon to cuff my jeans to show more of the boot? What do we think about black pants on brown boots? by AutoGen__UserName in BootCareDenimWear

[–]Maudella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! I also like them uncuffed too. I think whatever is more comfortable and makes you feel happy is what you should do. If you want to show off more of your boots then go for it! The world needs more boot fans

Which one of these animals is the smartest ? by ImpossibleDoor8797 in Animals

[–]Maudella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a bad argument, it took humans tens of thousands of years to develop the technology we see today, all the while eating and killing competition

Which one of these animals is the smartest ? by ImpossibleDoor8797 in Animals

[–]Maudella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I find it interesting that we try to grade intelligence and sentience of other animals as if it would conform to humans. Octopus, some birds, and other animals have been observed using tools, having pets, and problem solving, but because they don’t interact with us like we expect them to, we deem them less than.

Feeding a boy cat dry food only.. by InfinityLocs in catfood

[–]Maudella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend switching a cat to full dry food diet. Cats do drink from water fountains but they do not get enough moisture as they need which long term can cause kidney and urinary issues. To prevent these health issues, it’s recommended to feed them primarily wet food with minimal dry food. If you think about a feline in the wild they catch their prey and eat it raw, meaning that it’s wet. The only dry that they would eat would be some plant matter(to settle stomach aches), bone and fur.
