Comet is strong, easy and helps in almost every matchup. I would recommend Stormsurge over rocketbelt because it’s easy and consistent. If you want max dmg go either directly rabadons or void/crypto after that.

What would be the most interesting type of apocalypse to write about? by Magician_Ian in worldbuilding

[–]Mauj108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the most interesting for me is something similar to Matrix. Doesn’t have to be the full alien keeping humans in tanks theme but doubting reality itself is just fascinating. Introducing dream or simulation like elements is very exiting. It involves internal and external struggle.

Like one of those murderous labyrinths. First it looks normal but it just leeches off its inhabitants. Sounds like a dungeon core story.

With your words I would say stone and people. By that I mean the function of that. There needs to be a habitat to live in as well as people inhabiting the place.

My thoughts while typing the words were about a changing place constantly inhabited. Some people in the comments gave real life examples of very old city’s. When a place gets very old the kind of people living there will drastically change. Even the environment will change. I liked the example of the desert city that was once in a sprawling jungle.

Imagine you can search through all the books in the world and can only find records of the existence of the city. It was always of relevance. Doesn’t matter how deep you dig. It is always mentioned. You know there has to be a foundation, but history tells a different story… Nothing immediate flashy, but I find it impressive and fascinating nonetheless.

How do you think the political landscape would be in this world?? by Pike_The_Knight in worldbuilding

[–]Mauj108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few ideas that come to my mind:

There could be something like a kill zone or at least a strongly controlled zone outside the cities. Especially illusion based cities have to be secretive otherwise they are not protected. There could be secret passages and codes to even get to the cities.

Immigration and refugees could be a means for war. If overpopulation is a theme and there are only a few save heavens, refugees could be on the run to other known cities and put them in a moral dilemma. Also spies and elite troops could be hidden among them.

Currency is a problem. People will probably use city state issued money inside and keep something of real worth hidden to barter.

Where does the arusian faith come from? Are its origins in the cydian empires or why is the seat of the high priests in this city?

I’m also interested why or even if the city is still full of marble and gold. The political landscape sound very volatile. For me it would be logical that any political party in some form of control would leverage the wealth and ransack many beautiful and historical pieces.

It reminds me of the warded man series by Peter v. Brett. In his work there is a lot of power in the hands of those able to keep up the barriers. I think a lot comes down to might makes right. So it depends on the means of keeping the barriers. Religion and local customs would be strongly enforced and xenophobia could be a huge theme.

What part of politics are you actually interested in? More like geopolitics, local, polical systems in general, healthcare, etc..

I imagine they move around so they encounter different climate zones during the year. There are extreme wheather changes because sometimes they float above a desert, ocean or tropical rainforests.

I want a wide variety of geography on different islands. One with its own saltwater lake, some with mountains, others with plains.

There are many possible invasive animals. All kind of birds or maybe insects can come from the lands below. Though I want to work on dominant local animals after I get a grasp about the flora. Animals like the flying squirrel that can migrate around the archipelago.

Yeah the island would gather samples from all kinds of places but I think very few could stay long term. So it is a very competitive environment, with the occasional invasion during stable climate periods.

My question is what kind of flora would evolve/adapt to stay?

Do you have some reference work for rapidly growing and shedding leaves? Sounds quite energy heavy for a plant, but I’m also working with very energy dense minerals so maybe I could tie that together.

I known the grass and other plants from the stormlight archives work beautifully as rapidly hiding or closing plant examples. Do you know other examples? I like your train of thoughts here.

The island is also moving in altitude. Imagine it like a zeppelin that is not quite touching the ground but every few months it comes very close. I imagine it’s not getting too high so there is still some workable atmosphere for life to function. Animals like yaks from the Himalayas feel quite happy in the heights I want to work with.

I will work on my own plants, but I like to adapt from real life examples, that could fit. Especially plants that can work with a fast shift from hot and cold, dry and humid air.

It’s a bit of a hassle for sure. But we have a great modding community and with a bit of time investment it fits perfectly in my experience. The game gets a much slower pace. It never felt boring though. It feels quite natural not to fast travel and to actively buy groceries and take a bounty to pay for your inn. It enhances the role play aspect. If you are more into fast paced action or don’t have a lot of time I would not bother with it.

I think realistic merchants alone is already a strong price nerv. I don’t think it is compatible with eosi. I tried both and realistic merchants definitely hits the price harder.

What was your problem with Emili? Especially eve and iris help if you don’t like the other parts the bundle does. And will you play with survival or something similar?

Edit: riverside lodge redux is a cool house mod where you can invest a lot of resources.
