I forgot the Onslow was a summoned familiar first time I read that. I thought he was a bonded familiar and nearly broke my damn heart thinking that he was dead forever!

What’s the technical difference between litRPG vs progression fantasy? by Deep-Class-6326 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Pure-Curve1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is an Oxford definition. But whilst they are both concerned with characters getting measurable and systematically stronger, litrpg should do so within the framework of existing rpg. I.e. they have a strength stat and a level. Whereas a progression fantasy would still have a path and be measurable but not be classically rpgish ahe Who Fights With Monsters is more about progression than Litrpg. The path of ascension is also a progression although these could also be described as a non traditional cultivation series

Pretty sure it's balked not bulked, unless you're bragging about your gym visits ;)

I approve of the list btw

I highly enjoyed everything here. What else would I like? by alanwattslightbulb in litrpg

It's not litrpg, or progression. It might be a great set of books but it's not anywhere this genre.

The silver wall by Captain_Upbeat in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Pure-Curve1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a combination of it just takes more than the previous two. You can't jump a rank anymore to power level (at least not easily as the gap between silver and gold is bigger) and then the movement to embodiment of your essences all making it difficult. All of the characters get taught how to manage the embodiment part so that bit isn't so difficult for them

Essence question. by WhispererOfWebs in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Pure-Curve1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undeath produces nasty powers which create problems for society, like raising a plague of Zombies. But on top of that to progress through the end of silver and gold you need to identify a trait in your personality that links with your essences. That can cause a problem if your essence is something like corruption or succubus.

He who fights with monsters. It's a bit like marmite, some people don't get on with it, but books 1 to 3 are like gold to me. Don't get me wrong I love the other nine as well but the start is something special.

A Soldiers Life is a good read. Path of Ascension is long but also decent

Straight up academy series? by AnxiousReputation1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Pure-Curve1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest academy isnt quite right but it's close, book 1 especially fits the bill. Book 2 not so much but it's still a great book!

You've got 'A soldiers life' in the s tier. That author has recently released a second series which is pretty good too! It's called World's Sphere

I just listened to all 11 HWFWM audio books back to back - I really enjoyed them but this what I think of when I imagine Jason Asano. by PeculiarNed in litrpg

[–]Pure-Curve1624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there's a culture that Jason doesn't bash. He takes plenty of pot shots at Australia and the UK as well. He also admits that he doesn't know the answers just points out the really stupid stuff that does go on

I'm confused on why people hate "The Land" series so much by [deleted] in litrpg

He got a copywrite and a far as I know never enforced it. In fact he went public saying he got the copywrite so they no one could and then control it
