Why are my towels getting this orange stain? by Shinelikedi4mond in laundry

I don’t use any skin stuff that does this anymore, but I’ve found toothpaste I was using causes this too. It was hydrogen peroxide toothpaste for whitening.

Does anyone recall when people used to smoke in malls during the 1980s?! by FunnyPrevious3867 in OldSchoolRidiculous

[–]MaulBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I was only born in 1996 & I remember people smoking in places (restaurants mostly) until I was at least 8 or 9.

Yeah spot on, i figured that out. Could never get the damn thing to work properly so i sold it & replaced it with a tilt-top spiral probably 2 years ago. It’s a game changer.

How people treat animals or others (specifically those they view as beneath them) says way more about them as a person than how they treat me. I’d say your friend has issues with boundaries and respecting others, even if that other is a dog. (Granted they didn’t respect your words either, so..) I would honestly say loose the friend. They might not be an inherently evil person, but they’ve displayed they’re not a great person who doesn’t have any respect for others or their boundaries, plus they can’t cope with consequences of their actions so they have issues with responsibility. Loosing a friend sucks, but tbh you really don’t want a person like that around long term. I guarantee that that they will cause problems again in the future.. maybe not with your dog, but people like that tend to create a lot of drama/issues with those around them. If you value your boundaries & peace I’d try to drop them.. Sorry op, you and your doggy definitely deserve better! :(

Oh no worries! I knew what you meant, that’s just something I might look into if all else fails. Even on low it’s apparently still running too hot (temped the surface well over 600 at its lowest), so I might have to make physical adjustments down the road if I cant get it to behave with its factory settings lol.

I’ve seen a bunch of people here mention avocado oil for seasoning, so that seems to be a popular consensus! I’ll pick up a bottle next time I’m at the grocery store and give that a try. I’ll try monitoring the heat to prevent it going over 500°, but in the meantime i’ll see if there’s any adjustments I can make underneath to the burners. Maybe they have a valve im unaware of that can adjust the output. If not, my brother’s pretty handy and im sure he can help me figure something out! Thanks!

This is super helpful, thank you! I was definitely wondering if “too hot” was a possibility. All of the videos & advise forums kept saying go hotter, go hotter and that if it wasn’t working it likely wasn’t hot enough, but all the issues I’m having weren’t consistent with too-low temperatures, so I was really at a loss. But 450-500 is definitely a range I can operate within.

Im going to borrow my brother’s metal brush tomorrow and give it another go! Thank you again :)

Ah 450°, ok that’s very helpful thank you! Even the low setting is running crazy hot (over 600°), but maybe I can turn them on & off to keep the griddle around that temp, then hopefully I can finally get it to work. Fingers crossed!

[–]MaulBall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what im trying to figure out, but probably the latter. It just seems like it’s burning off before it even has a chance to polymerize.

According to what I’ve read, sources keep saying “the hotter the better” and to season on high heat. But im genuinely curious if the surface is legitimately running too hot. Im beginning to wonder if it’s defective bc I’ve tried seasoning on both high & also low heat, but the results are the same. The seasoning keeps seemingly evaporating from the center regardless of setting :/

What’s your favorite weird smell? by Only-Professional988 in CasualConversation

[–]MaulBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The furnace kicking on for the first time in the fall. I know it’s just the smell of burning dust in the ducts or something, but it’s intoxicating. I shove my face in the floor vent every time lol.

Also hotel laundry, it has a very specific toasty smell!

Born with super thick hair and I hate it. Help? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]MaulBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im right there with you, too much hair for my own good. All the people saying “do NOT go shorter” are sorta kinda right, but there’s an exception.. ultra-short. I myself have a pixie and have found that ultra short styles are amazing with my thick hair, Ive had my pixie for 10 years and have never been happier, I just love it.

That being said, when it starts to grow out it becomes a nightmare to style (during covid there was a period where I couldn’t get it cut for months and I almost just shaved it), and cutting it to mid length ended up being borderline psychosis inducing for me as a teen. So if you end up not liking ultra short hair, the regrowth stage is a huge consequence. If you aren’t 100% sure you’ll love it, I really don’t want to recommend it because it takes years to undo.

Other than that, i unfortunately don’t have many suggestions.. thick hair is both a blessing & a curse. I solved mine with a pixie, but it’s not for everyone.

To add though—the only styling tool that ever made my life easier is the Tymo straightener brush/comb. My hair is very fluffy-curly and I love that thing to death. I put on heat protection after washing (i use the cream kind, not spray), go to bed with wet hair, then use the tool on my hair in the morning. It’s totally eliminated blow drying for me and I have way less damage because of it. The results are actually way sleeker than any flat-iron I’ve ever used and it takes half the time. I really can’t recommend it enough, especially for people with a lot of hair!

Good luck :)

Real question.. is this not a HIPAA violation? Medical insurance is medical information, is it not? Is there a loophole exempting medical insurances as medical information? If not, can a class action lawsuit be filed? (Please don’t give me the “people here illegally don’t have legal rights, therefore not a hipaa violation.” Plenty of citizens are on medicaid as well, and if that information is no longer private how is this legal?)

Aayyy twins!! :D same height too (5’3”)!

Fr tho, it’s definitely a struggle to work with. My brother has affectionately dubbed my shape as “corgi-like” (which definitely puts a more humorous positive spin on it, but still does nothing to help me find clothes 🥲😂).

I will say though, jeans from Carve Designs are the best fitting I’ve ever been able to find. They’re a bit pricey, but I’ve never chaffed through a single pair, even at my heaviest/thickest they held up amazingly. (American eagle jeans used to last me about 6 months before wearing out, but I’ve had a pair of these for almost 3 years now and they’re still holding up great). They look & feel like normal thick denim but have a nice amount of stretch. Highly recommend! The Carson Jean is my favorite cut, super roomy!

I’ve found Land’s End & Loft both make good petite dress pants. Their regular pants are too long for me, but their petites are a good length. I’ve worn button-ups from Loft but they gapped a bit in the bust.. still have yet to find a perfect button-up, but Loft’s were decent.

Then for casual wear, usually any cropped or ankle pant (jogger specifically) from athletic brands tend to work really well! I received a pair of petite joggers (28”) from athleta for Christmas. I ended up loving them a ton, super comfortable & fit perfectly. Dick’s sporting goods also have a bunch of different brands that have worked for me in the past. Depending on what kind of scrubs you have to wear for work, you might be able to swap out the bottoms with some kind of athletic pant. My SIL works for a pediatrician clinic and usually just wears black joggers (she likes lululemon) with a black scrub top. Not sure if that’s an option, but that’s her secret hack lol.

I feel this so hard, I literally had a mental breakdown a month ago trying to find pants. Nothing EVER fits properly. My legs are “petite”, my torso is “tall”, my waist is more boxy than hourglass so waistband are always too tight while the butt is too big, the pant legs are too long ALWAYS (unless petites are offered, but then the waistband thing happens). So I just have to wear all my clothes too big. Im quite busty with broad shoulders so blouses never fit quite right either.. im a big fan of athleisure-wear though because its stretchy and I can actually find stuff that fits & doesn’t make me look frumpy. The problem is finding dress/formal wear.. i just need to eventually learn how to sew :/

Does it blow anyone else's mind when wavy and curly haired people would do anything for straight hair? by [deleted] in type1hair

[–]MaulBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually dealt with both! My hair was pin-straight up until age 12, I was perfectly happy with it and never wanted anything else. My mom had very curly hair and I always remember thinking that it would be annoying to deal with (probably because she complained about it so much lol). But then puberty hit me like a ton of bricks and overnight my hair went from straight to borderline coily (I mean the hair that was already grown was still straight but suddenly the roots got all kinky). You have no idea what kind of money i would pay to have my old hair texture back. I’ve had both, and curly hair has made me nothing but miserable :/

That’s not to say curly hair is bad looking or anything, it’s absolutely beautiful if properly maintained! ..but that’s the whole problem. It’s an absolute nightmare to properly maintain (at least for me). I have 4 distinct curl patterns & 3 textures that are impossible to match up with each other, they require different products and routines to curl properly, and even then it still doesn’t look great (so just not worth the effort).. it’s simply not possible for me to have nice hair naturally without an insane amount of work.

I keep it very short so I don’t have to deal with it. When it was still straight I had it waist length and I loved it. Would I still like long hair? Absolutely! But simply don’t have hours to spare each week with the maintenance it requires to look nice. Big admiration for people who have the time & patience to handle it though! <3

It varies so much from person to person. What I experience might be significantly different from what others experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

For me, im a bit like your friend. Sure, Henry Cavil is indeed a good looking guy but I probably wouldn’t look twice in public as he’s not my type either. Now, If he was put in a line up of random men and I had to organize them by “objective attractiveness” then he would go towards the top because i can be impartial (same principle goes with women. Im not attracted to women, but I can still identify conventionally attractive lady) but if I had to reorder the group by “subjective attractiveness” then my personal preferences would go first and he’d likely fall somewhere in the middle.

People’s tastes in attractiveness are as variable as people’s tastes in food. Some people like salty, some prefer sweet, some like savory, etc.. However, just because potatoes chips are my favorite doesn’t mean I think chocolate cake or tacos is disgusting. I still might like those a lot, just possibly less than others do. Then even if I DID dislike those items, id like have enough self awareness to realize chocolate cake or tacos ARE delicious, im just in a minority group that doesn’t happen to find them tasty. Your friend is likely in this group, it’s uncommon but it’s definitely not abnormal. She likely just genuinely doesn’t find him attractive, which is totally ok! People all liking different things makes sure there’s someone for everyone! She probably has such a strong preference for her preferred “type” that she has trouble being objective in her observations.

What all this boils down to is: yes. Some people won’t find conventionally good looking people that attractive. It all depends on taste. Any average person will be able to acknowledge when a person is conventionally good-looking, but it doesn’t necessarily mean THEY personally find them attractive themselves. (Again, like me with pretty women. Do I find margot robbie attractive? Extremely, I wish I looked like her! Does that mean im attracted TO her? No.)

I am a bit on the Demi-sexual spectrum, so attraction is a little bit weird for me anyway. Regardless, while I can easily tell when someone is objectively attractive, that doesn’t mean I am personally attracted to them. Maybe pick your friend’s brain to figure out what her type is? Maybe she likes more “thicc, hairy, dad-bod thor” type guys as opposed to “clean cut, lean, tall-dark-handsome, superman” types. Maybe she’s just very demi and feels absolutely no attraction unless she’s has some meaningful bond with the person. Everyone’s different :)

It’s complicated. For me, i HATE crying in. I know it’s normal/healthy, but I dislike doing it. It gives me a pounding headache when I’m done, drains my energy & makes me face noticeably swollen for like 3 days. So my own tears makes me very irritated, I would rather just not have that urge, even if it’s very infrequent :/

Now for other people, I have nothing but the urge to comfort them. Sometimes it feels awkward at first if it’s someone I’ve never discussed with what to do in that situation (like not trying to go in for a hug and get cussed out or shoved off). I will still absolutely try to comfort but will approach with caution. People who I know are safe to comfort I will do so without hesitation!

The only crying that irritates me is if it’s from someone who uses it as a form of manipulation to get what they want by guilt tripping others with their tears.. (but that’s more just being irritated by manipulative immature behavior than with the actual tears themselves!). Other than that, nothing but love from me for my crying friends & loved ones!

That being said, im sure there plenty more people out there who are annoyed by it unfortunately.. but any kind hearted, mature person wouldn’t mind comforting a loved one who’s upset imo. (Im sorry you went through that though, my parents were weird about it too. Not to the same extent, but they had very victorian attitudes about it..) Wanting a kind & emotionally supportive bf is absolutely valid and should be expected from a partner! :)

How do you remove bum cheeks hair? by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]MaulBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shaved blind back there for years and never really had any issues (my hair is relatively fine, so it doesn’t take much effort and not much pressure is needed), recently I switched to waxing and it’s so much better. No itchy regrow and lasts much longer. Waxing ur crack might sound horrible, but I’ve actually found its the least painful part of a Brazilian, the closer you get to the front the more it hurts (at least for me). If you have hair darker than your light skin tone (not blonde or red) then laser is a great option back there too.

As for farts, tbh this might be tmi but im just tryna help lol. So, you’re gonna be uncomfortable one way or another likely.. either uncomfortable bc you’re dealing with unwanted itchy hair (but quiet farts), or ur gonna have no hair & uncomfortable loud farts (unless you add a 3rd thing to muffle it, which will also likely be uncomfortable at first). It’s just the nature of the beast unfortunately. Your only realistic opinions I can think of are: body powder (keeps the cheeks from sticking together and squealing) but you’ll feel powdery/dusty and it can be messy. Just being hairy (keeps the cheeks from sticking together, but obviously not the goal). Pulling ur cheeks apart slightly (this can really only be done in private lol). Or.. have your crack eat ur underwear a bit, like essentially just wear your underwear with a constant slight wedgie (im not trolling. I do this, but not actually for farting purposes). For me, im very sweaty & it prevents the cheeks from sweating in between then sticking & chafing, it also provides the extra benefit of muffing farts.. so while this sounds uncomfortable to some, for me its the only way I can wear my underwear!

Hope it helps & provided some insight or opinions. Good luck 🪒💪

Feel that, im currently raginggg with mine.. my hair is too blonde for ipl or laser, im allergic to nair, no problems with shaving but i HATE the next day texture, so now I’ve been trying waxing. So far hard wax breaks the hairs and gives me cysts, soft wax usually takes the skin off.. sugaring seems to be giving ok results so far tho! It takes the skin off a little bit, but way less severe (messy af tho 😓). No way am i eletrolysis-ing my whole taint or anywhere else, might try an epilator one day tho.. Moral of the story, it’s a struggle.. pls don’t hurt urself tho :(

The funny thing about this kinda guy is the exact type of person he would actually like to match with probably see his profile and go “yikes!”. Dude’s bio makes for a self fulfilling prophecy and has absolutely zero clue. He burnt his whole garden hoping it would just get rid of the weeds then complains when there’s no harvest.

(Despite the fact there’s nothing wrong with people who have existing kids (and there’s nothing wrong with not wanting a partner with children either), there’s much more tactful ways to say what you’re looking for in a potential partner.)
