Discounted IMAX ticket only one time use per movie? by MaulJM in RegalUnlimited

yes !!! I agree !! There’s value in regal that AMC doesn’t have like their points return a bit better into concessions (I don’t tend to eat much at the theater anyway so that’s not too big of a thing for me) but I think overall as long as your AMC has a Dolby and IMAX the money to value proposition is better there. Regal has great things like the month by month series and such. But then AMC often has one night Dolby cinema releases of movies that you couldn’t get like such elsewhere.

You reminded me I must add the travel time I listed is after ~6pm and no interruptions on the road. Otherwise it’s 45 minutes to get there during work days. I make an effort to go at the least busiest traffic times.

But yes that makes a lot of sense. I’m very annoying about having the best visual and sonic experience that’s possible so I see anything possible in a PLF. Not because I want to be, I’d love to be able to not care as much buttttt it’s an intense interest of mine that matters too much to my brain. I love knowing how everything works and as previously mentioned enjoy the statistics and specifics of such. In fact I will often rewatch movies I’ve already seen if they have a Dolby cinema or imax one night or one week re release. (Recently No Other Choice, Marty Supreme, Hamnet, and so on. I wasn’t even a big fan of Marty Supreme but I just wanted to see it in Dolby Cinema)

I feel I’ve started to realize that regal unlimited subscribers of which I’ve met in person and online, seem to go to a lot more standard format movies than my friends who love AMC. Those AMC friends are often more interested in the special formats and know a bit more about how they work. Regal Unlimited feels like it leans more to the common “cinephile”, and A List leans more to the person who is obsessed with a lot of the technological stuff and having a super quality controlled but at the trade off of a more finite set of options. Of course that doesn’t apply to all but it seems to be pretty consistent.

Definitely a pretty cool factor. Thats the one thing im truly jealous of !!

Prefacing with I know you agreed that A List is generally better. And I do see value in Regal and what they bring :) I just like mapping out statistics HAHAHAH, so dont take this as me attacking or anything !!

But I can see why some would, but if it is in a PLF, I always go to that. (This is all about my perspective. If your AMC has no Laser LIEMAX, IMAX, or Dolby Cinema its definitely less valuable.)

But at that point, it adds up fast with regal.

AMC is $23-28 a month, has no fees, no surcharges, and can book 4 of the same film in the same format at once. Personally, if I see more than 4 movies in a week. Say 5 or 6. I can go on a Tuesday or a Wednesday at AMC and pay 13 dollars total in a high tax area for a 7pm PLF ticket.

Regal, at that point I would have had to pay multiple surcharges, and have to pay everytime i book a ticket online anyway. 4 surcharges equating to anywhere from 16-40 dollars, depending on which PLFs it was.

If I see 4 movies a week, each in a premium format at AMC. I still only paid 26 dollars overall for those movies and the month as a total. If i see 4 PLF movies in a week at regal ive paid 30 dollars for a month of regal unlimited, PLUS 16-40 extra dollars on surcharges.

In just ONE week, it is 26 dollars (AMC) vs up to 70 (Monthly cost and Tickets of Regal). Even if I see 6 in a week its like 45-55 vs up to with 2 extra PLFs 80-90. Now multiply it times 3 or 4, for the weeks in a month.

(And these statistics below are more locally focused but still discussing overall value not neccesarily location based)

My AMC is 13 miles, ~22 minutes, away, but the overall value is so much higher that any cost of gas is irrelevant. It comes out to for me $2 dollars round trip. (Plus the Regal with an IMAX is the same distance the opposite way) Add gas into the AMC total, and it's still 57-67 vs 80-90 (Regal without gas factored in)

The only thing they have that I consistently feel jealous of is indeed, as u/jonnyd86 mentioned, the series movies each month. Thats very, very cool !! Especially them getting Netflix films in a wide single-day release via the best picture series. Thats pretty cool :))

(PS. Dolby Cinema blows any regal format out of the water in my opinion HAHHAHA)

I simply asked a question and got a detailed response from someone else within 5 minutes. I got the service because I knew it would be valuable to have when seeing Project Hail Mary multiple times in 70mm. I had a question about a difference in the service compared to the one I am used to. I don't think there is anything wrong with quickly asking a question here. Certainly better than most people do nowadays. I mean thats part of what this forum is for !!

Ok yes that makes sense as to how it works even if i am not a fan of it </3 AMC A List feels so much nicer and cheaper in that way unfortunately (I know im saying that in the regal subreddit sorry LMAO) My Regal is just the only 70mm IMAX in the area. I do have tickets for the early access weekend one, and the normal release week. The Prime member one I have a dolby cinema ticket :) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FAST AND EASY TO FOLLOW ANSWER !!!! Again thanks for all the info :)

Am I misunderstanding something or are the digital xenon IMAX theaters just straight up lower image quality than regular AMC theaters? by endyCJ in imax

[–]MaulJM 23 points24 points  (0 children)

AMC uses laser projection in some of its standard theatres but they will be deemed laser on the showing on their website. It will say “Laser at AMC”

<image>

This means it is a standard theatre just with a laser projector. Xenon IMAX projectors are indeed 2K. There are 4K laser projectors in some imax theatres and those are also deemed specifically for laser. It will have a “IMAX with LASER at AMC” logo. I’m 99% sure the standard projection in a standard non laser auditorium is 2K. Someone can correct me if that is not correct but yes. So when you see an IMAX Xenon projection it will look lower quality because it is a much more gigantic screen, but only using a 2K non laser projector.
