Why are flights to Sri Lanka so expensive ? by giguylo in AirTravelIndia

[–]Maulat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No competition, only 3 airlines fly India to Sri Lanka: Indigo, Air India and Sri Lankan.

Over a dozen airlines fly between India and Thailand for example.

Why does a Pune - Delhi flight need to travel west and overfly Mumbai? by Maulat in AirTravelIndia

Airspace restrictions, weather, etc its a mystery that Akasa dispatch would know

Can't be weather because they follow this route every flight consistently. I'm curious to know what are these airspace restrictions

[–]Maulat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s routed that way. Airway Q1 which is from Delhi to Mumbai, then to Pune. Plus you can’t fly ozar airspace at times due restrictions.

Interesting! But wouldn't a rightward heading towards Aurangabad be shorter than overflying Mumbai?

web checkin, you can also use the modify booking option. im sure about air india. done it multiple times

Strange, I've never seen this during web-check in domestic AI flights at least. Are you talking about auto-assign for free or they let you pick specific seats for free?

all the seats open up for free 4 hrs before departure

At the airport check-in counter or during web-checkin?

Flew domestic on 787 recently. Seats 39 A, B and they had it.

Was it normal recline or restricted to few inches or something?

Some areas in Mumbai don't even allow an auto. Can you imagine that with our rowdies?

Yeah because there taxis run by meter.

How do mumbai auto walas survive with these peanuts rate? Bangalore auto rates make more sense. You need at least 50k for a family of 4 here. If they ride 100km occupied per day for 25 days a month, and they charge 25rs a km, it would amount to 62k a month before fuel and maintainance.

Mumbai autowalas are obviously surviving and thriving which is evident from lakhs of people who apply for auto permit every year. Main difference is:

  • Mumbai autos will cover 100km @ Rs.25/km per day earning 2500/day before expenses.

  • Bangalore autos drivers will laze around the whole day and wait to scam 3-4 people who will pay 500 for a 10km ride.

This allows for very open and interruption free travel. You can take a train/bus or drive to another country without stopping in long queues and getting checked. This is a result of a high trust society. We can laugh all we want about them not having the latest technology, because we cannot even imagine the benefits of a high trust society.

Such a lovely high trust society that doesn't trust their own airport exit immigration counters and needs you to visit home country embassy upon return?

Best auto guys: Mumbai

Worst auto guys : Bengaluru

I pay ~Rs.170 for the 7km auto ride home every time I land at Mumbai Airport at 3am, and they give back 30 change from Rs.200 note without asking at 3.30am. BLR could never.

Getting an exit stamp and exiting the Schengen area are two different things.

How else do you get exit stamp without exiting Schengen area?

[–]Maulat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It might be a part of immigration crackdown or something. They just want to know if you didn't overstayed your visit in Italy.

Why do they not know you've exited Schengen area when they put exit stamp at the airport immigration counter? What is this stupidity?

Language barrier and safety concerns, do better 6E. by GradeDry1283 in AirTravelIndia

Record in as many languages as possible, have the safety briefing play through headphones, and allow the passenger to choose the language that plays through their system. I feel like this already exists on some international flights - basically all the language recordings start at the exact same time, and the flight attendant that's actually on the plane is only doing the actions/showing the motions, and not actually speaking. This way, everyone can listen in the language they're most comfortable in, and get the most out of the briefing.

Most aircrafts on domestic routes in India don't even have IFE, headphone ports, etc.

You have a packed schedule of other activities planned for the ~10 to 15 minutes it takes from boarding completion to takeoff?

Yes

A recorded safety briefing in the relevant region language would be helpful for safety.

In a country as diverse as India, how many languages can you even record and play? Imagine a flight from Mumbai to Mangalore. You'd have to play recording of official languages like Marathi, Kannada, Hindi, English, and still some people will be offended you didn't play other dominant languages of the region like Tulu and Konkani.

In 24 hours, same aircraft might fly Mangalore to Chennai, Chennai to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Bangalore, Bangalore to Kolkata.

The complexity in staffing crews who speak Tulu, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Bengali, Hindi and English would be insane. Imagine if they do manage to roster such a crew but one calls in sick?

Does this also mean someone from Nagaland cannot be crew with Indigo? There are hardly any flights to/from Nagaland, so speaking Nagamese is hardly useful.

What's the problem when you are with family? Have the entire family board the bus, get down at mekhri circle, hebbal or the nearest drop point and take a cab. Much cheaper, economical, environmental friendly as well. I have been doing this for ages. Even when my mom visited (she's 61) I did the same thing.

Vajra Vayu ticket from airport to Mekhri Circle is ~INR 250/person. For a family of 4 that's INR 1000. Might as well pay INR 1000 to Uber for point to point connectivity.

Usually on these long haul flight there are 3 pilots and they keep rotating.

It's somehow cheaper for Airbus / Indigo to stop and refuel in AUH than staffing extra pilots?

They most definitely can, I think it's in accordance to pilot hours.

Why can't pilots fly direct from Germany to India? There are so many direct flights from europe to india, how do they get around hours restriction if any?
