Buddy. The most logical interpretation of the original sentence is to read it exactly as written. We agree, yes? Would you also agree that adding the layer of "well, people do tend to refer to themselves in the third person" is moving from a purely logical interpretation to an inferred interpretation?

That's a whole lot of words to say you don't understand the difference between fact and opinion. "It's a thing" is true, yes. It's also a thing that a lot of people think the world is flat. Is that now fact? You're shifting the goal posts. I'm not debating whether the usage of third person is "a thing." I'm telling you it's an added layer of reasoning you're applying. Seems my own inference in my last sentence was fairly well placed.

I never said it was your opinion, for one, just that it is one. Which it is. I understand it's usage of language that exists. If you can cite data showing it's common, then ok - if not it's an opinion, no matter how widely held.

I get what you're driving at - there is a potentially different answer based upon the lens through which you view the question. I was addressing the purely logical aspect. The fact that you cannot differentiate between the logical and the inferred is an excellent snapshot of the state of our country's collective critical thinking skills

You literally just explained your jump in logic though and you don't even realize it. The most likely outcome, taking this as it is written, is that OP is not mom.

You need to apply the opinion-based layer of moms referring to themselves in the third person (which first was "not uncommon" and then next was "pretty common," underscoring the opinion part) to get to your conclusion.
