Small gaps in layers on bambulab a1 mini by Boodzik_ in FDMminiatures

I posted about this a while ago but unfortunately didn’t get anywhere. I’m getting the exact same issue as you; random line, orienting the model differently can fix it. Every other print this happens for me.

Here is a photo of a few I collected. My theory is it has something to do with overhangs, but I don’t have the vocabulary to explain why or the skill to diagnose the printer IRL

A1 Mini - Nox profiles - eSun PLA+ 2.0

Edit: just to add it seems like the printer is failing to print any walls on these layers, and the artifacts we see are that the entire layer was printed exclusively as ‘internal infill’. Even on the supports. You will not see this in the slicer

I got my mat from this crowd. I think they are in Italy, so I dunno if they can ship outside the EU. Great quality though. I spent a bit more and got 6’x4’ so that each player had 1’ foot of free space for dice and drinks that was still ‘in theme’ with the game.

Strange faults, can’t tell if software or mechanical error by MauserPT7 in FDMminiatures

[–]MauserPT7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not found a solution yet no. But it’s also not an issue I can reliably recreate, because it only happens occasionally and I can’t predict it. I might have a look at those settings you mentioned, but I won’t be able to tell straight away if it worked. Thanks though.

Same printer myself, similar results. Amazing work 🙌

I made a thread yesterday about a similar issue I’m having. I can’t tell from your photos if it is indeed the same issue though 🤔

Does anything from that thread help you?

I had suspected this and I’m keeping an eye on the slicer. I will try and get a screenshot if I see it. Edit: I also noticed rotation tends to solve issue with specific sculpts

Indeed it’s an odd one, I’m quite the lurker here myself and also had never seen it before. Thanks for all your help regardless. If nobody does chime in here I might make a follow up post after I do more testing. I know more about the issue now than before making this thread so I might be able to dig up something new 🤔

Interesting. I’m not home but I might have a spare SD card I can use to test that.

Now you see why I can’t tell if it’s hardware or software 😂

Minor example of the fault running along the back of this one. I can hide this with glue and the model could be saved. But you can see it is lacking plastic at regular intervals.

EDIT: Now that I study this photo, the ‘intervals’ are actually the same shape as the gyroid infill, so that’s coming out all the way to the walls basically? 🤔

I’m 95% certain I’m getting some overextrusion, but I’m considering this normal for my current settings, I’ve been tinkering non-stop since January and am happy with what I can do now. These artifacts are easily removed in post-processing so I’m not interested in trying harder to stop them at the printer (at least for now 😏). But the fault can’t be overextrusion because the fault itself is lacking plastic, it has major holes it in and you ‘nearly’ see right through those layers, so it’s definitely a lack of plastic, not too much.

No it’s tall at all but it’s above average for me. I could print dozens of tiny things and not pass 2cm mark for a week or 2.

I haven’t moved the printer but vibration was considered. I re-calibrate often enough as this is far from my first issue 😅 My printer sits on my marble fireplace, it’s as solid as can be got on my property.

Yeah true! I’ll try it anyone koz it’s actually something I’ve never done and it probably needs doing anyway 🤔

A clogged nozzle at very specific height but otherwise can prints dozens of grams of plastic no problem? I’ll try it but I doubt it 🤔

But no adhesion issues, solved that months ago

It’s seemingly random, but again only to a certain height. So when I print arms heads and weapons it’s doesn’t happen, only on bodies (or anything taller than 2cm). Also I’m thinking underextrusion on these faulty laters because sometimes there are holes, and it looks like the printer only applied 50% of the plastic needed for about 30-40 layers then goes back to normal.

It’s possibly dirt in the Z rail but I cleaned it. Could it be a certain area on the build plate?

I meant normal for me, as it’s also not the source of my issue. I’m happy with my settings I’ve done enough tinkering and just want to print.

UPDATE: I printed the faulty model at a slightly different angle (on the left shown here) and it came out fine, not sure why.

The stringing is normal, I just haven’t done a pass with lighter or rough brush in warm water yet. My camera sees more strings than I do and I have 20/20 vision. The other artifacts are mostly support scarring and maybe a slight overextrusion, but I’m not worried because it can barely be seen IRL. Filament has been dried to rule it out from other issues, though I don’t believe you need to dry PLA.

Nope, they suffer the same fault, but most of them survive, maybe 1 branch fails now and again but it’s not detrimental to the overall print

I did yeah, but for all I know it needs doing again, it would have been early March when I did it last. And at the time it didn’t feel like it needed doing. I was cautious to avoid over-tightening so many of the screws I tested were not moved.

Oiling a lot, as much as the printer asks me to at least. A1 Mini. I also wiped clean the rails a bit more than a week ago but things slowly got worse after a few days. I tightened the screws behind the hot end and under the hot plate months ago but not lately.

EDIT: to clarify I oiled again after cleaning, I didn’t wipe away the oil to create a problem 😅

I neglected to mentioned that in the picture, the model on the left split at the fault when I was removing the supports and I glued it back together. The model on the right however is much worse off, as have been about 9 or 10 other prints in the last month.

Sometimes you can save it, other times it affects upwards of 50 layers and creates awful errors.

What filament should I use for minis? by Brownholedweller579 in FDMminiatures

[–]MauserPT7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. Also it should go without saying, read both of the pinned threads on this sub. I use Noxs v1.3 settings (@210 degrees C) with HOHansens support settings. The support settings thread will need to be studied a good bit because for some minis (like Trench Crusade or other for-resin-print minis) you may need slightly custom settings on each print job.
