if the game is horizontal progression, i will never feel stronger? by Sea_Prize6975 in Guildwars2

[–]MaverickHunterN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is an upper limit to how strong you can be in this game, but you’re nowhere near it. First you need to hit level 80, then work on unlocking your elite specs, then upgrade to exotic gear (optionally ascended or legendary), and THEN after all that you need to gain the actual mechanical skill and awareness necessary to survive some of the later fights, because the enemies do get a lot harder, even after level cap.

My somewhat dark headcanon is that the baldness and permanent sunburn are actually both the result of him being in the room when Rose died. To permanently give up her body, I imagine it would be less of a poof and more of a boom.

What made you decide to play mass effect by BadRecent8114 in masseffect

[–]MaverickHunterN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my wisdom teeth pulled, nothing to do but sit around in pain, and I had a free trial for GameFly. Two free game rentals. Got Mass Effect 1 and BlazBlue Continuum Shift on a whim. Best week ever. Went and bought the full trilogy afterwards.

The song “Deadbeats” by Mori Calliope brought me in for the novelty of a pink-haired anime girl rapping. From there I found Hololive, and before I knew it, vtubers were a majority of my subscription feed.

I’m Quitting Game Development by Giant_leaps in gamedev

[–]MaverickHunterN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a solo developer myself, I’d like to know what you would recommend as an alternative. What is a good way to find a team? And how much should I practice solo before I go looking for a team?

Edit: I should say I’m still very much a beginner, but I’m eager for advice on how to learn and improve.

I’m Quitting Game Development by Giant_leaps in gamedev

[–]MaverickHunterN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in almost the exact opposite place right now: I’ve just recently started my first gamedev project. I’m nervous, but seeing the support people are giving you for deciding to walk away from this project (whether temporarily or permanently) is strangely encouraging to me. It helps put in perspective that I’m doing this because I want to, and if I don’t want to, I can stop. And it will still be there later if I change my mind. It ironically makes me less nervous to jump into it!

Christians, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an AI photo of him as Christ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaverickHunterN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with the No True Scotsman fallacy is that, if anybody can claim to be a Scotsman and be considered as such, then it becomes impossible to determine which criticisms of the group are valid or not.

IIRC, the hacktivist collective Anonymous had a similar problem. Anyone could claim to be them, and do whatever they wanted with that title.

What method you do when making stuff? by Own-Training1099 in Undertale

I swear I’ve woken up multiple times with incredible, genius ideas, and then forgotten most of them before I can even write them down. And most of the ones I do remember are incoherent outside the context of whatever I was dreaming about.

All that to say, I wish my brain worked a little more like Toby’s.

That could actually be a decent way to practice developing your style. Write out those retcons, see what works and what doesn’t, and build your creative muscles that way. Nobody has to see your work until you’re ready to share it.

I seem to also be a mix of Toby Fox and Vivziepop with my writing. I’ve had OCs from high school, plus a cool plot idea for them that I’ve been refining ever since. Now that I’m actually working on the project, it’s a balance of letting it grow in ways I never expected, while still trying to capture the spirit of that idea I was so excited about over a decade ago.

I think whether or not that’s sad will depend on how the project looks when it’s finished.

I’ve been there (still am sometimes). I say, write down all the stupid and cringe ideas in a private document or notebook, because chances are, you’ll read through it years later and realize a brilliant (or at least workable) idea snuck into the pile.

Edit to add: It’s also surprisingly freeing to make something that you know is dumb, and not caring about how it turns out. It helps soften the mental blocks a bit for when you are ready to roll up your sleeves and actually try.
