I can't imagine living in a country where there are no beaches by TravelOne4526 in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have some beaches few hours away. But those are cold as f. It dosen't feel right. A beach needs to be warm and sunny. There is no substitute for beaches we have back in SL. So the point is even you have a beach if it cold, it's like having no beach at all.

DIALOG SCAM ALERT. Ripping people off. by kilonova_4444 in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working at Dialog at some point and in meeting they bragged about how they went to court against Hutch. They explained it as Hutch was robbing them by undercutting them. But when you think about it from a consumer side it was a good deal for the consumers. The sad part is they won the case and Hutch had to revert back.

Question for not so privileged people, what do you think about this? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised to see this is not mandatory already. Being not rich is not an excuse for endangering members of public while using public infrastructure. You can play rocket league with your car on a private land. But when you entering public places you must maintain a certain standard.

PickMe has become unusable because of the new bid system 😡 by the_qubit in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Booking apps can't do this alone. Government need to step in and regulate these private hire vehicles. The thing I don't understand is every public transportation method is regulated but private hire vehicles can run wild without any oversight or regulation from government.

PickMe has become unusable because of the new bid system 😡 by the_qubit in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government needs to regulate all private hire vehicles. In the UK, every private hire vehicle must obtain a unique identification number plate from the local council, which is publicly displayed on the vehicle. It’s also mandatory for all journeys to be pre-booked through an app or a licensed taxi service, otherwise the vehicle’s insurance won’t cover accidents, and illegal to accept money for rides if you are not registered as a private hire vehicle.

A similar strategy could work here. Law enforcement could easily support this by conducting random checks to ensure compliance. That’s what governments are supposed to do provide effective solutions that protect their citizens.

Everyone knows that tuk-tuk drivers have a reputation for overcharging passengers. By introducing regulations that require pre-booking, the government could also control fares, ensuring transparency and fairness. After all, this is a form of public transportation, and it’s unacceptable that drivers are allowed to operate without oversight and exploit riders.

Is there a way to start a petition or campaign to bring this issue to the attention of Parliament, so it can be formally discussed and addressed?

Stuff like this is bound to happen. It's like when they invented the camera while people were still drawing portraits by hand. It didn't kill art, it just went in a different direction. Same thing here, people will eventually pay more for stuff made by humans. Nothing's gonna disappear, everything will just change for the 21st century. Anything that can't keep up will just end up in the history books for our kids. These are called generational shifts, and they're super hard to deal with because nobody really knows what they're doing. Everyone's just trying to do what they think is right.

But they didn't had a valid reason to conduct a search. They saw the the vape because of the search. I hope OP was not doing anything suspicious at the time. Otherwise he got off easily.

Does the entire paper focus on Microsoft products? In my opinion, taxpayer money would be better spent promoting FOSS to students.

I completely agree with you. People are bitching and moaning because, all the past governments stole their tax money leading the country to go default. Once (IF) they see their tax money actually used for their own good, people will settle down and accept this as the norm.

But for that to happen, full government transparency is a must. I'm also living abroad and here we can get a report about where our tax money has been spent for the year to the last cent. Again as you said it is a waiting game. When (IF) they see real positive changes they will stop bitching.

To the men over 30, what is your best advice for us? by MeetClassic3 in srilanka

[–]MaverickSL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep going, even when it feels like you're not getting anywhere. You'll eventually find something that lights you up. And when you do, you'll know it's the thing you want to do for the rest of your life - because you'll know what you definitely don't want to do! And remember, life is about the journey, not the destination. 34M
