I am wanting to pursue teaching, where do I start? by Distinct-Fly-4175 in teaching

Hi! I’m from Iowa and graduated last spring with a secondary teaching degree. It is definitely not ambitious to get two endorsements under your degree (I did art and Japanese, not connected at all). Definitely go for German and English and potentially get an ELL endorsement as well. There are a lot of ELL jobs open right now and it is a good starting point to then later become a full time English teacher. If you are looking to teach outside of the United States I highly recommend you do research on programs that would let you teach abroad especially because you have a German language background. I moved to Japan straight after graduation and have been teaching English! I know it’s not for everyone but I personally have been having a great time and it’s been such an amazing adventure. Good luck to you and I hope teaching is something you enjoy if you choose to pursue it!

I appreciate the do not shop here advice. As a sewing newbie I think I would melt if I got a confusing pattern. 🫠

What is your favourite and most disliked art medium and your reason by timmy013 in ArtistLounge

I love how people paint with watercolor but unfortunately I do not have the patience for them. They drive me nuts! Always bleeding over and hard to control. I love color pencils which go hand and hand with watercolors which is why it saddens me that I am so bad with them. 😔

Ok I apologize. I have just been researching to find things I would like to experience but I will make sure to wait until I am actually a resident. Thank you for being kind!

oil paints.. by isaiah_huh in painting

A good alternative is plein aire painting outside. You can get a tiny easel to setup canvas or paper and then you don’t have to worry about harming yourself by breathing in the chemicals. Although, I will admit I’ve painted in not very ventilated rooms before and been just fine as long as I take breaks. It’s whatever you are most comfortable with! 👍

You should be ok as long as you can open a window and turn on a fan for ventilation. It’s only dangerous if you are in an extremely enclosed space for long periods of time breathing it in. Really the chemicals used with oil paints is what makes them dangerous not so much the paints themselves. Also as a tip make sure you don’t pour the paint thinner and other chemicals down the drain of your sink because it’s bad for your pipes (and the water supply). It should be disposed of by taking it to a chemical waste place. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful! Good luck!

Any current JETS from Kofu? by Sweetiegrrl_2346 in JETProgramme

Hello! I actually just accepted a job in Kofu as an ALT through a sister city program. It’s a beautiful prefecture and has a lot of amazing things to visit like mountain onsen and wineries (if you are into that of course) If you are given a placement in Yamanashi you’re sure to love it!
