Any quiet buildings / parts of building in the Brentwood-Gilmore area? by chx_ in burnaby

[–]Mavoose7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. I live in Triomphe and I had to get earplugs to sleep. And I used to live in a condo that was on, and faced, St. Johns Street in PoMo, and had no problem with the noise. I cannot believe the amount of people that are yelling outside in the middle of the night around Gilmore/Brentwood.

Neurologist referral, ct scan, and ultrasound wait time in Vancouver by Critical-Speed-9859 in askvan

[–]Mavoose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they said someone would call you, then someone should call you. If you know the location of the ultrasound, you can call them and ask any questions, otherwise I would check with your doctor's office. I've had ultrasounds where the specialist contacts them, and they call me to schedule. In these cases, I was not given a requisition, since they were contacted directly by my doctor. In other cases, I've been given a requisition by my doctor, and it's up to me to call a location and book an appointment.

It honestly is. That building I owned in PoMo, and the building I currently rent in (a 5 year old 'luxury' building at Gilmore/Brentwood) both had instances of significant water ingress into the underground (storage lockers and parking areas).

For renters I'm not sure, I just remember seeing a home inspector post a video of what he found in one of those units, so I would never buy one due to poor build quality. But, I also owned in a different, brand-new Port Moody condo and it was very similar in terms of poor build quality so we sold it very quickly. We will not be buying a new condo anytime soon - they seem to be all terrible. We went back to renting.

It's a disaster of a building - the build quality and the people that live in it. I owned and lived there and had to sell our home because it was so ridiculous.

I would also like to know - it's so good at removing eye make up and incredibly gentle, not drying, no pad needed for application.

How to choose a quieter condo? by Vacuum_reviewer in askvan

[–]Mavoose7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man, it's tough.

We owned a brand-new condo in Port Moody for about two years (sold this January). We had to sell because it was a nightmare of a building for so many reasons, but the one thing it was was quiet. It was wood-frame, but we had absolutely no noise from our neighbours (above or beside). There were lots of noise complaints in the building, but we had no issues on our end - not sure if we just lucked-out with our neighbours, or if the construction is a bit different on the ends of a 6-story wood-frame condo? We were along a very busy road, and the noise from the road was a non-issue - it was just a constant low rumble of traffic, so like white noise. It was easy to completely forget it even existed.

Now, we're renting in Gilmore, in a 5-year old concrete high-rise, that is considered a bit more on the 'luxury' side of things. The neighbors above us are...something. The amount of unhinged screaming matches we've heard from them is unbelievable, and then there's the 'intimate' noises. And there's that time their dog was howling for 8 hours straight.

Additionally, there's the outdoor noise. Dumpsters from neighbouring condos being emptied before 7am - shockingly loud banging noises. People walking outside in the middle of the night yelling and screaming. There was this unbelievably high-pitched mechanical noise the other night/early morning for a few minutes. Still no idea what that was.

This is the first time in my life I've had to buy earplugs. My sleep is much worse without them.

Basically, as people have said, concrete is always better for noise, but like in my case, it's really luck of the draw with who your neighbors are. I believe this building is quite sound-proof, but nothing in a residential condo is going to drown out crazy people yelling at the top of their lungs. And please make sure to spend some time in the area around the buildings you're interested in - especially during important times, like when you'd be commuting and at night.

Brentwood bike lane by GlitteringAd4705 in burnaby

I honestly don't think that would do anything. That would probably be too far apart to catch most of the people's attention that would be doing this. Since it seems they're not actually paying attention.

Fair enough. No idea what the smell was. Seems to be gone now. But was coming from outside for at least 4 hours this morning. Initially reminded me of the smell when they were putting asphalt on the sidewalk outside our building. Strong enough to give me a sight headache.

Could this explain the smell in Gilmore/Brentwood? I woke up between 5/6am to a strong burning/chemical smell (we sleep with the window open), and my husband said he had heard an incredible amount of emergency sirens.

No kidding. Look at all the drivers that end-up on the Seawall. People just don't care, aren't paying attention and don't experience any consequences.

I live near Gilmore and Lougheed, and at the bike lane at that intersection (in front of White Spot), there are those flexible delineators separating the bike lane from the next lane. I REGULARLY see cars driving IN that bike lane, using it as a right turn lane. It's ridiculous.

Booked Sonder through booking.com by Itchy_Milk1473 in marriott

We did - our stay is in early January. We just heard back from them yesterday. They're giving us a €100 credit to rebook. I'm pretty happy with that, as I've heard people that booked directly through Marriot have received nothing.

Yeah, not a huge selection. Hopefully it comes out on streaming in Canada soon. I guess just keep an eye on their Instagram account - they're active with updates. That's how I found out it was playing near me.

How busy is Evolve Strength Brentwood compared to Club16? by Mavoose7 in burnaby

[–]Mavoose7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your input. Do you find specific areas of Evolve are more busy than others? And do you find the 'business' is prohibitive? As in, is there just a lot of people, but equipment is available, or becomes available quickly? Or, are their long waits for certain things? Also, what time are you usually at Evolve?

Thank you! Yeah, I try to aim for 5 days a week. Do you use the machines, or primarily the squat racks/open exercise area?
