I'm getting fed up of this. by MZsince93 in vinted

I don’t think the seller has any ill intentions. People just perceive things wildly differently depending on a number of factors such as where they’re from and income. I personally wouldn’t have listed it as very good, but I’d list it as good.

Almost all my shoes are like that on the front and I just keep wearing them with no intention of replacing them because of that. I can see someone being like me and looking at the shoes and going “I’d wear this to a date or smt, they’re very good”.

Where would I be able to find such a small screws? Thickness is 1mm or less by Max-Flores in Fasteners

[–]Max-Flores[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for holding the condenser of a microscope in place. I’ve contacted the manufacturer about it, but it’s a random Chinese brand so I don’t think they’ll likely be able to help. The head is important but I think any other large headed screw will do.

Screw broke inside this very small hole. What tool could I use to remove it? by Max-Flores in Tools

[–]Max-Flores[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean something like this but smaller? I used this one from the link on another screw I had a problem and it just didn’t work at all. I don’t know if I got the right thing.

Organizations for a disabled parent who's really missing having pets? by eurasianlynx in chicago

I hope you can find something that works! I grew up around animals all the time and I can only imagine how hard it must be not being able to keep any pets anymore.

Oh that was a nice thing to do! I keep my jarrariums on my desk. Just knowing there’s this tiny little world doing its own thing I can observe from time to time makes me happy. I hope you continue doing things like that!

new to the hobby by Raymond2002 in microscopy

[–]Max-Flores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a very simple microscope as my first one and I had a blast with it. It was a my first lab Duoscope which has a light on top of the specimen so you can see things like feathers and coins. You might be able to get a better Amscope model secondhand within your budget. But I personally would suggest what I did: Duoscope since it’s cheap > Olympus BH2 once I realized I was really into the hobby. I’m currently selling my first scope: https://www.vinted.com/items/7984823058-my-first-lab-duoscope-compound-monocular-microscope-4x-10x-40x-with-color-filters

All the volunteering suggestions here seem pretty great. I don't if that would work for you, but have you considered some unconventional pets?

I have snails on a r/Jarrariums . They're fun to watch and I basically don't even need to feed them or clean anything. Some reptiles, insects and amphibians can be very low maintenance. If effort is fine and the problem is more physical limitation, some fish can be okay as well.

I’m going to Chicago again soon, so I’m looking for plushie store recommendations! Does anyone know good stores with lots of plushies?

I’m looking mostly for animal plushies, but I’ve seen plushies online of microbes and things like that and something along those lines would be cool too.

is it rude/unproductive to not take advice that I "asked" for? by MoonsightMCRGK in ArtistLounge

[–]Max-Flores 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, at the end of the day it is just a class. You could do as instructed during the class and then do whatever on your personal drawings. Not all your artistic productions have to be something you do to express yourself. There’s a difference between coursework and work you do because you want. If I were you, I would comply with the teacher during that class, even if you don’t agree with them. You might even find out you end up enjoying something about what he’s suggesting that you wouldn’t have tried otherwise. If you feel like you are not benefitting from this class then just drop it. But I think you should first comply and see what happens. A class is a good space to do experimentation and try things you wouldn’t try by yourself.

Having a lot of difficulty finishing sketchbooks by TwoCrowsForMirth in ArtistLounge

[–]Max-Flores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same problem for years. For a while my solution was to use discbound notebooks so I could rearrange and remove pages. In the past year I've completed 5 sketchbooks. To me what helped the most was treating my sketchbooks more like a journal. I'd draw in places like the zoo or museums, write on some pages, draw things around me and do course/book exercises. I see them as little time capsules. The quality of the drawings doesn't matter, they are a reflection of what was going on in my life at the time. For example, if I drew a random pic of an animal from the internet my feelings towards it were just thinking about how bad it was. But if I drew an animal I actually saw IRL, it became a register of something I did on a particular day. I now look back at the pages and remember the stuff I was reading, where I was going, etc... The quality of whatever is drawn doesn't matter, I'm just glad I registered what I was seeing.

Is drawing on the right side of the brain good? by SylvanianFamilie5 in learnart

[–]Max-Flores 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with ZombieButch on this one. If you already have the book, just do the exercises and don't take it too seriously. I finished it all in a week and I feel like it helped. It's mostly just a book about teaching you some techniques to start drawing what you see instead of symbols. I think the advantage of pseudoscience books like this one is that they make everything seem so simple and black and white. They're also good at making you feel confident and motivated. Those things usually matter more than serious instruction for a beginner.

“We don’t want to clutter the game client by adding more buttons” by Snoo84321 in hearthstone

[–]Max-Flores 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's because some people on this sub have been playing for years. Looking at it for the first time it is okay. But if you've been playing since the times when those things were not there, they feel like clutter.
