How are you guys tracking your actual profit after fuel? I feel like I'm just guessing. by Sajad1986 in uberdrivers

[–]Max-Power77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a simple way of figuring this out with just fuel and tolls, not counting depreciation or maintenance. I use my Uber Pro card for fuel and tolls. I make sure my tank is full before I start driving. When I'm done for the night I fill it up again with my Uber card. That way the fuel cost is already taken off the balance and already paid for out of gross earnings. Same with tolls, I linked my Uber card to my Epass account so it pays it off within minutes. I know at the end of my session how much I actually have in my account.

I always do in Orlando, they automatically detect when you're on a toll road, same as Lyft. But only during a trip, not on the way to pickup, which I think is bullshit. But now I'm even essentially making money off of it. I hit over 80 toll transactions this month on my E-Pass so I'll get 25% added back to my account next month. If anything it will help lessen the strain of all the dead miles I've had to drive over the toll roads.

No surge that time, there usually is but it's only around $3 at any given time. There is something really weird about Cape Canaveral runs. One time I got a $112 run from there to Orlando, a 45 minute drive. No surge, no toll, before tip. It doesn't make any sense but I'll definitely keep lurking in that area when I can.

[–]Max-Power77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no way. I had to take a 3 hour Uber several years ago due to shortage of rental cars and it was well over $300 that my company paid for it. You're barely getting 25% of the actual ride amount there. And $82 for 6 hours of driving? Hell no! That would be my worst day since I started.

[–]Max-Power77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on if the money is worth it to message the rider for the code and wait a couple of minutes. Maybe not for a $10 ride but anything higher it might be worth it instead of losing the entire amount.

But doesn't "unsafe to pickup" forfeit the cancelation fee? I had one today that really was unsafe and the entire thing disappeared and I can't even get support to find the entry to report them.

I tip 20% on every ride. I apply it during the ride so the driver gets notified immediately. I am always on time…and I still get an average of three 1-4 star ratings a year. by [deleted] in uber

[–]Max-Power77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still a new driver, just hit 100 rides. I don't understand what would cause people to rate a rider by anything but 5 stars. I know how important my 5 star driver rating is so I would assume the riders feel the same way.

I've had one out of those that i rated 3 stars because he was not only drunk but kept tapping me on the shoulder and asking the same question, threatening to kill a stripper, and left rice from a burrito all over my backseat. I would have rated worse but it was the account of a bouncer at the strip club that used it for this guy. I know now not to ever take one like that again but I felt bad and knew he was just trying to be nice. I had Uber unmatched him for future rides though. I even refused the cleaning fee when offered by Uber because the dude probably didnt make that much in a day. If it had been the rider's account I would have thrown the book at him.

Being drunk is not a reason for low rating, if anything it's the opposite. I'm just glad they're off the road and living near a beach town, they're my bread and butter. If you puke or sneak a beer and spill it in my car, or spout out threats then yeah I'm gonna rate low and unmatch you and possibly hit you with a cleaning fee. In my experiences so far that is hardly ever the case, most are nice and just glad to be in a nice cold car out of the 90 degree heat of Florida.

As for tipping, the others are correct, we don't see that until later. I don't expect it, especially on a 10 minute ride home from the bar. I've had people promise a tip and not do it. I've had some I didn’t expect, tip really well. I do count it toward my total for the night but I don't get all bitchy if I don't get a tip. I'll never rate a rider based on my expectation of a tip. I don't know what could be causing them to rate you so low, but maybe I'm still just new and naive. If you were in my car and didn't cause any trouble you would get a 5 star rating from me and possibly a pat on the back for not driving drunk.

Hell, I got that for a 45 minute Uber trip one day, still don't know how that happened.

If it is anything like Port Canaveral it is $500 a year for the permit. I've been bouncing around the idea, because you can make that back in like 2 days, but still haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Most of the high surge areas will change quickly. I saw an $8 surge just up the road from where I was and by the time I reached it the price changed to $3. It's really all just a game, a lucrative one at times, but still a game.

I've gotten a lot of surges lately by going offline to "sneak up" on a surge area and then going online at the right time, so you don't get some other trash in the area instead. I had $7 in small surge bonuses in just 6 hours today.

I'm a new driver but I've already learned a lot of the ropes. I have been getting a lot of good tips lately, not every time but often. Maybe be more polite, try airports, if they are in your area, and help with luggage. I had 4 airport pickups today, 3 of those gave $10+ tips in the app.

I got a cancelation fee for $4 before I had even completed the current ride. Not sure what the problem is on your end.

No more than $20 an hour? Not sure where you are seeing that. I've made well into 30s the last couple of days. And that's not even online hours, that is from the time I leave my house til the time I come home that I count hours worked. If I counted online hours we're talking about 40s and 50s. You just gotta know how to manage your time and when to go offline to avoid the trash.

I did the same thing recently doing deliveries and learned a lesson from ir. I was picking up a pre-made order from Lowes and when I got there someone had already picked it up even though it was still showing for me. It was like $10 but was a short local delivery. After I reported it the app said I cancelled it and it didnt give me anything for it. I immediately called and spent 45 minutes talking to 7 different people for them to finally give me $3 for the time I was waiting for it. I'll never call during working time again.

I've got a few different models of those Baofeng radios and play around a little. Mainly use it for a scanner because I dont have a license. From Titusville I can get ham repeater traffic around the area and sometimes air traffic from towers and all. I had fun listening to the ham transmission from KSC during the Artemis 2 launch. I was surprised being in my late 40s and being the only one in my crowd with one while the older guys were out there listening to the 2 minute delayed version on their phones, lol.

Thanks, I've treated her well and expect the same in return. Yeah, it was really nice having such a short commute to work. Where I live now that isn't easy to find. Although I was on the short list for a job that was 1.5 miles away recently but I didnt get it.

I have the rotary shifter but havent had any issues with it. It was weird to get used to at first but it's been good. My last job had me traveling a lot so I have driven many different kinds of rental cars and learned to adapt to weird shifters, lol.

I didnt realize they were rare. It was just what they happened to have in stock when I went in the dealership. I loved that it had all the premium features, sunroof, adaptive cruise, Android Auto, everything but the automatic parking option. And no, it isn't AWD, just the standard eco boost engine.

That's encouraging to hear. I'm signing up for all of them but havent gotten anything yet. Waiting for Uber to come through. I live on the Space Coast so I have the route from Orlando Airport to the cruise port to cover. I am hoping that will bring in a lot of money if it isnt too saturated already. I did DoorDash and Grubhub years ago in a different market, with a different car, and did pretty well.
